How many collector cards are required to beat each level of Rage Frenzy?

Question

Assuming that every collector card is collected during the game, when is the earliest point in the game where you can have a better-than-even chance of beating your opponent in each round of Rage Frenzy?

All of the Collector Cards, in the order that they appear in Rage

Asked by voidstar69

Answer

The answer is not how many cards but rather which cards. You can pretty much flatten both opponets with an 11 card deck, however some of the cards are available really late in the game, I used the deck suggested here:

  1. Giant Mutant
  2. Large Mutant
  3. Slime Mutant
  4. Kraken
  5. Drop Ship
  6. Enforcer
  7. Shield Guard
  8. Shrouded Minigun
  9. Gearhead Jet
  10. Captain Marshall
  11. Valder

Comparing weapons in Rage

Question

Is there a way to compare weapon stats and see how they stack up against each other in terms of damage, range, etc?

Especially when it comes to weapons from the same family like the double-barreled shotgun and the combat shotgun. Aside from the combat shotgun having a bigger magazine, is there any difference between them in terms of damage?

Answer

There are no player viewable weapon stats in RAGE. :( You will have to go by the description on the weapon and the ammo.

In general: Feltrite good vs. armor, explosives good vs. most everything.

Everything else basically comes down to "What is your preferred play style?", As most weapons have several ammo types you can use guns in various fashions to suit any situation and style.

What are Feltrite Crystals traded for in Rage?

Question

In RAGE, Fellix Hagar tells me that Feltrite Crystals are very rare and only to trade them for something I really want. They can be sold to a merchant for $25 each. Can they be traded for anything at all in the game, or should I just sell them immediately?

Answer

You can trade 20 of them to Jacob, he's in the bar in wellspring, for a defib upgrade (which means you can die one more time before a game over)

There is virtually unlimited feltrite in the game so selling a few doesnt matter. driving around the wasteland will occasionally activate missions automatically. One of the missions requires you to collect 7 falling feltrites, afterwhich you keep all 7. I just recently came across another one where it was "collect as many as you can in the time given" i got a whopping 15.

As far as any other use outside that 1 upgrade, I dont know of any.

Is this PC too slow to play Rage?

Question

I'm using

Dual-Core E5300 @ 2.60GHz

HD4850 (512M)

4GB RAM

and... Rage is a bit slow. It's not even 30FPS I feel.

But I had graphic problems like others. texture problem, config settings.. blah blah.. but it's working anyway.

Is this too slow PC to play it? or is my game setting wrong?

Answer

Here are the minimum & recommended requirements to run Rage on PC:

Minimum:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD CPU
  • 2 GB RAM
  • GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200 or equivalent GPU
  • Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7 OS
  • 25 GB Hard Drive space

Recommended:

  • Intel Core 2 Quad or Equivalent AMD CPU
  • 4 GB RAM
  • GeForce 9800 GTX, Radeon HD 5550 or better GPU
  • Windows XP (64-bit) SP2 fully patched, Windows Vista (64-bit), Windows 7 (64-bit) OS
  • 25 GB Hard Drive space

Your computer should be able to handle Rage just fine, although you may not be able to max out all the graphics settings while maintaining good performance. If you're having issues, try turning the video settings down.

What are some tips to get the “blow up 3 enemies” achievements?

Question

I've just played through rage, and while I am not crazy enough to go after some of the achievements, I was actually aiming for Three Birds, One Bomb Car and Hat Trick.

However, try as I might I couldn't set up a situation that would allow me to get one of these. Several factors contributed to my failure:

  • It is very rare to encounter large groups of clustered enemies that don't try to immediately charge you (mutants) or go hide behind a wall (just about every other enemy).
  • All enemies are clairvoyant, and know exactly what RC bomb cars and mind control bolts are, and so will try to shoot your RC cars/controlled suicide bombers.
  • RC car bombs are amazingly annoying to drive, as they tend not to be able to go over most obstacles, even if they are incredibly low.

Any tips on how to set up a situation where these achievements can be acquired with relative ease would be appreciated.

Answer

I got both of these during story missions.
The car one I got in the first mission where you have the cars (shrouded bunker), there a part where you enter a porch overlooking a room, with a short spiral staircase on the right, enemies tend to bottleneck just after the stairs, you can hide behind the porch's rail and send cars down the stairs, with some luck you'd get to the enemies before they blow up the cars and blow up 3-5 of them. I managed to do this on Nightmare after a few tries.
I got the arrow one during the prison break mission just after releasing the prisoner, there was a a part when he's busy hacking and you have to fend off enemies, a few guards grouped near the left side of this area and I shot one with an arrow and it got the job done. A better opportunity was in Dead City Reverse, there was a part where you watch a few soldiers fight off mutants, while they were busy with the mutants, I used my arrows and blew them all up.
If you're past these missions, I recommend doing this either on Bash TV, sewer missions (DLC) or later in the game in the distillery missions, there will be parts where you're on a ledge and multiple mutants will climb over, I think this will be a good place to try the trophies although I didn't get them there myself.

How can I identify ranged collector cards?

Question

I've built a nice deck of cards to play "Rage Frenzy" with, but there is something I found very disturbing.

The distinction between melee and ranged cards is rather important in the context of the mini-game, and I would have expected there to be a way to tell the two apart. I have yet to find a discriminating visual queue to signify that a card is ranged, so I am relying on experience (once I try a card, it's easy to figure out whether it is ranged or not).

Am I missing something, or is there no way to tell if a card is ranged by its appearance?

Answer

When you look at the arrows in the bottom left hand corner there is a distinct difference between melee attacks (solid arrow) and ranged attack (dotted arrow).

What are the differences between difficulty levels in Rage?

Question

Rage has four difficulty levels:

  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard
  • Nightmare

What are the differences between them? Do they only affect enemy strength or do they also come into play in racing targets, number of enemies, etc.?

Answer

The Rage wikia describes:

The enemies appear to have roughly the same amount of health on each level, but hit a lot harder and come in greater numbers as you increase the difficulty. Notable exceptions include the Large Mutants and Krakens, which seem to have lots more health, and the Authority Elite, which are basically tanks on Nightmare, requiring 3 or 4 Dynamite Bolt headshots.

Cars in the wasteland will also fight a lot more aggressively and use shields more frequently as you increase the difficulty.

Loot appears unaffected, apart from a Rocket Launcher in Kvasir's Sewer on Hard and Nightmare difficulty.

Is there any way to lock on to watchtowers?

Question

While driving across the wasteland, it is not uncommon to run across a bandit watchtower:

Watchtower

These are not terribly dangerous while driving (their machine gun doesn't do an awful lot of damage, and they don't chase you, obviously) and there are certainly quite a few ways to get rid of them (ramming them, or stepping out of your vehicle and using a sniper rifle on the operator).

The thing is, I've never managed to get a lock on them to properly take them down with vehicle mounted weapons. Firing blindly at them will work, but some are placed in such a way as to make that nearly impossible. Is there some way to do this that I am missing, or is it impossible to get a lock on them?

Answer

No, the lock on in the vehicles are only for vehicle to vehicle combat. You will have to ram them, hit the with the rocket launcher or snipe the gunner.

What does the exclamation mark mean when approaching a door?

Question

Most doors I come across in the Rage universe do not cause a hand icon to appear, indicating that they can be opened, nor are they locked with a grindable lock. Most actually display a white warning sign as seen here:

enter image description here

And zooming in a bit:

enter image description here

I have to admit I haven't been keeping track of doors that become open while you play, so I wanted to know what it is this icon indicates, exactly.

Does it mean "this door won't open at the moment", or perhaps "this is indeed a door, but it will never open"? Perhaps it means either one depending on the door?

Answer

Sometimes they become openable doors through the story (e.g. entrance/exit in Dead City), sometimes you get a keycard or key to open them (e.g. Gearhead Vault in Subway), sometimes they can be opened by shooting gas tanks behind them (e.g. Wasted Garage) or similar.

However, mostly they're just part of the wall that looks like a door - there seems to be more 'doors' like that than any other.

What crafted items have the best sustainable profit margins in Rage?

Question

I was wondering, does anyone know which recipes have the highest sustainable profit margins in Rage? Specifically, recipes with ingredients I can repeatedly purchase from merchants.

Answer

After playing through, the best answer I can come up with is that there really isn't a recipe good for your personal economy. Instead, craft lots of wingsticks and pop rockets and go do a few rounds of Mutant Bash TV. You can average something like $600-$700 per episode.

Is there any way to help with the sniper rifle kickback?

Question

In RAGE, is there an add-on of sorts for the sniper rifle to help with the crazy kickback when the gun is shot while fully zoomed? If so, can it be built or purchased somewhere? I noticed other add-ons for the shotgun, and the sniper rifle does get a loading mod.

I was able to luck my way through the first Job Board sniper mission in Wellspring, but am having trouble getting through the next one with the caravan.

Answer

I've finished the game (not at the 100% achievement level) and the only Sniper Rifle modification I've seen is the semi-auto.

The RAGE Wikia says that the only modification is the semi-auto upgrade.

How can I use the wingstick more effectively?

Question

I have to admit that the wingstick is my favorite quick-use item in Rage so far, the main reason being it has saved me from a savage beating many times while reloading my main weapon.

While I usually use wingsticks in situations much too tense to make any astute observations, I've noticed that their effectiveness seems to vary. At times, they will simply lodge into their intended target, killing it, but at other times they ricochet around the room, damaging multiple foes, potentially (I don't think I've actually managed to pull this off). I'm pretty sure I even managed to catch one that I threw in a very boomerang like fashion.

While I haven't been able to figure it out by myself yet, the varying effects seem linked to a multitude of factors, such as the first thing the wingstick hits (enemy/wall), the throwing angle, the type of enemy and so on.

If anyone could shed some light on this, I would be grateful.

Answer

Wingsticks and Advanced Wingsticks are a semi-guided projectile weapon. They feature a lock on, but it seems to be intentionally imperfect (so you don't just play the whole game with them).

I have found that throwing them while the enemy is 20+ feet away usually results in getting the wingstick back and decapitation. When an enemy is too close it will almost certainly get embedded in them or break, lessening your chance of recovering them. If they hit an obstacle on the way to an enemy (wall, rock, whatever) they stand a good chance of breaking first.

With advanced wingsticks, they can hit several enemies before coming back to you. A good throw will result in 2 kills, a great throw 3 kills. If you see any enemies grouped, an advanced wingstick throw can make short work of them if they don't have helmets on. Advanced wingsticks also seem to be able to bounce off walls & such a few times and still have some killing power.

Wingsticks are also probably better than the crossbow for quiet kills, given that there is no zoom on the crossbow.

I hope you found something useful in the above ramblings.

Do plants grow back?

Question

As one of the loading-screen tips state, searching the wasteland can yield some rare and useful plants, such as the Night Blossom or the Comet Bloom.

Unlike other crafting components, I have never seen any of these plants for sale at any of the merchants, making the items you can produce with them quite invaluable.

Is that really the case, or do plants actually grow back where you pick them after a period of time? Or perhaps there is a merchant selling plants that I simply haven't gotten to yet?

Answer

Night Blossoms seem to be the only plant that grows back. I've been to Crazy Joe's (I keep wanting to say Crazy Dave) swamp a few times and the Night Blossoms have reset. Comet Bloom and Desert Spores must be found, and I have seen no evidence that they regrow.

I don't know if the Night Blossom's regrowth is due to a timer (real world or in game) or tied to story completion. However, it doesn't really matter as Night Blossoms are the only plant you can purchase (in Subway Town) in the game.

Five Fingers mini-game

Question

There is a mini-game in the Wellspring pub called Five Fingers. I really don't understand how it works. I tried to press space at the right time, but I always hurt my hand.

Maybe there is something I'm missing. Could you explain to me how it works, and how to eventually succeed?

screenshot

Answer

Five Finger Filet is based on the European rules of the Knife Game by following certain patterns (in Rounds 1-4) of stabbing the knife in between fingers, for example, 1-2-1-3-1-4-1-5-1-6, etc. (1 being the spot by your thumb, and 6 the spot past your pinky). The primary goal is to not stab your hand while following the pattern.

Round 1 starts off pretty easy, and it progresses to a much harder pattern and faster pace in Round 4. Rounds 1-4 are all based off of patterns though which can be memorized with some practice. My suggestion would be to watch the dot, and never the knife, and work on memorizing the patterns. The best guide I have seen is on Xbox360Achievements, and it works for all versions.

The problem round, is round 5. Round 5 is completely random, and on top of that is very fast. The linked guide has a tip for a possible way to beat it, but I haven't been that lucky.

Who, or what, is the Authority?

Question

I completed Rage, and the ending is .. meh (just my opinion). The game talked about the Authority, but I never felt like they really explained who or what they are when finishing the story up. Is there some background story on them that I missed in the game or elsewhere that gives some further explanation and story about the Authority?

Answer

The story is pretty simple so the game didn't had much to explain to begin with, wiki could have something more than you figured out but it is still very shallow.

(check the wiki link to see more links :p)

"Led by an individual known only as The Visionary, the Authority's main purpose is to restore order to the world by any means necessary, including killing unmutated humans. The Authority seems to have an agenda against Ark survivors, ruthlessly seeking them out wherever they are found and taking them back to Capital Prime for unknown reasons. However, it is speculated (through the novel and a trailer) that the reason for this is the fact that all Ark survivors have had Nanotrites implanted inside them before going into deep cryo hibernation.

It is discovered that they have their origins within the United States military. On the night that Apophis hit, the last of the Arks, a "Super Ark" capable of holding hundreds of people, was taken over by a select team of soldiers led by General Martin Cross and Colonel James Casey. With its original residents left for dead, Cross altered its programming so that it would emerge in 2105, and so be the first of the Arks to emerge in the wasteland by many years. This set up Cross and his men so that they might shape the new world in his vision."

Where can I find more Desert Spores?

Question

I received the schematic for Apophis Fusion, which allows you increase your max health permanently by 11 points. You can craft this multiple times, but it appears one of the ingredients isn't real common: Desert Spore. I found 2 randomly in the Wasteland, and I believe I received 2 with the schematic, but I'm sure there may be more. Does anyone know the full list of places to find more Desert Spore?

Answer

You should be able to find 14 of them (source) its for xbox but that shouldn't make any difference.

  • 2x from getting the recipe
  • 2x by Joe's swamp
  • 1x jump to mailbox (Mailbox challenge)
  • 1x to the left of Bash TV
  • 1x by Dr. Kvesir's mailbox
  • 1x by the refuse "treasure" pile of the Outrigger Sewers (entrance located to the left of the parking poles leading to the Radio Tower)
  • 1x by the Wellspring sewer entrance
  • 1x by the northern tower that you have to resupply
  • 1x by the Abandoned Distillery entrance (left side in the sunlight while heading towards the entrance)
  • 1x to the left of Power Plant
  • 1x at the sixth mailbox from the 3rd challenge
  • 1x under the bridge leading to Subway Town, just past the sandbags that stop you from driving down there.

Is there a way to take out unsuspecting enemies silently?

Question

Rage has plenty of opportunities to attack enemies that are unaware of your presence. Consider the following situation:

Sneaky time

It would be very easy for me to dispose of the gentleman sweeping the floor in one of several ways. However, I am unaware of a way to go about it without making the other enemies in the room aware of my presence. A shotgun blast to the back of the head would definitely do the trick, but would obviously be too noisy. Trying to be more subtle and relying on my fists doesn't cut it either, as I would need to get too close to my target and he would end up noticing me.

Is there some sort of trick to it that I am not thinking about, or perhaps a suitable weapon that you get later in the game?

Answer

Fists, as you already said, are not that useful for silent attacks.

You get the wingstick early in the game, a boomerang-like quick use silent item.

When you complete a quest that has you go to wellspring and then back to the first town you will get the Striker crossbow, which is a silent primary weapon (Dan Hagar even mentions this when he gives it to you).

How many races are there available in Wellspring?

Question

I completed all three events Slim has to offer and was wondering if there are any other races I can do to earn upgrades for my car.

I also did the sponsor race to get an upgraded buggy, but are there any other races in Wellspring?

enter image description here

Answer

Not including the races from Slim, You can race Starky, who is apparently the top racer in town. He can be found standing around near Slim. Racing him and winning will give you an upgrade for your car.

Starky became available to me to race after completing all the Slim races. I completed them all in first place, but do not know if this is a prerequisite to getting access to the Starky race. I didn't actually check if he was available at some point sooner.

Updated*

Including all the races in the three events, there are no more races in Wellspring available. In total, 16 races are available in Wellspring. You can do 11 more races and if you win all of them, you will earn the Rage Cup Achievement/Trophy.

I'm thinking of leaving Wellspring, can and will I be able to return at some point?

Question

During the campaign of Rage you eventually are given the opportunity to leave Wellspring and the Wasteland to a different location (hopefully this isn't a spoiler). The character you are talking to mentions to finish anything up before leaving. Do they mean I will have absolutely no chance to come back to Wellspring at a later point?

I'd like to continue on with the story, but at the same time there are some achievements that I'd like to finish up. As far as I know the only ability to complete those achievements is based on specific characters that reside only in Wellpsring or the surrounding area.

Answer

From an xbox forum:

Yes, just talk to the guy by the "blimp" in the underground portion of Subway Town and you can go back as many times as you would like.

Is there a way to see what cards have been collected without actually playing a game of Rage Frenzy?

Question

I'm playing through a level, and I have a couple different saves. I want to be sure that I picked up a card on my way through, but since the way back is blocked I cannot go back and physically check. Is there a way to see what cards are in my deck? I'd rather not replay the level just to be sure.

Answer

It seems that you can only look at your deck when you are at a card table. Talk to the dealer to start a game, then look at your cards on the deck building screen. Then quit, and no money should have changed hands.
