How do I beat the second boss (Yelena Fedorova of Picus)?

Question

After discovering the truth behind the anchor of Picus, Eliza Cassan, I am confronted by someone with augmentations that match or even defeat mine.

Any damage I do seems quickly repaired, and once she cloaks I can't find her any more.

What tactics should I use to beat her?

Asked by Arda Xi

Answer

Note that Eliza will always warn you before the boss uncloaks to charge you in melee. Try to position yourself around one of the large power cells around the room. When the boss uncloaks to charge you, place yourself between her and the cell, and she'll charge the cell, take damage, and be temporarily disabled (I've found that the easiest way on the hardest difficulty to do this is to jump over her as she charges, but I'm not sure if this is possible without the cybernetic leg prosthesis). Feel free to squeeze off a few head-shots with your weapon of choice while she's incapacitated if you have the electricity-shield upgrade on your dermal armor;otherwise, jump like a bunny on crack if the electricity damages you to avoid taking the full amount of damage. To my knowledge, there is no immediate "safe" place to hide from the electricity damage, but I could be wrong here.

If she still has some health left after charging all four cells, a fairly easy way to get some decent damage in is to stun her with your stun gun or EMP grenades and shoot her a few times with your weapon of choice. Then run. Run like demon monkeys are after you and hide like a scared NPC.

You can also "see" her while she's cloaked if you have the smart vision augmentation; this comes in handy to either plan surprise attacks or get to a safer location, as the boss moves quite slowly while cloaked, even on the hardest difficulty.

How do I beat the Reaper on Rannoch?

Question

I'm having trouble with the last of the Rannoch missions, where Shep wakes up and takes on a Reaper.

Shepard has a targeting laser which will call in an orbital strike with the combined might of the Quarian Migrant Fleet, but there's two major problems standing between the commander and victory.

  1. The Targeting Laser takes a while to power up.

  2. The Reaper is trying to kill you.

I can consistently avoid the Reaper's attacks for the first volley, but each time you hit it, the Reaper moves forwards, giving you less time to dodge future assaults. Is there some key to avoiding the Reaper's attacks? Strafing doesn't seem to be enough.

Asked by Raven Dreamer

Answer

This video walkthru shows that the main technique seems to involve rolling away from the laser at the right moment or using the entire width of the area to avoid the beam.

How to defeat the final boss, Ugh-Zan IV?

Question

Most bosses in the game can be defeated simply with enough gun, and if that don't work, use more gun.

The helicopter "boss" needs a little more finesse, but middle clicking during the fight fires up Netresca, which explains how to defeat the bastard.

The final boss also gets some help from Netresca, but this time around it just mentions the boss autoregenerates thanks to technomagic babble on the back. That's fine and dandy and the boss fight does indeed start with Ugh-Zan IV giving me the back as he keeps the sand whale (the one I've been so longing to destroy) at bay.

However, giving him all I've got during that window of opportunity doesn't seem to make a dent in his regenerative powers, and once he's done with the sand whales he just casts me out of existance with his blue orbs of doom.

How do you exploit the weakness of this boss and defeat him?

Asked by badp

Answer

This boss fight comes in four serious parts.

The initial distraction from the sandwhale. Rush to your left to collect health, armor, cannonballs (you'll need all 30) and most importantly the serious jetpack. If you only can pick one item up, make it the jetpack. Get out serious fast and hurry towards the serious stack of bars glowing red nearby. Grab one and start holding space. Quicksave. Do not change weapons now.

1. Ugh-Zan IV turns at you.

You'll find it is seriously impossible to get on his back while his attention is turned into you. What you need to do is maneuver your jetpack out of serious harm's way (stop holding space briefly to dive seriously quickly) while keeping an eye on your jetpack heat meter (between your health and ammo counter). You need to lure Ugh-Zan IV out of the central area so that the sand whale can return and attack again.

Should your jetpack overheat, you'll simply crash into the ground (you won't take fall damage) and the jetpack will quickly recover. However, you can't take off again if you're in the sand, so do make a serious effort to land on the solid area in the middle and make a run for another health pack if you can before taking off again.

Beware: if you go too far away from the center, the game will decide you're abandoning the fight and doom you to serious death. (Your healthpack will instantly overheat and you'll fall in the sandwhale's territory, who'll seriously instakill you a few seconds later.)

Simply buy time until Ugh-Zan IV turns away from you. Then it is time for your serious strike. I hope you're still holding that bar. Quicksave. Seriously.

2. The sand-whale is back.

Approach the back of Ugh-Zan and the game should make it serious clear that you need to throw that bar into his back. That'll incapacitate the regenerative powers of this serious nightmare. On normal difficulty, it'll be enough incapacitation. Switch to the serious cannon and start shooting charged shot after charged shot.

Optionally: repeat! Throw as many as 4 metal bars in his back! The first bar is enough to stop his regeneration, but the more bars you put in his back the more damage he'll take from the environmental lightning, which is extremely helpful.

3. Ugh-Zan IV goes back to you.

Keep shooting. You'll notice that he'll resume regenerating health, and it'll seem like you aren't actually getting anything serious done, and you'll be panicking as the cannon balls start running out serious fast, but keep at it. (YMMV on Hard, Serious and Mental) Eventually, just as you're about to run out of ammo, he'll get struck by serious lightning. This'll again stop his regeneration, and damage him too. Just keep shooting seriously. The 29th or the 30th cannon ball should take his last sliver of health and then it's game seriously over.

Alternately, wait for the lightning to strike -- the more metal rods you put in his back, the more damage the lightning will do -- and hit him just after the lightning has weakened him, dealing the death blow.

4. Ugh-Zan IV recovers.

Okay, perhaps you didn't use enough gun in the previous step, or at harder difficulties just one metal bar in his back won't do..

You can stop shooting now. Once he does start regenerating after the lightning bolts, he'll regenerate fast enough to make your efforts seriously fruitless. Swiftly swoop in for the second set of cannonballs (be very careful, or you'll get pretty much destroyed by all the regular mobs constantly spawning in the background), grab a second pole and try this again. This time, use more serious gun. Alternatively, quickload into a previous step.

How Do I Defeat Yomi?

Question

What is a working strategy for defeating Yomi? Which paradigms should I be using, which monsters in my paradigm deck, and what is the overall flow of battle?

Asked by Yuck

Answer

It's actually all a matter of surviving, you only need 3 paradigms really, and I only really used the 3rd one once. Have Noel and Serah both be Sabs and have a strong sentinel (Silver choc) for one paradigm and the other have Noel and Serah both be Syns and have a good medic (Green Choc or Flanitor) then when Yomi isn't in the aura stay with the Sab paradigm and keep casting everything you got on him, mainly poison (this is how you'll defeat him mainly) then when he retreats switch to the syn/med paradigm and cast buffs and heal. Just keep doing that til he succumbs to poison and wound. The third paradigm you may need is all sentinels and that's just for when he unleashes his special attack.

How do I avoid the Queen Endrega's poison and kill it?

Question

Getting poisoned by the Queen Endrega is pretty much a death sentence. It comes out quickly in a spray and hits you even if you're trying to roll out of the way.

Even if I'm able to kill the other Endregas around her (which re-spawn if you save after killing them...at least I can farm experience this way), fighting the Queen one-on-one is futile and suicidal.

Which signs and strategies are especially effective? Is it just another matter of having to have a perfect run to win the battle?

Asked by StrixVaria

Answer

I just killed my first Endrega Queen (I find out we have to kill two of the things. TWO!), and if you're getting hit by the poison, you're probably fighting much too close to the queen.

Hit and run tactics are your best friend here -- the greater distance you are to begin with, the easier it is to dodge the poison stream, the charge attack, everything.

The other useful thing was the Aard sign. The damage / daze effect it creates can stop most of the Queen's attacks mid-animation, giving you time to get in a swing or two. Dart in, blast her with the sign, strike a few times with your sword, dodge away, wait for vigor to recharge, and repeat.

I found that when fighting the queen, the quick attack style oftentimes did "minimal damage", so stick to heavy attacks when you can.

The last helpful advice I can give is that the Queen shakes her head just before spraying the poison, and rears back before her charge attack.

How do I wake the boss at the top of the Tower of Nod?

Question

There doesn't seem to be any way in game to do it. I've tried various abilities (like Whistle) and the party tricks, but none seem to work!

Answer

Unfortunately, this looks to be impossible in the current state of the game. There will be a DLC that you can buy sometime in the near future that will allow you to continue on.

How to beat Matriarch Benezia with little health?

Question

I just beat the first wave of commandos Benezia sends after you in Mass Effect. The game automatically saved and after the conversation ends and I am meant to kill her, I have little health, no medpacks and my team also has little health.

My team consists of Ashley and Benezia's daughter (whose name I forget), one of which gets put in stasis mode every single time.

There doesn't seem to be anywhere I can run to seek cover.

The closest I came was using the marksman ability and telling my team-members to attack Benezia and getting her down to a sliver of health before a commando killed me.

Suggestions?

edit: I am playing as an infiltrator.

Asked by m3tron0me

Answer

I had this problem when running through on Insanity. I ended up doing the following after many, many tries.

I ran away from Benezia, back toward where you come into the room. I also made sure that my squad was following me. There were some commandos there, and took them out using powers and the squads guns, and then made the left to that platform.

From there, I personally used my best long-ranged weapon and took out all enemies that could see me from there. Benezia was not one of them. Once I slowly and carefully picked off all enemies, allowing armor to regenerate between each, I then had my entire squad attack Benezia.

I also had the Unity power for all of this, but I don't think I used it at all during this battle once I figured out this tactic.

I think that the best thing you can do is try something other than take her on right away. Bide your time and take care of minions first. Use talents liberally (Shield Boost, etc.)

How do I defeat the Kayran in the first chapter of the Witcher 2?

Question

In the first chapter you are supposed to slay the Kayran, this enormous beast:

enter image description here

I'm having a hard time with it. I drank the Mongoose potion for poison resistance and I have the Kayran trap, but it just hits me too often with its tentacles. Especially when the Kayran swings a tentacle sideways, not from above, I have a very hard time evading it.

Is there any trick besides not getting hit by the tentacles?

With a lot of luck I'm getting as far as the point where it's throwing stones. Any idea what I'm supposed to do then?

Answer

After finally beating the Kayran, here are some tips on killing the beast.

You need to trap the tentacles using the Yrden sign (The 4 tentacles with the slightly glowing, thicker part). You can only trap the 4 rear tentacles with the glowing part, the front tentacles of the Kayran cannot be trapped!. If you crafted a Kayran trap, you can use that one for the first tentacle, the location is highlighted if you have the trap in your inventory. You need to place an Yrden trap at a location where the tentacle will hit the ground. The easiest way to achieve this is to stand in the same location as the trap, once the Kayran lifts its tentacles, immediately roll to the side. The tentacle will hit the trap and you can sever it.

Avoiding the tentacles is important, a direct hit can do a lot of damage. Watch the pattern, you'll quickly notice when the Kayran lifts its tentacles and it is time to evade. Sometimes it also hits you from the side with a tentacle, but I haven't found what triggers this attack. You also shouldn't stand directly in front of the Kayrans mouth, it can perform an attack that poisons you (if you didn't drink the Mongoose potion) and immobilizes you.

You can also use the Quen sign to protect yourself from damage, but you have to time the casting right or you'll just be hit by a tentacle while or shortly after casting it.

After severing the third tentacle you get a quicktime event (right click, repeated left clicks and space) which will cause parts of the old bridge to collapse. The Kayran now throws stones after you. You need to go to the left and go up the fallen down part of the bridge that now leads directly onto the Kayran. And then you've finished this fight. Don't forget to loot the Kayran for reagents and crafting material.

The Eye of Cthulhu disappeared after I reloaded the game. Is there a way to get it back?

Question

I was playing Terraria earlier, having just reached the Hell layer (~3000ft.) and after I killed one of those annoying imps, I got a message stating:

You feel an evil presence is watching you.

I read on the official Terraria Online forums that it means the Eye of Cthulhu is about to spawn at the surface. Unfortunately, after receiving the message, I saved the game and quit to look online for that message means (while still in Hell). When I reloaded the game and spawned at the surface, during night-time, Cthulhu wasn't there.

Is there any way to get the Eye back?

Answer

It is possible to spawn the Eye of Cthulhu by using a Suspicious Looking Eye.

This item needs to be crafted from 6 lenses. Lenses are occasionally dropped by Demon Eyes (the flying eyes that attack at night along with zombies).

Once you have collected 6 lenses you will need to find a Demon Altar in order to craft the Suspicious Looking Eye. You will probably have to do a bit of searching underground in order to find one of these if you haven't already found one.

Note that in order to summon the Eye of Cthulhu it must be night time. If dawn breaks while fighting the Eye, it will fly away to return the next night with full health.

What is the trick to the final boss fight in Uncharted 3?

Question

This may seem like a bit of a weird question, especially considering I beat the game on Crushing last night, but here goes...

What is the trick to winning the final boss fight against Talbot on the Crushing difficulty? While I did finally defeat him last night, it seemed due more to luck than skill. But there must be some pattern to it, or some sequence of events that must happen. However, it took me many, many attempts to finally overcome him, and during all these attempts I seemed to be getting a lot of successful hits, and fending attacks successfully. Some attempts I was fighting him for well over 3 minutes, but when I finally defeated him, it took just over 2.

In summary; I beat him, but I have no idea what the magic formula was that allowed me to do so.

Answer

Talbot's got a limited move set, and most of them involve quick-time events, for example:

  • He takes a swing at you, which you dodge and counter
  • Talbot pins your arm behind your back, where you bite his arm to get out
  • You and he cross arms, but he drops the knife into his other hand for a quick slash (this appears to be the trickiest one - you have to go from mashing the circle button to hitting triangle and you have a very short window in which to do so)
  • He knocks you down, and you kick him in the head to break his hold

Screwing up more than one of these in a row on Crushing seems to be a recipe for game over.

There's a particular pattern to when he goes for the final kill (and Sully shows up to take a shot) and I don't see much of a pattern about when this happens. It might just be a function of how much damage you do to him, as most of the videos I've seen where he goes down quickly, Nathan's always on the offensive, punching constantly when not involved in a QTE.

Here's a video of someone beating him on Crushing in about 2 and a half minutes, although there's no commentary or other prompts so it's tough to glean much information from it:

In Grubbins on Ice, how do I win the final battle against Araxia and Big Bones?

Question

I'm at what I'm pretty sure is the final battle of Costume Quest. But it seems impossible, for a number of reasons:

  • I'm up against 2 bosses simultaneously, with 4000 HP each.
  • Araxia can apparently decide to become invulnerable for several turns.
  • While Araxia merely hits hard, Big Bones hits like a truck, bringing the entire party down to critical levels in one attack.
  • Taking Big Bones out first doesn't seem to be possible because he can't be harmed, not even with area effects.

How do I win this thing?

Answer

Araxia's the only one you can harm, so ignore Big Bones. When Araxia's flying and invulnerable, hitting him will knock him back - this is important. Winning this fight hinges on pushing him into Big Bones' candy stream.

I found this strategy/build that will probably be helpful:

  • Attack costume - strongest attack stamp (Skeleton of the Wolf or such).
  • Yeti costume - strongest poison stamp.
  • Healer costume - Multi-Wing Bat stamp (full party regen).

With the above combo I attacked Araxia. After a few rounds of hitting him he will have candy fed to Big Bones, which will cause him to attack. You need to have the Yeti's shield up to avoid major damage. The damage increases every time Big Bones attacks, so you will be wiped out in a long battle no matter what.

(This strategy goes on to mention a bunch of things that I already said, but you can feel free to read it if you want the full picture :) )

How do you beat the boss in Keyboard Drumset Fucking Werewolf?

Question

How do you beat the boss in Keyboard Drumset Fucking Werewolf? I noticed two spots you can hit, his lower like organ and his upper unicorn head. I've never killed the unicorn head, but I am able to hit that lower organ. To beat it, do I just beat both the head and organ?

Answer

It seems like it will bite it as long as you take the head down. This guy seems to be doing pretty well by avoiding attacks and focusing on firing upwards at the unicorn head:

Can you attack Time Eater as Classic Super Sonic?

Question

It seems that I can only get close to and attack Time Eater as Modern Super Sonic. No matter how long I spend boosting as Classic Super Sonic, I can never seem to catch up with Time Eater. I can dodge all of the boss's counter-attacks, but that doesn't get Classic Super Sonic any closer for a hit.

Sonic's friends tell me that I can switch between the two Sonics in my pursuit, but while I'm playing as classic, they say to switch to modern in order to go after Eggman to attack.

Is attacking the boss only possible with Modern Super Sonic, and not Classic Super Sonic? Or is it possible to get close enough for a hit with either one?

The final blow does not count, as you have to combine the powers of both Sonics to blast through the fireball attack, and you also only do this in the modern 3D perspective anyway.

Research

  • This guide suggests that it's possible, "but it's extremely difficult." Not remarkably helpful, but still gets me thinking...

Answer

It is as you have said. It is possible to harm him as classic sonic, but after an hour trying myself, I found it rather difficult and as soon as I thought I was close enough, I'd have to switch back to 3D space. A good strategy I found while fighting this guy is to just hold the boost button in 3D space, then when he switches to 2D space, try to collect as many rings as possible as, to me, it is easier doing it in 2D space.

This video shows Time eater being defeated as 2D only, showing it's possibility.

How do you spawn an Eater of Worlds in an Artificial Environment?

Question

I'd like to build an Eater of Worlds arena but I'm confused regarding what his summon requirements are.

I see some arenas built entirely of wood. The wiki vaguely references corrupted dirt (how much?) and ebonstone (200+).

Answer

The Eater of Worlds must be spawned in a Corrupted environment. There are certain requirements of a number of Ebonstone blocks for an area to be considered Corrupted. I'm attempting to find the exact numbers, but I believe the 200+ is correct. When you're in a Corrupted environment, the music and background will change. By watching/listening for that, you can know whether you can spawn the Eater of Worlds.

Edit: Alright, looks like 200+ is correct.

Knights of Xentar final boss fight

Question

What is the most feasible way of defeating the final boss in Knights of Xentar? He is incredibly tough and even when I do some damage, he keeps healing himself at an incredible rate.

I've tried stacking on potions, throwing pretty much everything at him, weapons and spells alike, to no avail. Potions always run out and he's barely damaged because of the constant self-healing.

Answer

It certainly sounds terribly difficult - it seems like you're going to have to be particularly high level and have a TON of healing items if you hope to survive. Most of the strategies I've found are more a "war of attrition" than anything else.

Although, here's a YouTube video of someone defeating him in about 45 seconds:

How do I kill the enderdragon?

Question

I've been battling away at this thing for a while, I always end up dead. I'm assuming you need to use some kind of trick or tactic to beat it, any idea what I should be doing?

Answer

Ok, this seems to be the basics of the strategy required:

  • Destroy the Energy Crystals that are on top of the obsidian towers. Until this is done the Ender Dragon will keep regenerating at an impossible rate.

  • Kill it by shooting at it until it dies.

What do you do about running out of ammo in Borderlands?

Question

While playing Borderlands I have noticed that whenever there is a boss mission you generally have to go through an entire Sahara desert to reach him in his hideout. Along the way you have to kill everyone present. This is insane. The problem:

1) There is no option to buy more ammo once you are near the boss, so either you have to switch to a different gun or come back to start all the way to buy the ammo. Using a different gun isn't an efficient method because I'll be wasting the proficiency gain which I could use on my preferred weapon.

2) When I tried coming back all the way to the beginning, the game respawns all the monsters, so I had to kill them ALL while coming back. The reward chests, however, do not respawn.

3) I purchased ammo and started running towards the boss again but to my surprise the stupid monsters had respawned yet again.

4) This time I kept rushing forward but just near the boss I was surrounded and died. I went back to the starting point again.

I'm finding this extremely frustrating. How do I proceed in this area without resorting to cheats? The mission is Sledge: Battle For Badlands.

Thanks a load in advance.

Answer

I haven't played the game in a while, but if I remember correctly, enemies drop ammo fairly frequently. If it's not the right kind of ammo for the gun you're using, consider switching up guns. I remember I carried guns of 3 or 4 different classes with me at all times. You may not be as proficient with all of them, but at least you have something to use.

Use the guns you're worse with or that the enemies are dropping ammo for against the grunt enemies, and save the really powerful guns for the boss.

Gears of War 3 Horde Boss (Berserker)

Question

If I'm not mistaken, the only way to kill a Berserker in horde mode (or any mode for that matter) is with the Hammer of Dawn.

But what if you are playing on a map that doesn't have a native Hammer of Dawn? How do you kill a Berserker boss then?

Answer

The only way to kill a Berserker is NOT with a Hammer of Dawn.

Berserkers have a ridiculously thick skin that causes most weapons to do little or no damage, but a small amount of fire from a Scorcher causes its skin to become permeable to other weapons. Most of the time in horde, a free Scorcher will spawn during a Berserker boss wave - simply use it for a few seconds on a Berserker until its skin looks molten (black and orange), then use another weapon until its skin returns to normal. Repeat as necessary.

Grenades and other explosives will also damage a Berserker, even when its skin is normal, but they are still more effective after the application of a Scorcher.

How do I kill the second boss (Yelena Fedorova) in Deux Ex: Human Revolution?

Question

I have a heavy rifle with about 170 ammo, no grenades, no typhoon aug.

How do I kill her? I tried just putting all the heavy rifle ammo into her but she kills me before I can unload one clip.

Answer

There are lockers around the room with EMP grenades and ammo/weapons in them.

You can knock her out with the EMPs (though be careful to not knock your augmentations out at the same time) and then unload all you've got while she's paralyzed. Repeat as needed.

Try to always stay on the move and don't let her get close to you. You should be able to stay moving long enough to heal up in-between the "paralyze and shoot" rounds. I also recommend saving after each round, so you don't have to restart all the way from the beginning of the fight if things go sour.
