Where is Max hidden in Monkey Island 2?

Question

An ongoing in-joke in the SCUMM-based LucasArts adventure games was hiding Max (from the Sam and Max comic, then later Sam and Max Hit the Road) in the scenery. He was never (or almost never) something you could interact with, just a little easter egg.

Does anyone know where (if) he's hidden in Monkey Island 2, and whether or not his hidden visage is visible in the new Special Edition's graphics as well?

Asked by John Rudy

Answer

Costumes of Sam & Max can be found in the Costume Shop:

However, it seems that in the new version, they are replaced by a purple tentacle (from day of the tentacle), because LucasArts doesn't own the rights for Sam & Max anymore (forum source, for what it's worth). Apparently it was the same in the special edition of the first episode as well.

How much does the 'Notched Pickaxe' Improve Smithing?

Question

So I found this Easter Egg after reading Notch's (The creator of Minecraft) Twitter.

One of the stats is that it improves Smithing, however it does not state by how much. I can not seem to find any difference at all, when creating new armors and weapons.

Also, would it be worth disenchanting it, and apply the effect to more of my stuff?

Answer

I just climbed the world's tallest mountain for you. The pickaxe increases smithing by five.

It is not leveled loot, and does not stack.

What is 110813 in Minecraft?

Question

In the splash screen for minecraft, there are random quotes that come up. One is:

110813.

What does that mean?

Answer

This is a reference to the day Notch got married, August 13th, 2011.

The linked page has explanations for all of the splash screen text, should that interest you.

Is there actually a secret HAL room?

Question

I hear tell that there is a secret HAL room in this game. A room that has the HAL name in star blocks, as well as a set of Copy Essences.

This is supplemented by the ending credits, which includes a screenshot of the room in all its glory. As every other screenshot in the credits sequence is actual game footage, it seems fair to assume this is the case here as well.

Does this room truly exist, and if so, how do I find it?

Answer

That room is in 1-4. Go to the end of the first room in 1-4, go as far to the right as possible, past the door. Then go backtrack a bit, you'll soon find a new door. Now enjoy some cool stuff.

The other one is in 6-5. It isn't as hidden as the first one, but you have to pay attention or you'll miss it. Watch for ninjas and a hamburger at the end of the third screen, then press on up past the belts for an opening.

There's other secret rooms, but theses are the only two HAL rooms I've found.

Does collecting coins in Plants vs. Zombies play a song or just random notes?

Question

Playing in my Zen garden I sometimes collect 20-30 coins, and they tend to make very melodic tunes. Do the coins play the notes of a particular song or is a random note played each time? I've tried collecting them with different beats to reveal a song with no luck, maybe someone with a larger zen garden can figure it out?

Answer

I played the game to death, unlocking every single thing in it and I also tried to find a pattern to picking the coins up. From what I could tell, they're just different notes that link well together.

FPS game with Buffy the Vampire slayer easter egg

Question

I seem to recall this one FPS I played around 1999 - 2003 where there is a apartment room with a corpse lying face down with a stake at his back. And writing on the floor made by the dead man before dying with the word "Buffy" something something.

Here are some FPS I can recall during that period:

-Deus Ex
-Soldier of Fortune II
-Max Payne

Extra thanks for anyone who can provide a screen shot.

Answer

It's actually the game Max Payne, and here's the screenshot for you!

Easter Eggs in Portal/Portal 2

Question

Since Valve makes numerous games that are quite popular, I was wondering if anyone had a good resource for listing the Easter Eggs in Portal and Portal 2. I've seen some web pages that list a couple, but I have a feeling that they are incomplete. Has anyone compiled them all in one location?

Answer

Try searching the Half-Life Wikia for "Portal easter egg".

Addendum: The site will eventually move to http://combineoverwiki.net/
