Is there a way to assign damage to multiple defenders?

Question

I have noticed that whenever the computer blocks with multiple defenders, the computer clearly decides which distribution of damage is most advantageous. It does not seem to matter what order I assign the defenders; no matter whether I assign them first, last, or in the middle, the damage will be assigned in such a way as to destroy my most important defender, leaving only the weakest defender if there isn't enough damage to destroy all of them.

Is there a way that I can assign the damage to defenders in a similar fashion, when I am attacking? Because right now it seems to default to the least beneficial distribution for me when there is not enough damage to destroy all defenders (i.e. the weakest defenders are killed first, in rather an opposite fashion to what happens when I'm the defender). Is this biased both ways in favor of the computer, or is there a way for me to enable further control?

Answer

In the normal tabletop card-game, if there are multiple creatures blocking one creature, it's the attacking-player who gets to choose what order to assign the damage.

In Magic 2012: DotP, when you are the attacker, by default the computer chooses an order for you (to keep the game "simple"). You can however change it so that you get to decide the order every time by going to Settings --> Advanced --> uncheck "Auto assign damage."

What should guide your deck selection in the archenemy campaign in DOTP 2012?

Question

I'm having real trouble with figuring out how to beat the green deck in the archenemy campaign. It seems that no matter what decks I use for me and the computer, Garruk has over built and there is no way to keep up. So what decks should I use to keep this green power house under control?

Asked by sarge_smith

Answer

I beat this using Chandra's Unquenchable Fire for all three rounds. Cast your damage spells directly on the opponent when possible. Also, your creatures should act as shields, so try not to use them too offensively.

Just keep using instants and sorceries to win each round. Throw in whatever cards you can to make this happen.

The trick is just having enough creatures between you and your pal to survive. Don't try to overpower Garruk's creatures, he can pop out way too many--that is what green is for, after all. Just go straight for him.

Also, if you bump the difficulty up, it might make the enemies a bit harder, but your ally will play better as well.

What do the icons next to defeated opponents mean?

Question

When you defeat an opponent, the game places a weird-looking sigil next to the opponent's portrait:

Magic: the Gathering Sigils

The colors might be hard to see, but the one to the left is bronze, and the two right ones are silver.

What do they mean? Do the colors represent the opponent's strength? How handily I trounced them? Something else?

Note: this is for Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

Answer

The icon tells you what difficulty you have beaten that planeswalker on:

  • Bronze is Mage
  • Silver is Archmage
  • Gold is Planeswalker

How do I choose which lands to tap?

Question

Whenever I cast a spell, the game automatically taps an appropriate number of lands. However, it's often important to tap specific lands to leave correct mana available for additional spells. The game doesn't always do a very good job of picking the right lands to tap.

Is there any way I can manually choose which lands to tap when casting a spell?

Answer

For the sake of simplicity and quicker multiplayer play, Duels of the Planeswalkers games do not let you select which lands to tap.

This is has been a bit of a contentious thing in the official forums since the launch of the original game, and has not been addressed in Magic 2012.
