How exactly does the +1 airjump mechanic work?

Question

When defeating an enemy in mid-air, your character is able to use his/her jump again once more while in the air. I understand that from the tutorial.

But now, let's take for example the blue character, he can jump once and then again while in mid-air. If he jumps, then defeats two enemies, how many more times will he be able to use his jump ability before he lands? Just once? Or twice or three times?

Also, if our blue character jumps, defeats an enemy and then uses his doublejump (in mid-air) and then defeats another enemy(still in mid-air), how many more 'jumps' does he have left?

And how does this work with the purple character, who can jump and then do two more jumps while in air?

Sorry for the maybe a little confusing wording of the question...

Answer

Defeating an enemy mid-jump replenishes all of your character's air-jumps. For the blue, red, and green characters, this means one air-jump. For the purple character, it's two.

You can never have more than the character's specific air-jump count stored up, so it doesn't matter how many enemies you defeat in a single jump. You'll still end up with that character's default amount, now replenished (This means you can defeat one enemy to get two air-jumps with the purple character).

How do I Open the Red-Locked Doors?

Question

If you climb to the very top of Dustforce's hub world, you find a row of locked doors, and a scientist with the following message:

I wouldn't go in there if I were you.

I wouldn't go in there if I were you.

How do I open these doors? I don't want to know what's behind them, so please don't post it in your answer.

Answer

You need to get a SS on a gold door level to get a red key.

An SS on a silver door gets you a gold key.

Spoiler withheld by request, but iirc there are 16 red door locks here ;)

What are the differences between the characters?

Question

When you begin a level, you have the option to select one of four characters. What are the differences between these four characters? They don't appear to be purely cosmetic, as the third one (short girl with dusters) has a triple jump, which none of the others have.

Answer

According to Gamespot's Forums:

Light Attack

  • Blue: Standard length and width (height).
  • Red: About the same length, but not quite as wide as Blue's. Appears to be closer to the ground. Attack speed is either slightly slower or the same. Hard to tell.
  • Purple: Much shorter in both width and length. If you measure the length in the width of the character sprites, it is about one sprite shorter than Blue's. Attack speed is much quicker.
  • Green: Longer, with equal width. Again, measuring in sprites, the length is about one sprite longer than Blue's. Attack speed noticeably slower.

Heavy Attack

  • Blue: Standard length and width (height).
  • Red: Equal length but slightly wider. Possible that it is also slightly quicker. Again, hard to tell.
  • Purple: Again, much shorter in length, only about half or three-fifths as long, but equally as wide. Noticeably quicker attack speed.
  • Green: Equal length but slightly wider. Equal attack speed.

Dash

  • Blue: Standard.
  • Red: Slightly shorter distance covered. After five consecutive dashes, Red would be standing directly behind Blue.
  • Purple: Noticeably shorter than Blue. After Purple made five dashes, it would require an entire sixth dash to end up in the same spot as Blue, so if my math is right, one dash is about one-fifth shorter than Blue's.
  • Green: Same as Red.

Jumping

  • Blue: Standard
  • Red: Equal height as Blue
  • Purple: Much shorter, but has a triple jump instead of double, which equals the height of Blue.
  • Green: Higher the Blue. A double jump puts him at about one sprite-height higher than Blue's max height.

As far as I could tell, all of their wall climbing abilities are equal. There are also other things that I still need to test, like acceleration and momentum, that appear to differ from one another. If I have the time, I might post a video of all the comparisons.
