What is a Lagrangian point, and how can I get a bird into one?

After looking up what Lagrangian point meant, I'm pretty sure I'm more confused about what it is. It seems to mean that it's some sort of point in between 2 planets or objects in spaces where a third object would maintain an orbit. Then again, I'm no astronomer.

More importantly, how and on which level of Angry Birds: Space can I get a bird into a Lagrangian point? I ask all this because there is a Game Center achievement called Centripetal Force: Shoot a bird into a lagrangian point, which I'm trying to get.

A Lagrangian point is a point between two large bodies where if you place a small body with negligible influence on the two larger bodies (such as, say, a satellite between the Sun and the Earth), the gravitational force exerted by the two large bodies is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction such that they cancel each other out, thus enabling the small object to stay in equilibrium in that position in space relative to the bigger object.

Now, that's for real life - in Angry Birds Space, gravitation works somewhat differently - unlike in real life where the gravitational field created by masses reaches infinity, gravity wells in Angry Birds Space only covers a certain area - an area that is conveniently marked out for you with a blue circle. As mentioned above, a Lagrangian point is a point between two larger bodies. In game, this translates to looking out for an area where two different gravity wells intersect.

The map which is most convenient to do this is 2-19, where you are given three large green birds to fire at three planets with significant amount overlapping gravity well to work with. Shoot the bird at the top of the building on the first planet, and the bird should slow down enough to hit the overlapping region between the two planets and hopefully stop there.

^{NB: I'm playing this on the Android version of Angry Birds Space, so there's no achievements, and thus no way to actually test if this actually will give you the achievement, other than that it fits your description}

Update

The latest update of Angry Birds Space fixes a bug and makes this achievement not only possible, but incredibly easy. A bird now only needs to pass through the intersection of two gravity fields to gain the achievement.

What is the meaning of this turnip?

It looks suspicious.

Is there any reason I should go after it? I can't reach it with the red cadet.

Answer

The turnips can be destroyed for 1000 points. They aren't evil or special. You'll find some others littered across other levels, but they don't provide any special functionality currently. You do want to keep an eye out for golden eggs though.

In the level above (Pig Bang 13), you can destory this one with the blue bird, but I'm pretty sure to 3 star the level, you should be finishing the level with the first bird.

How are all the Eggsteroid levels opened?

I've gone through all the levels that come as part of the base game (Pig Bang, and Cold Cuts), and have only stumbled across one Eggsteroids level (#2, found on I believe Pig Bang, level 20 hiding in the bushes).

It appears there are currently 5 total Eggsteroids levels. Where can I find all the Eggsteroids and what is needed to unlock them?

Zoom out to see the Golden Eggsteroid hidden in the brush below the two bubbled-pigs. Fire any of the Blue birds to reach it. This Eggsteroid level pays homage to Space Invaders (1978).

Eggsteroids #2 Pig Bang Level 1-20

The Golden Eggsteroid is hidden in the tall brush atop the planet. Fire a Lazer bird above it, then redirect him into the Eggsteroid. This Eggsteroid level pays homage to Super Mario (1985).

Eggsteroids #3 Cold Cuts Level 2-13

3 stars when defeating the pigmobile

I've beaten the pig on Pig Bang level 1-30 with two or three birds and got 73760 as my highest score, which is enough for two stars. I'm guessing the 3-stars score is around 75k. The problem is that there's not much in the way of points in this level, and I don't think I can beat it with just one bird. I'm stumped as to how I can 3-star this, any ideas?

(Un?)fortunately, Angry Birds is pretty much non-deterministic for touchscreen devices, so sometimes you just have to keep trying and hope you get lucky. This is especially true for this level.

The general idea here is to create a chain reaction where one rock would burst the bubbles of the other ones. Both vegetables and rocks can burst bubbles, but only rocks can damage the vehicle. It takes around 4 rock impacts to destroy the pigmobile. Since gravity is at work here, aiming higher helps.

Here are two not-very-helpful screenshots that'll hopefully illustrate the idea. And yes, getting 76k requires you to only use the first bird.

How do you get 3 stars on Pig Bang 1-13 in Angry Birds Space?

I've succeeded in taking out all three pigs with my first (of three) birds. That earns me a paltry one star.

What's the trick?

Answer

If you can hit the 3rd vertical board at the top at the right spot (screenshot below), it will cause enough force to cause the cement block to drop on the first pig, and the ice block to hit the 2nd pig, which will then push things enough to knock over the tower with the 3rd pig.

I did this 3 times and averaged about 48,000 on each attempt which was enough for 3 stars on the iOS version.

What are the new birds in Angry Birds Space and what are their abilities?

Angry Birds Nest has a post with analysis of the announcement video:

• At first glance, the video suggests that the Red, Black, and [now-green] Big Brother birds all have the same abilities as before, though newly-designed.

• The Blue birds have the same ability, though they seem a bit stronger than in the original apps.

• There also seems to be a purple-colored bird (we are not going to speculate as to its name right now), whose ability is to redirect and accelerate. Personally, I believe this is a new ability of the existing Yellow bird.

• There is also a new “icy” bird (again, no speculation as to name), whose ability is to freeze its contact area on a structure.

This seems to be accurate based on this newer post describing all of the birds in detail, which I won't reproduce.

Edit: Based on playing the game just now, it appears that the blue birds don't speed up as mentioned in the latter post (but not the first). Possibly it was just confirmation bias on ABN's part since there's a nice rocket-like glow when they split apart. As well, all birds show a plot of the first part of their trajectory.

Can Space Eagles be earned?

In Angry Birds: Space, can you earn Space Eagles without purchasing them? The Game Center achievement reads like you have to purchase them, and there are other achievements tied to the Space Eagle. I'm wondering if you have to purchase them to complete the other achievements tied to the Space Eagle.

Yes: So far I've earnt 6 space eagles (in batches of three each time) through gameplay/3 star levels.

I've currently completed up to 2-11 and they did seem to come at major points: first unlocked golden egg/ 10 worlds and after the first boss fight.

How to beat Pig Bang 1-20

Question

I've been trying to get 3 stars on level 20 for a while and I can't figure it out. I get more points if I send the bird flying directly through the pigs instead of just bursting their bubble things but it's not enough. The grass stuff on the moon isn't enough points to justify using another bird to destroy it. Can anyone help me with this?

I've been retrying this level now for a few times just to check. Using just one bird, it gave me 2 stars once and 3 stars all the other times. That was apparently unrelated to me bursting their bubbles as opposed to hitting them directly, and independent of me shaving some grass. So I guess there's just some fluke - I recommend you just try it a few more times.

As a way of adding variety to your tries, try shooting into them a different direction than the one you've been trying - you can shoot into them from below as well as above. It makes shaving the grass or colliding with the moon easier.

How can I view my progress on bonus levels

In Angry Birds Space there are some bonus levels that appear when you hit special rocks. The birds get sucked into a mini black hole or something, you do the bonus level, and then they pop back out and you complete the original level. I guess this is to replace the golden egg levels, but I don't see a screen where I can see the ones I've unlocked or finished. Is there an in-game way to view the progress on these extra levels?

These levels are under Eggsteroids. From the screen containing all the planets, if you scroll over to the 4th planet, you'll see the Eggsteroids levels. Clicking on the planet will show you any unlocked levels and allow you to replay that level. These appear to be comparable to the Golden Egg levels of the earlier games.

Does the red bird have a special ability?

Some of the other birds are different in Angry Birds Space but does the small red bird have a new ability? When I tap while it's flying it sends out a little red shockwave thing but I can't tell if it does something (maybe I'm not timing it right).

From everything I've seen, the red bird is still just the same base bird with no special abilities as it was in past games. When you tap on the screen it makes a noise, but it doesn't seem to change anything about the flight path, which is similar to the other versions.

The shockwave you see when tapping appears to be cosmetic only. I ran a couple of tests on level 1-1 and triggered the shockwave right next to the pig without hitting it, and it didn't cause the pig to die or move at all.
