How do you fully explore level 1 of the VVVVVV demo?

Question

Level map

The only connection to the lower areas seems to be through Exhaust Chute, but spikes make it impossible to reach the lower half of the Sensible Room and the Tomb of Mad Carew. A Wrinkle in Time is actually a dead end.

Is this all I can explore in the demo?

Asked by badp

Answer

After spoiling myself and watching a few videos on Youtube I can say that yes, that's all that can be explored in the demo version.

What the demo fails to explain is that actually you start a "level" by reaching its starting sector in free roam through the game's world. That is, the full version does not yank you to a level selection screen after rescuing the first crew member. The opening in the pink area allows for further exploration.

How do I change the field of view in the Crysis 2 Demo?

Question

I want to change Field of view in Crysis 2 demo to make it wider. Is there a console like in Counter-Strike where I can type a command, or is there another way to do it?

Asked by DIMEDROLL

Answer

Create a shortcut for Crysis2Demo.exe; in its properties write your commands:

E:\Games\Crysis2Demo\bin32\Crysis2Demo.exe +cl_fov=85+r_DrawNearFoV=85 +pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=85 +g_skipIntro=1 +r_Glow=0

What are the limitations in the Dungeon Defenders Demo?

Question

I just played the first level and the first challenge in the dungeon defenders Demo. After some tries I wanted to purchase a pet but ended up only having 5000 Mana. I wonder if this is a cap in the demo?

Are there other limitations besides having only one map to play?

Answer

I'm upgrading now, since it's a lot of fun. The limits (as seen by me) are:

  1. Max 5000 mana.
  2. Max Level 10 characters.
  3. You can only play the Apprentice and the Squire.
  4. You only get 2 dungeons (the one you start in, and a challenge map).
  5. Only 10 pages in your item box (this could be for the retail game too, not sure).
  6. You cannot do the Ladder online play, only the normal one.

That's all I noticed as limitations.

What are all of the unlockables in the Reckoning demo?

Question

The Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo unlocks some items for use in the retail version. What are all the unlocks? Does finishing any of the quest chains in the village unlock anything?

I've already got the items one gets for signing into the EA servers (including the Reckoning armor for Mass Effect 3) as well as the Infernal Helm for meeting the Fateweaver and I got the Reckoning weapon for Mass Effect 3 when the demo timer ran out.

Are there any more unlockables and how do I get them?

Answer

From Destructoid:

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo item unlocks for Mass Effect 3:

  • Reckoner Knight Armor: This armor will maximize damage done in close-quarters combat while a beefed–up power cell feeds energy into weapon systems to increase projectile velocity.
  • The Chakram Launcher: This weapon uses a fabricator to manufacture lightweight, explosive ammunition discs. This weapon is earned after completing the Reckoning demo and watching the trailer at the end.

Mass Effect 3 demo item unlocks for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning:

  • N7 Armor: Players can unlock special armor inspired by Commander Shepard’s iconic N7 battle armor including Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Chausses and Greaves.
  • Onmiblade Daggers: A holographic blade stemming from Commander Shepard’s Omni-Tool, the Omni-blade allows players to stab enemies in close combat. Once players install and play the Mass Effect 3 demo, they will unlock the daggers.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo item unlocks for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning:

  • Twist of Fate Card: This card boosts the player’s ice resistance and is immediately unlocked when he or she activates the Reckoning demo using his or her Origin account.
  • Twinned Souls Chakram: A unique weapon that damages enemies while boosting player health and mana in Reckoning.
  • The Infernal Helm: Unlocked after completing the Reckoning Tutorial Mode, this protective helmet increases players’ fire damage throughout Amalur.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo restrictions

Question

I know that the demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has a 45 minute time limit, but how does it enforce that limit?

Is it 45 minutes of play time from starting up the game or creating a character, then thats it?

Or is it 45 minutes playing a character, then if you want to play some more, you need to start again with a new character, and can do so as many times as you like?

Also, does anyone know if they will let you use the save games from the demo in the full version? (assuming you can actually save the game, I'm still downloading it)

Answer

The 45 minute limit is from after your encounter with the Fateweaver after you leave the tower (the starting dungeon). From there it is 45 minutes of gameplay (menus and dialog stop the clock), and you would seem to be limited to the area around the village (forgot name) for the duration of the demo. Areas not available will have the shimmering barrier there.

Is there a full version of Super Smash Flash 2?

Question

Hey, there! I have played Super Smash Flash 2 Demo for a while now. I enjoy the game very much, but you can only Brawl there. Like I said, I enjoy the game, but I want do something different using my favorite character (Ichigo :P), other than beating up other opponents. The first version of Super Smash Flash has alot more characters than the second part, and even has a story mode.

Since the title says "Demo", I'm guessing there is a full version to that game. So I was wondering if any of you guys know about the release date of the full version or where to find it. Please tell say any information you may have. :)

Answer

It appears that the "demo" is really just a beta version of the game, and that he full game has yet to be released. Check the official game developer's webpage, and you can see the he is releasing "demo" updates, which indicated the demo is really just a game in development. The wiki also seems to confirm this.

“Failed to initialize the GameStartup Interface” when trying to run Crysis 2 demo

Question

I've downloaded the Crysis 2 demo through Stream, but when I try to run it I immediately get the error message

Failed to initialize the GameStartup Interface!

and nothing happens after clicking the "OK" button. What causes this problem, and how can I fix it?

System specifications:

  • Windows 7 64bit.
  • Nvidia Geforce 250 GTS, with latest drivers.
  • All other PC stats also matching or exceeding minimum requirements as specified in the Steam Store page.

Answer

This kind of error can sometimes be solved when you verify the game fragmentation, through the game options.

Game fragmentation usually happens when you download too many games at once through Steam, or when a game is being downloaded by too many people at once.

It can also be caused by running a process which does a lot of disk access.

Why is the downloadable Might & Magic: Heroes VI demo asking for a disc?

Question

I just downloaded the Might & Magic: Heroes VI demo from Steam. On trying to start it, I'm receiving an error that suggests I'm missing a DVD:

There is no disk in the drive. [Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]

All of the buttons make the dialog disappear for a fraction of a second, and then it appears again.

Has anyone else had this problem or managed to work around it?

Answer

Oops, I just figured it out by going nuts on the dialog box.

Just hit Cancel 20 or 30 times - eventually it'll go away and the demo will start. Seems like a bad sign, but we'll see.

Where can I download old Wii demos?

Question

Based on this answer.

I do know that old Wii demos are removed from Wii shop, is there any place I can download them?

P.S. I have "original" Wii, so pirated versions won't work here and I'm not interested in pirated versions of the demos.

Answer

Wii demos can only be downloaded from the Wii Shop channel. If a demo is no longer in the Wii shop, there's no way you can download it.

Is there a demo of Starcraft 2?

Question

I won't be able to buy SC2 for a few months still (tear), so I was hoping in the meantime I could try out a demo (timed or otherwise is fine). However, google tells me nothing about the existence or non-existence of said software entity.

So is there a demo or not? :(

Answer

Blizzard has finally released the Starcraft 2 Demo.

Updated for new version of demo:

From Joystiq:

The StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty demo has been replaced by StarCraft 2: Starter Edition. The new version allows players to play four levels of the campaign, the first two challenges, access the terran race in custom games and single-player vs. AI, and play four of the custom maps.

All campaign progress and achievements are saved to the player's Battle.net account, so they can pick up from right where they left off, if they decide to buy the full game. Already have a Battle.net account? You'll find the StarCraft 2: Starter Edition in Account Management under "Your Game Accounts."

Here is the link to the free demo.

Help in identifying a multiplayer strategy/card game.

Question

The game had a demo on a PCGamer disc back in the late 90's, between 98-2000. I remember you were able to move your unit(s)? on an Isometric board, and actions were done through using cards in your hand. If I remember right it was heavily based around multiplayer, and I believe you could even buy more cards online. I enjoyed it, and doubt its still active but it bothers me that I cant think of the name to even look at what happened to it.

Edit More info about the game that i remember it was isometric and played on Terrain, I remember you had a human character.. or multiple possibly. It was based around fantasy.

Answer

Isometric, fantasy based, with online purchasing -- sounds like Sanctum (not the recent co-op tower defense game):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctum_(game)

According to that wiki page (and my recollection) the servers for it were eventually taken over by a consortium of players themselves ("Nioga") after the company running it could no longer support them. In 2010 they went down for good and IIRC have not resurfaced.

I believe some of the developers went on to make Star Chamber and eventually become SOE Denver.
