What are the differences between Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64 DS for the Nintendo DS? Are they just the same game or are there any significant differences?
The DS version's main feature is a few extra playable characters with special abilities. The Wikipedia article covers most of the functional differences.
However, I would like to bring attention to the main difference in my head: the DS controls are horrible. Since the DS doesn't have an analog stick, you are forced to use either the DPad or the stylus. Both controls are clunkier and more annoying than their 64 counterparts.
I loved the 64 version and got every star in it, and really wanted to play it again with new characters. Unfortunately, the DS controls made me unable to stand playing the DS version for more than a few levels in. It would be nice if they would rereleased the rerelease on the Wii instead so I have some chance of ever completing it.

My wife and I share a single Nintendo DS. Many DS games permit only a single slot; one example is Etrian Odyssey.
I would like to be able to back up my Level 18 Etrian Odyssey party so that my wife can try the game without my losing the many hours I have put in. I have heard there is a device called "R4" or "R4DS" which might make this possible, but I can't figure out which device to buy or how to set it up.
How can I back up a Nintendo DS saved game onto an external flash card, then later restore?
A few devices exist specifically for the purpose of dumping these things, such as the NDS Backup Adapter Plus - I don't have any experience with that particular device, but as I understand it, you just put the game into the adapter, and connect the adapter to your PC. This is likely to be the easiest way to do this, but looking around, it seems like it might also be a little more expensive.
Alternatively, if you have a DS Phat or DS Lite with Wifi (DSi or 3DS will not work), you can use a flash cart to do this in a completely legitimate way: You can use a homebrew program to dump and restore saves onto official cartridges. I've personally had good success with Savsender.
You use this program to send the save data to your computer; if everything goes well, your wife can safely delete your saved game, and start a new one. When you want to get back to your own file, you dump your wife's save to a different file (assuming she wants to keep playing her file, otherwise you can skip this step), and restore your own. For a more detailed guide, follow this tutorial.
It's not completely fool-proof: it may occasionally misdetect the save size, in which case you only get a part of your save. Various online databases have the save size available, in case you want to verify the results. In the case of Etrian Odyssey, it uses 64KB for save data (65536 bytes).
There are a few games out there which are known to not work with this program: Pokémon HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black and White are wired differently, and can't be dumped using this process. Additionally, it may not support save sizes greater than 512KB (The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, WarioWare: DIY and Art Academy are the only non-Japanese titles I'm aware of; Japan had a few more games like this) - I haven't actually tried dumping any of those myself, so I don't know if they're detected correctly. If you want to dump any of those, you are probably best off with the adapter.

The new Rayman game for the consoles reminded me how much I used to love that game. I don't like the new one though, and I can't find anywhere what the old DS ones are called. By "old ones" I mean the ones that came out back before the DS light was out. I also don't remember if there was more than one, so please tell me all the ones you know of.

I have finished most of Dino Domain, but I haven't found the key to the locked door in Dino Domain.
What track is the key hidden on? Where on the track do I need to look?

I was playing Diddy Kong Racing DS, and noticed these coins:
I happened to pick one up, but I have no idea what they are for, much less how to use it.
What can I do with this coin? It seems like I can only have one at a time.
The coins with an up arrow on them are upgrade coins.
These coins are activated by pressing 'X' and will upgrade any weapon or item you are currently equipped with. Weapon and items are found through the numerous balloons scattered throughout the course.
Upgrades are as follows:
Red Balloons: Missile Shield
Blue Balloons: Autopilot
Green Balloons: Rare Coins
Yellow Balloons: Invisibility
Rainbow Balloons: Radio Missle

I have managed to find a couple of golden wizard's hats in various levels of LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7. I never manage to find all the ones in a level, though, which made me wonder if they were actually important, and if I should be spending more time looking for them. What do they do?
I believe they unlock still frames of art, which you can access in a particular location in the mission select/hub area.

When playing Harry Potter Years 5-7, I noticed there are things only Wizards with Dark Magic can interact with. I figure these are things I will have to go back and do later, as right now I don't have anyone in my party that can use Dark Magic.
Which characters in the game use Dark Magic? Who is the first one I can unlock, so that I can go back and get whatever it is from these areas?

In Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands on the DS, the penultimate level includes a set of 5 Moon Phase rooms. Is there a specific order in which these rooms have to be completed to allow the player to continue?
There is indeed a 'right' order for these rooms. If you enter a room in the right order, you'll just get teleported back to the corridor. If you enter a room in the wrong order, you have to get through the room and start the sequence again.

My son's DS won't power up when the button is pushed. It worked fine up until now, but it is about 5 years old. We have tried charging it (with several chargers in case that is the issue) and there is no lights/no response. Can it be fixed?
Since a power failure can be caused for many reasons, it tough to say for sure. There are two fuses in these guys, and it's possible that one of them has been blown. There are instructions to remove and short-cut the fuse with a piece of wire here. Alternatively, you can purchase replacement fuses online.
If it's the system's power supply or other failed component, you're better off buying a new one. While these aren't very repairable, their low-cost makes them relatively replaceable.

I've read that the DS version of Final Fantasy IV is significantly more difficult than the newer PSP version. Why is this so? (I haven't played either game, and I have no experience with any previous version of this game.)
Final Fantasy 4 on the SNES originally came in two flavors - the one for Japan, and the one for the US. The Japanese version had several things about it that were more difficult, including the fact that you couldn't buy "Ether" potions in shops that could restore your MP. I believe the fights were also quite a bit harder.
The US version (released as Final Fantasy 2 in the US) was made "easier" to appeal to the perceived not-as-hardcore US gamer. They also made a few changes to it, notably removing any references to religion ("Holy" is just called "White") and removing any direct references to death.
Whenever SquareEnix ports FF4, it's kind of random which version they opt to port, and they tend to make tweaks and other changes to the game as they go. The DS version is closer to the original Japanese difficulty, while the PSP appears to take a page from the US SNES version.
The DS version was also a complete 3D remake of the game, with all-new 3D models and environments. It was a complete engine overhaul for the DS's limited 3D capabilities. I believe they also changed the script significantly, since the original English SNES version is widely acknowledged as having been very poorly translated.
The PSP version appears to retain the 16-bit visuals of the original game, which probably means it's closer to an emulated version of an updated SNES ROM than the DS version. This would also jive with a previous re-release of FF4, which was part of a compilation with Chrono Trigger called "Final Fantasy Chronicles" on the original Playstation.
The PSP version also contains "Final Fantasy 4: The After Years" which was an episodic "sequel" released on the Wii in the US in 2009.

Do you need a certain amount of Stars or is there another way?
Once you have 70 stars, the staircase is no longer endless and you reach the door at the top.
Or the long jump trick to reach the top of the staircase without 70 stars is:
Do a long jump away from the stairs, then tilt the control stick up. Mario should still be doing long jumps and facing you, but at the same time going up the stairs instead of down. Press the jump button as fast as you can, and Mario will eventually make it up the stairs.
P.S.-- in the DS version the only way to do it, if even possible is to use a mod like action replay to have all the stars {in which case you will already have 70} so there is absolutely no way to do it becasue DS makes it impossible

I was playing Mario Kart DS in a bus terminal one day since I was on a long layover, and as I was loading a new map, it blanked out on me for several minutes. Confused, I turned my DS off then on, and upon turning it back on, the DS gives me the message "No DS card found".
It's not the DS, as my copy of SoulSilver works just fine. I tried a few remedies, but to no avail. I've attempted blowing it out, swabbing it... One other remedy I found suggested that the pins might not be touching, and to put a small piece of business card behind the DS card so it fits more snugly. That didn't work.
I don't understand why the card would suddenly brick like this. I wasn't moving around, the DS was being held in the air, nothing hit it or knocked out of place, it simply broke out of random.
Has anybody come across this problem? Is there a fix or something else I can try?
If it's a new cartridge, it might be under warranty from Nintendo.

Can the 3DS receive and play games from the regular DS (DS, DSi, DS Lite, DSi XL)? For example, Tetris from Tetris DS or Mario vs Luigi from New Super Mario Bros. Or will I lose the ability to play these games with my DS-friends once I upgrade to a 3DS?
You will still be able to use the Download Play on the 3DS - I've done it, and it works quite well. :)

I'm looking for a replacement battery for my DS Lite. I recently moved from the United States to Germany; back in the US, the Nintendo Store offers a replacement DS Lite battery. However, that would be subject to insane shipping charges as well as customs fees and delays.
However, I cannot find any equivalent store on the Nintendo Germany website, nor the Nintendo UK site, which would at least keep shipping within the EEC (and it's in a language I know). They do offer repair services which can replace the battery, but these are much more expensive and won't accept my US-origin DS Lite anyway.
The local GameStop and Saturn do not have any DS Lite batteries. Amazon.de and Amazon.co.uk both have plenty of third-party batteries, most of which have bad reviews, with claims that the batteries do not fit, are labelled incorrectly, and just plain don't last long. I'd rather not take my chances with tiny containers of potential energy, so these don't seem like a good choice.
Is there anywhere within Germany (or barring that, within the EEC) where I can order a good DS Lite battery?
According to this page you can order one from Nintendo for 11 EUR + 3,50 EUR shipping. They don't have an online shop though, you'll have to contact them directly (see contact information, Konsumentenberatung: mail: info@nintendo.de) and hope they'll understand english.

I started playing London Life today, and while my job as a Trash Picker is pretty profitable, I would love to be able to do something different. I know that in the Station, a man mentioned that if I was a Bus Driver of a certain level I could apply to be a Ticket Taker, so I know there are other jobs out there. How do I go about getting a better job?
You just have to keep picking up the trash (make sure you pick up every piece, the game will let you know when you have finished), and eventually you will move up in rank enough to be offered a job as a Taxi Driver - from there, you can get other jobs as you rank up in previous ones (with the exception of some you need to discover, like the job in the hotel delivering luggage, and juggling for the girl in the park.)

Is it possible to play games like Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure with friends on the Nintendo DS system? Are you able to use the wireless feature to play together with multiple Nintendo DS systems or do you have to use a link cable like on the GameBoy Advance?
No it is not posible to use the Multiplayer Mode in GBA games on the DS, you can only play GBA games in Single Player Mode on the DS, as the GBA games are not able to use the DS wireless features and the DS does not have a connector for a link cable.

Unfortunately yes. When you can choose whether to fight Magus or not, that decides whether he can join you or not.

The most powerful weapon in the original Chrono Trigger was the Rainbow Sword, which I've already gotten. However, I've seen suggestions around the net that the DS version has something even better in the Lost Sanctum. I've completed all of the LS quests (annoying as hell though they are), and got the Icewyrm... but the Icewyrm is still less powerful than the Rainbow. Is there something else that I'm missing?
Technically speaking, that'd be the Dreamseeker. Obtained after defeating the Dream Devourer, it boasts an attack power of 240 (to Rainbows 220), and crit rate of 90% (Rainbow's crit chance is 70%). In order to obtain it, you'll need to defeat the Dream Devourer, let the credits roll, and create a new save file. When you start your next New Game+, Chrono will have the weapon.
Practically however, since Attack Power caps at 255, you may find other weapons with different effects to be more desirable once you're at a level of power at which you can acquire the Dreamseeker in the first place.
