When expending additional AP to aim a weapon what does the yellow circle mean?

Question

In Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business when you expend additional AP to aim at the enemy, on the final click before you cycle back to no extra AP the aiming circle will turn yellow without increasing the number of AP the shot will take. For example: 6 -> 7 -> 8 -> 9 -> 10 -> 10 (yellow) -> 6. The game manual only says that 4 AP is the maximum you can spend on a shot. What does the yellow circle mean?

Answer

Confused me a lot when I played the game the first time, too.

This just means, that you cannot aim better and any further aiming attempt will just reset to the first step. I think it was implemented as some kind of safety measure, so that you know when your cannot spend more APs on this shot. (that you dont have to click 5 times again after reset on accident).

There is no other effect on this yellow circle although I always was kind of superstitious that it "might" have an effect and tended to click to yellow rather than let it stay white.

The manual and even the "official strategy guide" (at least for vanilla) were pretty unaccurate as they were released, it seems that there have been some last time balancing additions to the game that didn't make it to the handbook and guide.

Does the ADDITIONAL GUNS option in Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business effect the difficulty of the game?

Question

In Jagged-Alliance-2: Unfinished Business there is an option to add additional guns to the game. Does this increase the difficulty of the game (Say by giving your opponents better weapons while leaving your starting weapons the same), decrease it (Give you better starting weapons, give you more options latter on) or not really effect the difficulty of the game?

Answer

I provide this answer although I never played UB, but am pretty sure that the option has the same effect as in standard JA2.

Jagged Alliance has some sort of algorithm that gives your opponents weapons to fit the sectors difficulty. The option has no effect on how good certain weapons are, but the games table to choose a weapon from is just bigger.

I did not want to write the above stuff without confirmation, so here it goes:

but just for the record, tons of guns tends to make ammo problems worse, not better. It doesn't mean you get more equipment; it means you get a greater variety of equipment. With tons of guns, you'll find guns and ammo types that just aren't available in normal mode. (The idea was to provide a mode with a reduced weapon's set for anyone who was feeling overwhelmed by the sheer size of the JA2 arsenal.) As a result, while you're getting just as much stuff, it's divided among a far more diverse array of weapons and ammo, forcing you to diversify your team to a far greater extent or risk bleeding yourself dry of a critical ammo type.

What effects do the Sun Goggles have on a Merc?

Question

Does anyone know for sure what effect the Sun Goggles have on a merc in the original Jagged Alliance?

Answer

Sun Goggles improve sight range by up to 2 squares when you're in a brighter than normal condition, such as "Deserts" or other bright areas. There's also no penalty for wearing them at night so if you've got them... give them to a Merc.

Unfortunately they also decrease your effective range by 10% so don't put them on your sniper.
