How do I use a microphone in Diablo 3?

I have searched the game menus and cannot find how to enable my headset microphone. Is this possible in Diablo 3? What are the alternatives? Are there external programs used for this?

NO, there is no Voice-chat (yet) in Diablo3

"There is no built in voice chat, at least not for ship," Bashiok said. "If we try voice chat in another game we want to make sure its worth using."

You can talk with your friends using a third party technology such as:

1. Ventrilo for its ease in finding and buying a hosted Vent server.
2. Team Speak, the most common Vent alternative.
3. Skype is popular because many gamers have it already and no server is needed.
4. XFire for its integrated IM and social networking platform.
5. Mumble because it is free and open source.

How can I have different Audio output for Steam Voice chat?

I was playing Portal 2 today and I wanted to have in-game audio (environmental sounds) through my main desktop speakers, while having my voice chat output to my headset. I couldn't find the setting to change my default output speakers for voice-chat... I ended up having to put all audio through my headset. Is there any way I can set output voice to my headset and leave ingame audio to my main speakers?

Answer

Using a program called IndieVolume you can choose which audio output a program will play off, unfortunately, splitting the two different sounds from within portal is not possible, so an external voice client must be used (such as steam chat).

How does the in-game voice chat work?

I'm still kinda new to the game (still haven't even got my first 80), but I've played for the past couple months and noticed they have the new voice feature. But I've never heard anyone speaking.

I know people do use Ventrilo, and eventually TeamSpeak, but what about the in-game voice chat? How does it work? Does it work? Why people don't use it? I'd love being able to chat on Random Dungeons or even hear everyone screaming in Battle Grounds, like you can already do in Counter Strike for a long time already.

My wife and I do tank/heal while leveling our alts, and I have a macro that says people are welcome to join us in there. I've only had one person do it, but it's still an option. Beats typing it every time.

If you don't tell them they are there, they won't know you're there! :-)

How do I disable always on voice chat in Dead Island?

I decided to try out Dead Island's co-op mode. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to turn off voicechat and I can't find any push to talk option. I don't want to just unplug my microphone because I want to be able to chat with my friends using Mumble or some other external program.

I can't seem to find any option in the audio configuration file to turn off voicechat or change it to push to talk. Is there any way to do this or do I need to wait for a patch?

COD Black Ops: Can opponents voice chat in free for all?

Question

In a free for all match, can I voice chat with my opponents?

One of my friends started playing Black Ops (it's her first FPS game ever) and to teach her how to play I created a private free for all match so we would be the only two players on the map.

I tried voice chat with her and everything was set up correctly (we could see the speaker icon above our heads blink when either of us spoke in the map).

Only thing is I could not hear her at all (the volume was up high).

I know in TDM you can't listen to the enemy chatter due to strategy and stuff but I would guess you could listen to enemies in free for all (for trash talking).

Anyway, to repeat, is it possible to listen to enemy voice chat in FFA?

In free for all, all chat is on. you should be able to talk to any player in the match.
