What are the differences in The Baconing's gameplay respect to previous chapters?

Question

Like the title says, I would like to know which are differences in The Baconing's gameplay respect to previous chapters of DeathSpank.

Asked by Drake

Answer

There aren't that many gameplay differences, aside from balance changes like the availability of ranged weapons (compared to Deathspank 2) and more focus on combat over exploration and puzzle-solving. There's at least one entirely new feature, and another that feels new:

In this iteration, Deathspank has a shield which can be used to absorb damage and (if the block is perfectly executed) recharge your special power instantly. This does make the combat a bit more tactical, which might be a big deal considering how much more of it there is.

Some of the new Weapons of Justice have greater abilities than those in the last game, like calling in an airstrike (from a dragon, no less) or sending out subterranean spikes against your opponents.

How do I defeat the Nanny Demon in DeathSpank?

Question

Combat in DeathSpank has been pretty easy right up to meeting the Nanny Demon, then everything falls apart. I can get maybe one justice attack off before those fireballs annihilate almost all of my health, forcing me and Sparkles to retreat or end up back at the outhouse.

What's a good strategy for dealing with the Nanny Demon? I'm level 11 currently; did I wander into this situation way too early?

Answer

I had a hard time with the Nanny Demon, too - I agree that it seems much harder than the monsters that came before her.

I don't remember what level I was when I fought her, but I think I was a bit higher than that. Not sure, though.

Have you tried keeping your shield up while the fireballs are coming? IIRC, even if you aren't facing them with your shield up you should still take little to no damage. I did a combination of that, and lots of running around.

It can also be best to play it safe - don't keep attacking her if you don't think you'll survive for much longer. You would be much better off drinking a potion (or maybe eating food, if your dodging skills are up to the task).

Are there any items you can combine to make potions, food or equipment?

Question

Aside from combining items for quests and side quests, are there any items you can combine to make potions, food, weapons, et cetera? I remember obtaining anvils and glass bottles from enemies, but I have no idea what they are for. Any ideas?

Answer

I don't know of any thing you can combine to make the weapons and food.

I did find that you can use the anvil to make the cherries fall down off the tree (see this GameSpot forum post for details).

From what I've seen, nobody's been able to figure out what to do with the glass bottles.

Is it possible to enter the burning buildings in Pip Town?

Question

Is it possible to make DeathSpank go inside of the burning buildings inside of Pip Town? If so, what's in there? I kinda missed that part while playing through the game.

Answer

No, is not possible entering inside buildings in Pip Town.

The only thing you can do is blowing up the houses but your probably did already because, if I remember well, there was a sidequest connected to them.
