How do I start the Secret Armory of General Knoxx in Borderlands on XBOX 360

Question

I have Borderlands on the XBOX 360. I purchased and downloaded the Secret Armory DLC. There's no T-Bone Junction fast-travel point that is supposed to exist in the game with any existing characters, do I need to start over and play through the game again to make it appear?

UPDATE: re-downloading the DLC worked.

Asked by postfuturist

Answer

Access T-Bone Junction from the Fast Travel points. It shows for all characters after the install—there's no need to play through the game again to make it appear. (I installed the DLC after I finished the original game.) If you're having trouble, install all latest patches, reinstall the DLC, and reset your cache and try it all again (in this order).

What are Borderlands' multiplayer game modes?

Question

I have the game and all of its DLC. I am at level 18 in the single-player.

Do you suggest that I finish the single-player before starting multiplayer? What are Borderlands' multiplayer features/game modes?

Asked by Drake

Answer

The main Multiplayer mode is co-op.

I would level as co-op from now on. It's very fun (up to 4 players), mobs become more difficult and loot is better.

What is nice about co-op is that each player continues to play in their own story but you all play together (for example 3 people help you on your Quest xy but they already did it).

As far as I can remember, the player's game with the least progression is always the game the other players will also play in.

How do I beat the final boss in the main game?

Question

How do I beat the end-boss in Borderlands?

Answer

I just recently completed the game so it's still fresh in my mind. There are three places you need to hit the end boss. The best way to do that is from behind the arch you came into the map. I've tried to fight from behind the pillars in the middle of the field but died...

Useful weaponry: * Longbow grenades (The only ones you can hit it well with) * Sniper rifles (I think shock did pretty well) * 11001010 cannon or what ever the name was exactly (infinite ammo = very handy towards the end) * Rocket launcher

You can see a pattern here: distance distance distance.

Alright. The first thing you have to target are the glowing purple orbs in the tentacles. As long as the tentacles are around they shoot missiles at you in periodic intervals. And let me tell you those hurt! Only weapon suitable for this is the sniper.

Second thing is the tongue. The boss has a vertical mouth. Once you've destroyed the tentacles this thing starts opening on occasion and a tongue shoots out trying to hit you. You have to hit that. Best way to do it is the sniper gun. If you manage to time it right you can use the 11010101 or RPG.

When you have destroyed the tongue the eye part begins. Occasionally the eye opens and shoots a bright beam at you. When it does that the eye becomes an easy target. You can hit the eye in between attacks too but it requires rather good aim. From time to time the tentacles will grow back again and you'll have to shoot them off a few more times so it's important that you save enough sniper bullets for that and use the slower ranged weapons for the eye.

Why are some shapes on the skill tree hexagonal instead of square?

Question

Why are three/four of the shapes on Brick's skill tree hexagonal while the rest are square? Aesthetics?

Asked by Albort

Answer

The skills on the tree with a hexagon shape are skills that have some sort of time limit on how long they last. The fist for example increases melee damage for a few seconds. Juggernaut reduces damage for a few seconds, etc.

The other characters have similar skills that last for a limited amount of time.

The more you upgrade these skills the longer that skill lasts.

Can Borderlands class mods raise a skill past 5 points?

Question

Basically, can I use a class mod to raise a skill past 5, or is it capped at 5?

For example, if I am playing with Lilith, and I have my Girl Power ability raised up to 4, through leveling, and then I get a class mod that adds +3, is my Girl Power now at 5 or 7?

Asked by Beska

Answer

Yes, it won't show up as 7, but it will work.

This can be verified by using Mordecai's bird of prey skill with his bloodwing and counting the number of hits the bird goes through before returning.

However, keep in mind that boosting any probability above 100% won't matter (like having more than 100% chance of shield penetration on trespass). The extra damage % will still count.

Do actions in “Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot” affect challenges?

Question

I've been playing through Borderlands again, trying to complete all the missions. Occasionally, I've unlocked challenges in the game like "Not Really a People Person" (Kill 250 Humans). Some of these challenges are quite time-consuming and since I have yet to complete "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot", I was wondering, do kills and other actions in the underdome count towards challenges?

Asked by NT3RP

Answer

Yes, they do count. I've completed a human kills challenge in a Riot Arena. The Borderlands Wiki article on this DLC has this to say (emphasis added):

No experience is gained from kills inside the Underdome and consequently weapon proficiencies are not affected, although it is still possible to complete challenges for experience.

Borderlands Lilith skill builds

Question

Mixed views on this but what is the optimal build for Lilith?

I want to build a powerful damage dealer with good survivability but find myself very clueless as to what to put skill points in. Any direction would be great!

My level is 43.

Asked by Simon

Answer

I want to build a powerful damage dealer with good survivability but find myself very clueless as to what to put skill points in.

My Lilith has both of those characteristics, but it heavily relies on being able to find some good SMGs. Even still, she can't approach the levels of damage dealing that my Mordecai can dish out, but she is much tougher to kill due to her boosted survivability.

Here is how my skills break down with ~56 skill points:

Controller Tree

  • Diva x5 (Survivability)
  • Inner Glow x5 (more survivability when escaping)
  • Hard to Get x5 (more phasewalking is good)
  • Girl Power x5 (More survivability)
  • Mind Games x1 (just for fun)

Elemental Tree

  • Quick Silver x5 (More DPS)
  • Spark x5 (Elemental effects are good)
  • Resilience x5 (survivability)

Assassin Tree

  • Slayer x5 (crit damage = more dps)
  • Enforcer x5 (more DPS after a kill)
  • High Velocity x5 (more accuracy and damage)
  • Blackout x5 (more phasewalking, but get this after hard to get)

For the last remaining 14 skill points (or so depending ho what DLCs you have), you can think about maxing out Mind Games and putting some points into Intuition/Radiance. I wouldn't recommend phoenix though, as the flame aura from that can cause nearby barrels to explode, which is a pain in the ass on some maps.

With this build you can shoot and shoot, then run away with phasewalk when your health gets low.

I haven't tried a pure melee build as I don't think it'd work that well, but I could be wrong.

Finally, make absolutely sure you find yourself a class mod that provides SMG ammo regeneration, without it you'll go through ammo waaaaay too fast.

Is the yellow claptrap in arid badlands an easter egg or something else?

Question

I recently began playthrough 2 so I'm located in arid badlands. I killed Bone Head and while wandering back I saw this yellow claptrap.

Zoomed out Zoomed in

So is this one just an easter egg or something else?

Asked by Tom

Answer

It's possible to get up there, but it's a tricky place to get to:

As far as I know, it's just an easter egg - there's nothing much that this Claptrap does. Someone on the YouTube video said that you get XP for saying there a while; I never noticed this on my playthrough. He is decorated with Gearbox colors, for what that's worth :)

Can I save the claptrap in the cage?

Question

enter image description here

Apparently I must save this little fella before I can get the Old Haven SDU. But how? There doesn't seem to be anything interactive around it, there doesn't seem to be any way to get up there, there doesn't seem to be any way to interact with the claptrap.

What should I do then?

Asked by badp

Answer

You need to progress down the main story line's quests until Tanis gives you one that is entitled, Not without my Claptrap. This is one of the last quests before moving on to a new zone so it may take a few before you receive it, but I am unsure of the exact number between the one showing on your screen (the one where you put the fires out) and the one you free the claptrap on. It is not more than 1-3 however (its often hard to tell main quests away from optional, hehe).

Where is the claptrap in Old Haven?

Question

enter image description here

According to the Borderlands Wikia, the claptrap in Old Haven should be under my crosshair. There's nothing there, though. The only claptrap I've found is on the other side of the bridge, and he looks alive and well, although trapped in a cage. He doesn't want to die, I don't want him to die either, but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it.

What's going on?

Asked by badp

Answer

Answer Take Two:

The claptrap that you rescue from the cage (The one that you already found) will make the one that will appear where you are looking appear. You must continue to progress along the quest line until you get to the quest that specifically asks you to go save the caged claptrap. After that is done, a nice blue claptrap will appear in that room leaking its last squirts of oil!

When to install Borderlands DLCs?

Question

I just got Borderlands Game of the Year Edition in the mail today. The game comes with all four DLCs. When should I install these DLCs? Would I just install the main game, complete it and then install the DLCs one at a time in release order (if that's even possible. Not sure if you need to install all four DLCs)?

Asked by SimonBS

Answer

There's no disadvantages to installing them all now in any order.

You access the DLCs from the Teleport menu and can completely ignore them until you want to play them. However Mad Moxxie's DLC gives you instant access to a bank to store items in (GREAT for keeping spare guns/COMs) and Knoxx's Armory DLC boosts the level cap by 10 levels just by installing it.

You don't have to play these DLCs at all to get these benefits, though you do have to enter Mad Moxxie's area to store items in the bank, but there are no quests that you have to do to get the bank. You can warp to Moxxie's underdome and store items immediately.

How can I find out what missions are available in Borderlands?

Question

As I make my way through the main storyline, Claptrap will randomly appear in the top-right and say something like:

Greetings, Person X has more jobs for you at Place Y.

Or similar to that.

Unfortunately because I mostly play late at night and my room is adjacent to someone else my dad boards out to, I have to have the volume extremely low and I don't hear what person or where I can get the new mission.

Is there a log of what Claptrap says somewhere maybe?

Asked by Marty Wallace

Answer

Unfortunately, there is no way for you to view a log of what the claptrap says, but he will repeat often (quite annoying I've found).

Generally, there are only a few sources of quests in any given zone, and you can look up all the available missions in that area on the wiki. You'll see that most of the missions originate from bounty boards with only a few NPCs handing out some other ones.

Borderlands ammunition SDU upgrade provides the same total ammo as my current total?

Question

I picked up Borderlands this week and am really enjoying it. I'm playing the Siren and use primarily Repeater Pistol and SMG weapons.

A little while back I purchased an Ammunition SDU from a vending machine. The SDU increased my SMG ammo up to I think 720.

Now whenever I visit vending machines that I come across, I still have the option to purchase an SDU for the same Ammunition. I figure you can just continually upgrade a certain ammo type and max it out (at an increasing cost), but the tooltip seems to be telling me that purchasing the SDU will increase my ammo to the capacity that I already have (720) and cost me $6000.

Is the tooltip misleading or is there actually only one SDU for each ammunition and they keep it in the shop for the sake of having it populated?

Asked by Marty Wallace

Answer

There are 6 levels of SDUs for every ammo type in Borderlands. Whichever level SDUs are available will be shown, but you will be unable to actually purchase an SDU that does not exceed the one you already have.

Also, ammo SDUs do not stack, and purchasing the highest level SDU will have the same effect as purchasing all of them, for a given ammo type.

Reach level 61 in Borderlands

Question

I have all the expansion packs, and I have finished all the quests (except kill crawmerax) on both playthroughs of the game, and I am only level 58. I tried going through the last section of the main game and the Knoxx expansion, but killing enemies alone is not giving me much experience. What is the best way to get the experience needed to reach level 61? Are there any other sections of the game with lots of high level enemies, or bosses that I can beat repeatedly?

Answer

You can go back and fight Motorhead. He respawns every 15 minutes and he gives out experience each time you fight him.

Also, fighting SkyScraper at Level 57 nets 23,000XP if you kill him on the ground. Aim for his rear end (for critical hits).

Also (and I can't believe I just remembered this), the higher level challenges unlook about 20,000XP a piece.

After you beat General Knoxx, the enemies are 'leveled up' to levels 55-61. This allows you to gain experience by fighting them again.

What is the maximum level a character can reach in Borderlands?

Question

What is the maximum level that a character can reach in Borderlands for PC without any of the DLC installed, and with all of the DLC installed?

Answer

I have the Xbox version, but the maximum level without DLC should be 50. With "The Secret Armory of General Knoxx" the maximum is 61 (it goes to eleven, har har).

"The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" doesn't affect the maximum level. "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot" doesn't either, but it does provide 2 extra skill points you only normally get by ranking up. One for beating the "lesser challenge" (only 5 rounds) in each of the 3 stadiums during playthrough #1, and the other for doing the same in playthrough #2.

The level cap for all characters was increased by 8 with the release of patch 1.4.1. This makes a total of 69 skill points to earn, though the four gained from DLC's 2 and 4 will still require those add-ons (as they are mission rewards). (source)

What do you do about running out of ammo in Borderlands?

Question

While playing Borderlands I have noticed that whenever there is a boss mission you generally have to go through an entire Sahara desert to reach him in his hideout. Along the way you have to kill everyone present. This is insane. The problem:

1) There is no option to buy more ammo once you are near the boss, so either you have to switch to a different gun or come back to start all the way to buy the ammo. Using a different gun isn't an efficient method because I'll be wasting the proficiency gain which I could use on my preferred weapon.

2) When I tried coming back all the way to the beginning, the game respawns all the monsters, so I had to kill them ALL while coming back. The reward chests, however, do not respawn.

3) I purchased ammo and started running towards the boss again but to my surprise the stupid monsters had respawned yet again.

4) This time I kept rushing forward but just near the boss I was surrounded and died. I went back to the starting point again.

I'm finding this extremely frustrating. How do I proceed in this area without resorting to cheats? The mission is Sledge: Battle For Badlands.

Thanks a load in advance.

Answer

I haven't played the game in a while, but if I remember correctly, enemies drop ammo fairly frequently. If it's not the right kind of ammo for the gun you're using, consider switching up guns. I remember I carried guns of 3 or 4 different classes with me at all times. You may not be as proficient with all of them, but at least you have something to use.

Use the guns you're worse with or that the enemies are dropping ammo for against the grunt enemies, and save the really powerful guns for the boss.

How much cash do you lose when you die in Borderlands?

Question

When you die in, you keep all your items, but lose some cash when you respawn at a New-U station. I can't find a clear answers of what percentage of your cash is lost or if it scales with some other factor as well.

Answer

The amount of money you lose upon death is approximately 7% of the total amount you're currently carrying. While there is some variability on the Internet about what this % is (5%, 7%, 10%, etc.) the top voted answer here seems trustworthy as the user ran 3 separate tests all in a row.

What do the symbols (icons) in the Borderlands multiplayer game info mean?

Question

When looking for an online game to join on Borderlands (I have the PS3 version), sometimes there are little icons or symbols in the information for a particular game, under the words "Plot Mission :" and the name of the mission. For example, one looks like a little box with a parachute. (I can't make out what the rest are.) What do these symbols indicate?

Answer

I am going to assume you mean these:

alt text

That is the DLC indicator. The symbols are General Knoxx, Moxxi's Underdome, and Island of Dr. Ned, from left to right. If there is a checkmark by it like so, it means that the host has the DLC.

If you see a black X in a red circle next to the image, like this,

alt text

then the host does not have that particular piece of DLC. You can see in this particular example that the host has none of the DLC at all.
