Can you identify this violent Rollerball- or hockey-like game?

Question

Platform: Windows 95, came on a CD
Genre: Sports, Action
Year: 1996
Perspective: Third-person 3D
Art: Very polygonal, arena was mostly grey, other colors (players etc.) were mostly bright blue, red, and yellow
Protagonist: You controlled players on the team
Goal: Score, incapacitate other players
Enemies: Other players
Weapons/Equipment: Your stick (similar to hockey), powerups that grant you murder-aiding abilities
Multiplayer: Could play two player splitscreen, one controlling each team
Memorable Moments: It reminds me strongly of Rollerball (the game in the movie of the same name, not the NES pinball game). It was in an arena shaped like a large skate bowl. The parts most like Rollerball were that it was futuristic and violent; I believe the sticks were pointed, you either had rollerblades or some sort of futuristic energy skates. There were obstacles in the arena that you had to avoid and you could jump over them.

Asked by Matthew Read

Answer

While writing this question I googled "futuristic violent hockey game" and HyperBlade was the third result. It's great how writing these things down triggers better memories and wording for searches; thanks Gaming!

box art screenshot

According to the Wikipedia article the egg-shaped arena was called a "drome" and the sticks were actually blades called "jaks", with the ball ("rok") carried in a glove in the other hand. Obstacles include turnstiles and laser gates that presumably cut you in half. Powerups are weapons like mines and the ability to charge up the rok into a "killball" to throw at and electrocute other players.

futuristic “racing” in city

Question

Sorry in advance for the lack of details on this one. I'm looking for a game set up in a futuristic city. I think you drive a futuristic police car (or it can be a bad guy's car escaping the police) that can fly between skyscrapers of a huge city (a little like the movie The 5th Element) There are elements of racing, but it's not a racing game in itself. I can only remember the general atmosphere and lighting is filled with blue neons

I can also remember that I got the demo from a CD that had the Descent3 demo on it as well (from a magazine), so I would assume both games came out on the same year... (or at least not later than June 1999)

The game is played on a PC.

Old russian tetris/blockbreaker mashup windowsgame

Question

At least ten years ago i played a game with (or against) my friend, and we would love to play it again for fun, but have no clue what name to google for...

The top player would play tetris and some blocks had special abilities like bomb or baloon, and at the same time the second player would play blockbreaker and also try remove the blocks. We both used same keyboard at same time!

This was a windows game or DOS (most likely freeware or shareware) and had very funny russian person pronounce when one player won:

arrrrkalicks is wiiiner

(winner pronounced more like wiener sausage than winner). Most likely spelled totally different, over the years we kept saying that phrase to each other to laugh at it, this is why we want to replay the game. I know chances are not good, but if anyone know about this game it would be great!

What is the name this 90s strategy game where you could take over vehicles?

Question

I just can't remember the name of this title and it's driving me crazy. It's a futuristic PC strategy game where humans take on aliens on a alien planet with the difference that you play pretty much all of it from a first-person perspective because as the commander of the army you yourself run around the battlefield.

I remember you could enter a command building and view the battle from up high or enter a vehicle you have created and join the battle yourself. If your vehicle was destroyed you could eject and had to escape because on foot your were cannon fodder. While on foot you could also snipe the pilots of enemy vehicles and steal their ride.

The whole game was about capturing positions that gave you resources and allowed you to build up your forces. Memorable units were the alien tanks which could transform with a very nice quicksilver effect.

Old LEGO online Flash game involving some kind of network

Question

I'm trying to remember the name of an old Flash game I used to play on the LEGO website. It was laid out on a grid, and you could place and move some kind of "programs." I also seem to remember that there was "spy" somewhere in the name.

I believe you are referring to Spybot: The Nightfall Incident.

Who can identify an old arcade side-scroller with jump jets where you select planets to play on?

Question

I'm trying to identify an old arcade game, it was a side-scrolling shooter, you controlled a guy in a orange/red armored suit and your 'jump' was actually jump-jets, which allowed you to double jump.

The most distinguishing feature of the game was that at that start of it you had to select a planet, on which you would then land. There were several available choices, a jungle planet and a volcanic planet, amongst others. I seem to recall that one planet had a similar appearance to a bee-hive.

EDIT : I played it around the early nineties, although that might not be an accurate indication of age, since those coin-ops tended to hang around a bit.

Searching for a old game in which you control the player using a voodoo doll

Question

I played a game a long time ago, in which you start out in a flat and can't leave trough the door because there is a robot which won't let you out. You control the character (which is a male boy) actions with a 'voodoo doll' (ingame). I remember having to go inside a factory and collect items and such. I played it several years ago (3/4?), after I bought on a 'Jumble Sale'. I think the game was meant for win 95 or 98. I remember the voodoo doll being in the right bottom corner as a overlay. I know the game was visible from the side.. but I am not sure about what angle and such.

You started out in a apartment, then you went outside, trough the window, then you get too a mall and I remember a level with a factory.

I really hope anyone can give me a hint, sorry for being a bit vague about some of the things, I really tried my best. :)

~2000year 3D tank game where you can stack tank turrets on top of each other

Question

Do you know that feeling, when you really need to find something you have seen a long time ago? And no, I'm talking not about socks.

I remember myself playing this a bit childish, but in some ways awesome game, where you control a tank, and can pick up and stack turrets (and maybe something else) from enemy tanks you kill. Maybe they also had different platforms (and if it's one with wheels then technically it's not a tank, but hey). It was around 2000 (or maybe even earlier) and the game had 3D graphics.

In summary:

  • PC game
  • 3D graphics (although with very low polygon count).
  • Top-down view, almost everything on one screen (so, not huge maps).
  • A bit childish: colorful, the sounds are funny as well, especially engines.
  • Stacked turrets on top of each other on top of tank-like things, you control one of them, and can pick up more turrets from killed enemies.
  • World with water and other obstacles.
  • If you have a lot of stacked turrets on your tank, it slows down.

Please help me find this game, so I know that i'm not crazy (at least, not in a can't-remember-a-name-of-an-awesome-game-of-my-youth way).

Asked by kolobos

Answer

The game you are thinking of is Tanktics. I agree, it was an awesome game of my youth! My personal favorite part was the sheep-powered tank part factory.

Looking for old Windows maze-like 3D game

Question

I'm trying to find a 3D game that one could play on a Windows PC many years ago. It was like a 3D maze (but not this maze), if I remember correctly it was an official Microsoft game and it was preinstalled (probably). The reason why I think it was a preinstalled game is because I could select in from the Games section in the Start Menu.

The point of the game was not to solve the maze. I think you were controlling a pod or vehicle of some kind and there were other pods (enemy players?). You were inside some huge building. I also remember bouncing and colliding with other AI players/enemies. The setting of the game was futuristic. For some reason the world reminded me of a big pinball machine.

I'm almost certain it was released before Windows XP, I think it was a Windows 98 game. It wasn't a DOS game.

I know it's a bad description, but I can't remember more than that I'm afraid, it was ages ago. Any help will be much appreciated.

Platformer/action game about a guy in a yellow shirt and a red hat

Question

I used to play it 9 years ago on Windows 98. It came with a lot of other games on a CD.

The game was a single file. It was a kind of an action/beat'em up game. You started in a forest, playing a yellow-shirted guy that had a red hat. He had to kill aliens and you gained exp by doing it. This could be used to acquire new weapons from a cowboy that was always in-between levels. I only remember 50 exp gave you a lightsaber and 600 gave you bombs. There were either 4 or Five levels:

  • The Woods\Jungle which the boss was a Robot
  • The Shopping Mall which the boss was M. Bison from Street Fighter
  • The Street\The Alley (May be 2 separated levels or not, don't think there was a boss)
  • The Lab (The Final level, with a Giant Alien as the boss)

. It was a small game. It could be MS-DOS or Delphi-based game, I don't remember. It was probably produced by a small or indie company.Any further questions, just ask!

EDIT:Additional info:

Interface Detail

  • The icon was the head of the character below.
  • The Main screen displayed an art with the title of the game, and the options Play,Quit (there could also be "help",if not it showed up when F1 was hit)
  • The help screen was blue with a white font.
  • Life bar was yellow when full, and red when empty.
  • Grpahics, Scenary and levels looks a bit like "Flashback".

Gameplay Detail

enter image description here This was the main hero. I did this in paint, but it's what he looks like.

  • The aliens were light-skinned, and had blades in the place of hands, and big oval-shaped black eyes. Also, a oval-shaped head
  • I'm almost shure you started with a pistol.
  • You had to click the weapon name in the ballon to get it with the cowboy.
  • The control system was easy-to-handle.

Stuff That Might have been in the game This are the itens i'm not really shure but have might been there.

  • I think the title screen and the game had a soundtrack.

  • My friend who played with me said that the title might have been a name+adventure

  • I vaguely remember the "adventure" part in the title, but it was probably there.

Well, that's pretty much it.It's the fourth bounty on this. This time i hope i achieve my goal.

NOTE I'll delete my comments after 2 days or so to keep mods work easy. Thanks for understanding.

Trying to remember old 2d mining game

Question

Started out with the character at the top at a saloon / shop. Could buy various things like dynamite and pick axes. There was a mine shaft on the right side of the screen, to descend into the mine. Had various hardnesses for the ground being mined. Also could see traces of nearby material. The mined material was different too (silver, gold, diamond, etc. etc.) I remember if you tried to go off screen the game would give the message "here be dragons". The mine would cave in every so often and do damage / kill you. That is about all I can remember. Anyone have any ideas?

Looking for top-down floating fortress battle game (PC, around 1999)

Question

Gameplay

The game I'm looking for allows the player to control a large floating rock with all kinds of weapons built upon it and battle against another such rock which is AI-controlled. After destroying part of said other rock, the debris would float to your own rock, attracted by some kind of gravity-like force, and allow you to expand your rock and put even more weapons on it. After destroying an enemy, the game would switch to some kind of building mode, in which your rock was divided in hexagons. Two things you could build that I remember are a catapult and a thruster:

schematic drawing of a catapult and a thruster on a hexagon grid

After you finished building, you could fight against another (stronger) enemy.

Graphics and controls

The view was top-down, the graphics were probably (pseudo-)3D, and the rock had a black color, perhaps with a bit of red. You could shoot all your weapons at once with a click on the left mouse button, aim was controlled by the mouse pointer, and I think you moved the floating rock around with the keyboard.

Other memories

I remember playing this game in my youth on our Windows 95/98 PC, probably somewhere between 1998 and 2000. The game name might start with an "s" or "p", but I'm not sure. My brother said it came on a cd together with a flight combat simulation game.

I hope the details provided aren't too vague, but I fear this is all the information I can summon from my memory. Anyway, I'd be delighted if you could help me in the right direction, playing games from my childhood gives me a lot of joy :). I've already browsed Mobygames, though not exhaustively, and Classic Gaming Network, and I've searched for it on Google until my eyes hurt.

This sounds like Stratosphere: Conquest of the Skies. It allowed you to switch between top down view and a birds eye view.

Which game did I see on tv?

Question

I caught a glimspe of a tv program here the other day, showing an interview with a computer programmer. He was making various kinds of "silly" computer games, and he won some art awards for it. He said he didn't care much about his games being defined as art, he claimed to create them for his own sake, cause he wanted to.

One of the games was a crude 2D "game" where a man keeps walking from left to right towards a finish line, showing the distance 0 on the left and 100 (i think) on the right. When he gets half way there, it says "half way there", and then it kind of zooms in on the remaing distance, so that it once again coveres the entire length of the screen. The distance indicators are updated, showing 50 on the left and 100 on the right, and the man starts walking once more, from left to right on this new and shorter distance. However, when he reaches half way, it happens again, showing 75 to 100, and again with 87,5 to 100, over and over. He always gets closer, but thus never actually reaching the finish line?

Does anyone know which "game" I am referring to?

Asked by palooka

Answer

These are the games of Pippin Bar.

He made a few of these games, and this perticular one is about the Ancien Greek Punishments (The race is is the story of Zeno, the boulder is about Sisyphus).

What was the name of a Commodore64 circus game?

Question

All,

I am trying to recall the name of a game I used to play on the c64. It was a circus game that on each level you carried out a different task (juggling etc..). On one of the levels you dived of a high board into a tub of water however the higher you went the smaller the container of water (I think on the last level you dived into a cup of water!)

As I recall it was called something like " revenge" which never made much sense to me!

Can anyone help??

Asked by Dean

Answer

It doesn't have any "revenge" in the title, but Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O'Fun seems to 100% fit the bill. From the description on Wikipedia:

[...] six events to raise money for the doomed circus: diving, juggling, trapeze, knife throwing, tightrope and the human cannonball

and

Diving

The player is challenged to jump off four diving boards of increasing height into containers of water of decreasing size, beginning with a huge wooden container, and ending in a glass of water.

Sega Genesis Adventure Futuristic Game

Question

I am looking for this Sega Genesis game that is:

  • Isometric View
  • Futuristic style
  • Robots and cyborgs in it
  • Adventure game that you can level up
  • You can use guns and melee weapons

You start as some detective that has forgotten everything. You can search som drawers in the room you are and I remember something about going to a bar where you talk to several npcs there about important quests.

The graphics are not very amazing for late sega genesis games but it is a good game.

Asked by CYREX

Answer

What you're actually describing is the beginning of the SNES version of a game called Shadowrun.

There is a Genesis version as well, but the gameplay and story are entirely different, even though they are set in the same/similar universes.

I believe the SNES version had more of a noir feel, while the Genesis version was far more cyperpunk and some characters were much more obviously cyborg-like; Though both games featured characters with cybernetic implants. (The player character could use cybernetics as well). You could increase your skills in both games, as they were both RPGs. I don't believe the SNES version had melee fighting. I am a lot less familiar with the Genesis version; it may have had melee.

This image is from the SNES version of the game. You start off in the morgue, as a shadowrunner that was presumed dead and left in one of the drawers. You begin play by climbing out. You also visit a bar early on in which you find important information for the story.

Here is a screenshot from the Genesis version, for reference:

Help me identify this early 90's PC RPG game

Question

I'm trying to work out the name of game from the early 90's. I played it for a very short time on my friends computer back in 1992 to 1994. It was what looked like a top down RPG. The introduction of the game showed a desert, with a small town that grew over time. It was like a time lapse of still images. It started with one guy near a campfire, then more people appeared and this small town appeared.

I only played for a few minutes, but when you start the actual game you are in this town and you can walk around chat with other townfolk (hence why I thought it was an RPG). It seemed like it was meant to be modern day or post-apocalyptic. There were modern weapons (as opposed to a fantasy theme).

If anyone can help me work out what this game is I'd really appreciate it.

Asked by Rowan Parker

Answer

Could it have been Bad Blood? It was a post-apocalyptic RPG with a top-down view.

The intro cutscene matches the description in the OP. A new town grows in the desert in the aftermath of a nuclear blast. Gameplay then starts in a town.

Help me identify this Nes battle game

I remember playing this on my nes.It must be a classic, since all the games i owned turned out to be.

  • It was produced by nintendo
  • You controlled a kind of tower\radar, in a battle agains other war units.

  • The game was set in a outdoor ambient.
  • I remember some green space around the battle area.

Old space game where you play as a shuttle that can jump

Question

It was a game I played between 7 and 10 years ago. You play only a space shuttle, that "drives" through the levels.

There are different gravitations, you can move left, right and jump.

There are special colour-marked fields. blue or purple or something like this for filling up the tank/fuel/gas (I dont remember how it was called), other fields (maybe red?) for slowing you down, others for higher jump etc..

The view is to the horizon, not from left to right.

Identify a game where you feed Kangaroos popcorn

Question

When I was a child, my sister and I would play this kangaroo game for Windows 95 (I think...). You'd have to go around searching for these kangaroos (hide and go seek really).

When you found them they could get bored and run away after a while, so you gave them popcorn, to which they reply

"Yum yum yum yum munch munch"

I really want to find a Youtube video of this, but I can't for the love of me remember what the name of the game was. Does anyone have any idea?

It seems someone else asked this question at another site, but it doesn't look like anyone found the name of it. The game is probably suppose to be edutainment, released in the mid to late 90s.
