Does a Magic Mirror protect me against an Ice/Fire Storm?

Question

I'm not sure if a Magic Mirror will protect me againat an Ice/Fire Storm as these spells are not targeted on a player, but affect everybody in the circle, while a Fireball or a Lightning Bolt or a Magic Missile, etc. are targeted on a single player...

Answer

The mirror has no effect on spells which affect more than one person (such as Fire Storm).

Source: here

Full info about magic mirror :

Spells cast on a subject protected by this spell are reflected back upon the caster of that spell. When a spell is reflected the very internals of the spell is also affected, so that not only do the caster become the target, but the subject of the mirror also assumes the role of caster of the reflected spell.

The Magic Mirror protects only during the turn in which it was cast The protection includes spells like Magic Missile and Lightning Bolt but does not include attacks by monsters or stabs from wizards. In case of multiple mirrors in a melee, a Magic Mirror will not reflect any spells originating from the wizard that the mirror protects, because the magic of the spell then already will be present inside the mirror.

The mirror is countered totally if either a Counter Spell or Dispel Magic is cast on the subject in the same turn as the mirror. The mirror has no effect on spells which affect more than one person (such as Fire Storm). Two mirrors cast at one subject simultaneously combine to form a single mirror.

Does a Firestorm kill a Fire Elemental?

Question

If you invoke a Firestorm whenever an Fire Elemental is present, will the elemental be destroyed by that storm or does it feels comfortable about it?

And if he is destroyed, does it hit the mages on the turn he dies (i.e. Do you suffer 8 healht points if you're not protected against fire-ish spells : 3 from the elemental + 5 from the storm)?

Asked by Pierre

Answer

I think the rules are clear enought on this topic (i.e. I can understand them!)

FIRE STORM: It will destroy but not be destroyed by a fire elemental.

SUMMON FIRE ELEMENTAL: An elemental will also be engulfed and destroyed by a storm of its own type but, in such an event, the storm is not neutralized although the elemental still does not attack in that turn.

Can you get stalled in Firetop Mountain?

Question

During a recent game I almost got in a repeated position FP vs FP with my opponent, with a resulting Paralysis+Protection situation on both sides, but one of us broke away from that position just a turn before it became fully settled. Can the game get stalled in that position (or in another position)? what happens then? is it a draw or a potentially neverending match?

Asked by Yaztromo

Answer

A never-ending double paralyze can lead to a deadlock situation. Especially if the is an Elemental that both mages have to be protected from. So, Yes, it can turn into this :

FFF...
PPP...

for both mages.

Hopefully, 2 paralyze spells cast on the same target cancel each other, so by casting your own paralyze spell on you, you will cancel the other one.

And moreover (And this has been a rule modification to pit less power into paralyze spell), there is the fact that : if another enchantment spell (i.e. Amnesia, Confusion, Charm Person, Charm Monster or Fear) is cast on the same person as an paralyze spell, the other spell is "stronger" and the paralyze is cancelled on that turn. This could be used to break the FFF. (Amnesia is not a good choice ;-)
