Unable to activate EMP cannon in final mission

Question

I'm on the final mission of the Anno 2770 campaign, and I am trying to disable F.A.T.H.E.R.'s shields using the EMP cannon installed on one of my ships. However, when I left-click on the EMP cannon to activate it, nothing happens. What am I missing?

Asked by Templar

Answer

After you click to activate the EMP item, you need to click a target. One that hopefully most of your other ships are nowhere near, as it will disable everything within its area of effect.

Do I need a Tree Nursery for a Sawmill if I already have a natural forest?

Question

In campaign mission 1-4, I need to supply wood for an item as one of my quests. In order to do this, I need to build a Sawmill. The production chain ingame recommends a Tree Nursery for a Sawmill, but I'm wondering how necessary it is to have a Tree Nursery if I'm placing the Sawmill in an area that is currently fully forested.

Will there be a negative effect on my Sawmill's productivity if I don't build a Tree Nursery for it? What bonuses will I get if I do choose to build a Tree Nursery?

Answer

Unlike Anno 1404, the sawmill doesn't replenish the trees it cuts down. The tree nursery replenishes trees. If you build your sawmill in a fully forested area, eventually it'll use all the trees it has in its surrounding and then will not be able to cut down any more trees, because there won't be any.

If you just want to build a sawmill, deforest the area, and then demolish it and move on, you don't need a tree nursery, if you want to create a supply chain that will continue to produce wood, you need to build a Tree Nursery.

Take notice that 1 Tree Nursery can support several sawmill, see layout here.

Is there any use for Top Secret Files?

Question

When I destroy enemy buildings with my ships they drop in the water. The tooltip implies that they might be useless, but in that case why are they implemented? It feels like they should be good for something.

Answer

First of all, they are good for something, they can be sold to npc traiders for licences. Beyond that they are worthless. While I have no proof for that fact I have came to that conclusion through deduction:

  1. Items are eather usefull by themselves, or as parts of a scematic at the academy (or both). And since those items aren't usable by themselves (i.e you can't put them in an open slot of a viechale, setelment or the arc and activate) If they have a fanction (beyond to sell them) it would be as a needed part for a schematic.
  2. I have descovered most of the scematics at the acedemy, and didn't encounter one that needs them.
  3. Beyond 2, since those things are only available by sinking enemy ships, If you play a game withput enemies, or that you have already destroied all your rivals and the npc enemies (the baracuda and the merceneries), you have no way of getting said items, which means that if there was a schematic requiering them, you couln't creat in that game, which is just not fair or nice.
  4. since it's not fair to and frastraiting to the player to get a schematic which he has no option or chance to complite, I believe that the developers didn't put them as requierments even for the schematic which I haven't unlocked and checked yet.

Just sell them to an NPC near you for the licences, they can acumilate for quite a lot. Should be said, that some of the items droped by enemy ships are white flags, shield, clocking devices and etc. and are usable for a single time aboard a ship.

How do I get higher career ranks?

Question

I get messages from time to time saying I got "promoted" in my career, but I can't figure out what triggers that.

Answer

When you go to your charecter screen (click on your portrait/avatar in the main menu), you have an option to view your "career progress". In there you'll notice that you have a progression bar made of several levels for each of the main factions (Eco, Tech & Tycoon). The progress bar is made of ranks represented by circles. Each circle has its own progression bar that is filled by gaining career points for that faction. The messages that you got that you have advanced your career, ment that you have gained enoughf career points with one of the fanctions to gain a new level. Each level gained gives you rewords, avatars for your profiles, more upgrade slots at the arc, colors and formulas for the academy.

You gain career points for accomplishing goals at the main campeign, comptiting the daily quest for a certain faction (the faction that you chose will give you the points), global events, senate votes and maybe for some of the achievments (i.e make so and so quest for that faction).

How do I play Anno 2070 offline?

Question

I completely love the anno series of games. Now I have bought anno 2070, install it, activate it, and now when I run the game, I am required to login.

There is an "offline mode" button in the launcher, but even if I click on it, as the game starts, I am asked to login. No offline mode button this time.

The manual states the following:

You need an active broadband internet connection to activate Anno 2070, to receive updates and to play the online features.

I have already activated the game, I have already updated it, and I don't want to play the online features. Yet I seem to be required to register.

The point is I don't want to register. I purchased an offline game, and I want to play it offline. There is absolutely no valid reason I see why it is mandatory to give personally identifiable information in order to play my game.

So, how do I play my game without having to register?

Answer

You don't.

From the Steam page:

Internet Connection: Temporary broadband connection for product registration, permanent broadband connection for multiplayer.

Translation: You must register online even if you only want to play it offline.

And it gets worse -- if try to play offline after registering online it'll still cripple the game for no apparent reason other than to punish you for daring to want to play the game without an internet connection.

This isn't even the worst customer-hostile DRM decision Ubisoft has made recently, but it's a good example of why I stopped buying Ubisoft games after Assassin's Creed 1.

How does offline mode impact Anno 2070?

Question

Anno 2070 apparently has online and offline modes, and I'm wondering how those modes are different. I found some discussion of what you can't do in offline mode, but having not yet played the game those specifics weren't very helpful for me.

Basically I'm wondering about whether the online mode adds legitimate multiplayer-like content/gameplay, and whether offline mode is artificially restricted as a form of DRM. (Ie. am I punished for playing offline, or am I just playing by myself?)

Answer

The biggest thing I discovered is you can't use your Ark upgrades. Which is rather sad. Just when I think Ubisoft is doing better I discover they just secretly sabotage the game in a less obvious way.

I mean yes the game can be played without the Ark upgrades but they are significant. Even if you research them within the game your playing it wont let you equip it. So you miss out on powerful global buff's to your buildings/units. I could understand disabling the persistent Ark inventory but not the ability to equip the items entirely.

So to answer your question : Yes, you do get "punished"

In my opinion, you shouldn't, but that's how the game is put together.

How to increase warehouse storage capacity in Anno2070

Question

In Anno1404, you could build docks (or maybe something else, I am not sure I remember correctly), each of which would increase the capacity of the warehouse. I couldn't find anything equivalent in Anno2070. Is it possible to increase warehouse capacity (apart from upgrading it) ?

Answer

The building that you're looking for that equates to the docks in 1404 is the Harbor Depot. In addition to being able to upgrade your Port Authority Warehouse by clicking in the top right corner, you can build these buildings. They'll store 40 more tons of goods.

Is it possible to change my island name?

Question

It was possible in Anno 1404 at least, but I can't seem to find an option for it in 2070.

Answer

If you click on the main warehouse of your island and then click on the island name in the top right you can change it.

How do I maintain a constant amount of a good on an island via trade routes?

Question

Is there way to set up trade routes to maintain a certain goods level? For example, if I have three islands where I might want to build, is it possible to set up a route to ensure that a certain island is always "topped up" to, say, 30 building modules but no more?

Answer

By right-clicking on goods in the warehouse or depot, you can set the minimum amount that is kept in stock.

Once you've set that, you can set a trade route to unload and then load from that port and it will keep the stock of that good at the amount you set as the minimum.

I did this in my sandbox game with just one "Building Materials" trade route. Using the Tycoon's ships that have 6 cargo holds, I had them set to unload then load the six types of building materials (building modules, tools, wood, concrete, glass, and steel) from each of my islands and had set a minimum on each island for these 6 goods. Set a handful of ships to the route and it worked pretty well.
