Do I get my gold back when I make a bid and it fails?

Question

I went and made several bids of increasing value on a single item (8000, 9000, and 10000) before noticing that instead of taking the difference out of my gold balance (8000 the first time and 1000 each time after) it took the whole sum of the bid from my account. I have since been outbid, and have no desire to continue bidding. Will I receive my gold back once the auction is complete?

Answer

Yes - you'll see the amount you bid present on the "Completed" tab if you are outbid, and will have the option to "Return to Stash".

Access auction house without leaving the world?

Question

Especially with the huge load the Diablo III servers have currently during late afternoon/evening one usually does not want to disconnect as getting back in the game can take quite some time.

However, to auction items, I apparently have to leave the game. Is there a way to access the auction house without leaving the current game?

Asked by ThiefMaster

Answer

Unfortunately the Auction Houses are only accessible from the menus, not anywhere in the game via your character.

The Auction House is a new trading system introduced in Diablo III which shares many features with similar systems found in other games, such as World of Warcraft. Accessed through Battle.net and not from in-game, the auction house allows all players within a region (US, EU etc.) to buy and sell items easily and conveniently between each other. Almost all items other than quest items can be sold between players, and everything is run by the players: Blizzard will not sell any items.

Is it possible to search for existings auctions of a rare item?

Question

In the Auction House I did not find a way to search for a rare item by name - neither on the public auction search nor on the create auction page.

Is such a search somehow possible? It would be pretty useful to determine a good price for an item. Or should I just salvage/vendor the leveling yellows unless they are useful for myself or a char I might start playing soon?

Answer

This isn't possible, and possibly useless, because the item's names are generic (they always consist of the general item name and additional, randomized, terms that depend on the attributes, such as "Sword of Vampirism" or "Sword of the Leech" for a weapon with life-steal) and, more importantly, weapons with different values can have the same names.

Because of this, there is a specific option included to search for stats that you want to have on your item.

If you want an estimate off the amount of gold you can charge, you should better look for items with the same attributes as yours.
