Is it possible to trade Pokemon from the 1st generation games to the most recent ones?

Question

I know that you can trade Pokemon between games of the same generation (Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire) and even trade between 1st gen and 2nd gen. However, I haven't been able to find a way to trade Pokemon so that I can play with my 1st generation Pokemon in HeartGold, for instance. If it is possible, how many steps would it take and what equipment would I need?

Asked by Nick H

Answer

It can't be done. The limits on trading are as follows:

Generation 1 (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow)
↑↓ Both directions
Generation 2 (Gold/Silver/Crystal)
X Trade impossible
Generation 3 (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen)
↓ One-way only
Generation 4 (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver)
↓ One-way only, no items
Generation 5 (Black/White)

There are three main reasons you can't trade between Gen I/II and Gen III:

  1. The Pokémon data format changed significantly in Gen III, so the two are incompatible.
  2. The GBA link cable uses a different voltage to the Gameboy link cable. Even though a GBA can play old Gameboy games, it uses different circuitry than when playing GBA games, so the games' link cable functionalities are fundamentally incompatible.
  3. Even if these weren't an issue, Nintendo never released a product that allowed trade from one to the next.

Is it possible to receive a gift on Steam and put it in your inventory if you already own it?

Question

I own Portal.

As part of the sale that's going on, there is a lot of trading going on. I am trying to get a few things together to make a trade with another person.

A person sent me Portal via email. When I click on the link, where it would normally prompt me for what to do with the gift (library or inventory) I just go to my inventory page but nothing has changed.

The email it was sent to is the same as the address on the steam account.

Is this possible? I see nothing about it on the Steam forums. Anyone ever do this?

Answer

Currently, it isn't possible to add gifts sent to the recipient's e-mail address to the inventory if they're already owned. Sending gifts has recently been integrated into the Steam inventory, so this might be a bug that'll be sorted out at some point.

If you add the person as a friend, you still won't be able to send the item via send gift.

Trading it directly is the only option right now.

What happens when I trade away my Rotom formes?

Question

In Pokemon Platinum and HeartGold/SoulSilver, there are rooms where Rotom can possess household appliances to gain alternate formes. The appliance is removed from the room while Rotom is in that forme.

When I trade the Rotom away, does my Rotom's Room get its appliance back? Does this differ between versions of the game?

Answer

Yes. Rotom automatically reverts to its original form when traded.

Rotom's appliance forms are only available in Platinum, HG/SS, and B/W.

How is the default price of an item in GTM determined?

Question

When I try to sell an item through the Galactic Trade Market, some price is automatically assigned to the item. I can then change the price, but I think many players will keep the default one.

How is this price determined? Is it somehow based on the state of the economy on the server? Or is it a static price (maybe based on the price when selling the item to a vendor)?

Answer

It seems like the default buyout price is 450% of what a vendor will pay. Deposits vary from 22% of the vendor price (6 hours) to 68% (48 hours).

I have no evidence, but I would not imagine the price would vary.

What are Feltrite Crystals traded for in Rage?

Question

In RAGE, Fellix Hagar tells me that Feltrite Crystals are very rare and only to trade them for something I really want. They can be sold to a merchant for $25 each. Can they be traded for anything at all in the game, or should I just sell them immediately?

Answer

You can trade 20 of them to Jacob, he's in the bar in wellspring, for a defib upgrade (which means you can die one more time before a game over)

There is virtually unlimited feltrite in the game so selling a few doesnt matter. driving around the wasteland will occasionally activate missions automatically. One of the missions requires you to collect 7 falling feltrites, afterwhich you keep all 7. I just recently came across another one where it was "collect as many as you can in the time given" i got a whopping 15.

As far as any other use outside that 1 upgrade, I dont know of any.

Where can I find an item value guide for TF2?

Question

I have been ripped off a couple of times recently trading for hats and weapons in Team Fortress 2 - is there a price guide available anywhere that I can reference to stop this from happening?

Obviously I don't expect it to be perfect, the prices I get will differ from person to person, but even a general indicator would be helpful.

Answer

I don't know how often it's updated, but TF2spreadsheet seems reasonable (formerly located here).

Looking for an old space trading web game

Question

I am looking for an old space trading web game (I hope it still exists)

General description: You had a space ship and went system to system to trade goods. You could also make starbases too. There was different kinds of galaxies and wormholes. It took some kind of fuel to move around and you got large amount of fuel per day. It had a 'dynamic economy', every time you traded with a system, the prices would get worse. So you would have to move on and find different systems after several trades. I think it was a MMO game.

When I played it last: Sometime in the 90's I think

Platform: Web game. Very simple, text only, no graphics at all.

Interface: It usually showed a short line or two about the system you are currently in, a handful of common actions and a text box to enter commands(quicker way to play once you know all the commands).

Answer

Was it Trade Wars?

Where can an Orbital Weapons Platform be purchased?

Question

I've searched much of the galaxy, probably more than 100 sectors, but I haven't found any shipyards producing orbital weapons platforms.

I would love to get one of these to upgrade the defenses around my factories and to hold spare weapons and drones.

Can a player purchase or build a small, medium, or large orbital weapons platform?

Or are orbital weapons platforms only for the AI-controlled Core Sectors?

Answer

A quick look at the Egosoft forums turns up a few posts that indicate that it is not possible for the player to control an Orbital Weapons Platform - they cannot be purchased or captured.

However, there are also posts on the forum that indicate that mods or scripts can be used to add this functionality to the game, but I don't currently have the game available to test any of them and I'm not going to recommend any of them blind - but have a look around on the forum if that's something you're interested in trying.

How does one search for a trading good one doesn't have?

Question

For the Terrain story-line, in one mission the player has to deliver Teladianium to a Military Outpost. The only problem is that I'm not sure where to find Teladianium. The only trading post that has it is in Teladi space and they hate me from the last mission.

Where can I score some Teladianium in or near the Terrain Sectors?

Answer

Look in your in-game encyclopedia, under 'advanced' in the personal menu (the top button on the left).

Teladianium should be under "Bio". From there you will get a description, pricing information, and locations of where it is made, sold, and purchased.

The last three will only list places that you have found in your exploration.

More information here.

If that fails, there should be Teladianium in the sector Ceo's Buckzold.
