Is there any way to shout more often?

Question

I'm a Dohvakiin. I can shout people to death, and it's awesome.

I lament, however, that my voice can only shout every so often, usually requiring a cooldown of 30 seconds (or more!) before I can shout again.

Is there any way to reduce the cooldown of the Thu'um? I discovered that activating a shrine of Talos offers a Blessing of Talos effect that reduces the time between shouts by 0%. I assume this is a bug (supposed to be 10%, perhaps?), but it makes me hopeful that other such shout reduction effects exist elsewhere in the game.

Is there anything that help me shout more often?

Answer

An Amulet of Talos will reduce the time between shouts by 20%. I believe this stacks with the +20% to shout recovery from shrines to Talos, which will knock a whopping 40% off your recovery time.

Sadly, you cannot disenchant the amulet and learn to make your own +Shout Recovery items.

Also the dragon mask Morokei add another 20% getting you to 60%

When can I cast Adept spells? Where can I buy them?

Question

After completing the Eye of Magnus quest, Faralda was selling me adept spells. By mistake I reloaded one old save and Faralda now doesn't sell me Adept Destruction spells anymore. I tried reload many times and didn't work.

I'm level 12. What should I do?

Answer

I had the same issue, clear your system cache and it will be there.

What is the most powerful beam spell combo?

Question

Was wondering what the most powerful beam spell combo is in Magicka. I know of a few strong beam combos but it's hard to tell which is the most powerful in terms of raw damage.

My personal favourite is Arcane+Steam+Steam+Lightning+Lightning. It seems to be pretty effective.

Has anyone done some experimenting or some damage calculations? It would be cool to know which is the most powerful. Thoughts?

Answer

It's quite a straightforward and well known weakness of Magicka's design - the steam/lightning/arcane beam.

I'm also reasonably sure that since lightning gains the great bonus from wet targets, having it on three instances instead of two would give you a slightly more effective beam. Id est, Steam+Lightning+Lightning+Lightning+Arcane or "QFAAAS".

Details on Clairvoyance?

Question

What are the specifics on the Clairvoyance spell? I know it shows a path, but like what does dual-casting it do? How do you use it to raise your Illusion skill?

Answer

I don't think it serves any purpose at all other than giving you a direction towards your next marker, as far as leveling, I would assume you would get a few minor points for using the spell, but not necessarily for the spell affecting anything and giving you a damage bonus

Are the Master destruction spells useful?

Question

I was wondering if the Master destruction spells are useful or just to show them off? I'm asking because it takes ages to cast and you can't hold them neither precisely point (Lighting Storm)...

Have you ever used them with a purpose?

Answer

I used them for the lols during fort attacks in the Stormcloak/Imperial war quests, since there are a lot of targets around you. You can also sneak up to groups of enemies while stealthy/Invisible and let off one of them to start the fight.

Other than that, I didn't use them much, for the reasons you mentioned. Of all the perks they put in the game, I don't know why there isn't a perk to make winding up Master spells faster. You're really vulnerable while preparing and holding them, since you can't move.

What might I do with the familiar conjured by Conjure Familiar?

Question

What is the Conjure Familiar spell for?

Sure the familiar looks neato, but may I treat it as I would a familiar in another game? So far, it doesn't speak to me, it doesn't supply me with wishes, and it doesn't lead me on a quest.

Have I exhausted what I can do with a familiar after I've successfully conjured it, or is there more to it than meets the eye?

Answer

A familiar is just a minion. It's only purpose is to attack enemies, and will vanish after 60 seconds. It is possible to use a familiar to level up your combat skills by attacking it, but other than that, it just attacks enemies.

What's the difference between Prime Magic and Arcane Exaltation?

Question

I'm looking at both of these prime spells, and they seem to do almost the same thing. The first claims to award 3 magic power to the hero, while the second claims to award 2 magic power permanently.

What does it mean by that? Is Prime Magic not permanent, thus having to be cast (or something)?

Answer

IIRC,

Prime Magic only awards the bonus to spells in the Prime spell tree (e.g. Implosion)

Arcane Exaltation works for all trees. So if you're a primary Dark Magic user, you can pick up Arcane Exaltation to increase the bonus for your Dark Magic spells.
