What are ammo boxes for?

Question

I've started up New Vegas, and exploited the shop glitch to get some caps. (SO glad they didn't fix that bug.) So I got some decent weapons and ammo, but saw some things in the shop that I wasn't sure what they were for.

Under Miscellaneous (not ammo), there were ammo boxes. They had weight. (I'm not playing in Hardcore mode, maybe my next playthrough.) They weren't in the ammo section.

If I were to buy ammo boxes, what can I do with them? Can I use them somehow to give myself ammo?

Asked by John Rudy

Answer

Ammo Boxes are essentially a source of cheap bulk ammo. If you'll notice, each one mentions that it's a particular kind of ammunition. If you buy an Ammo Box, drop it on the ground, and then interact with it (Not sure if there's a smoother way to do this, but it's how I figured it out), you'll get a whole lot of ammunition. For reference, the box of Bulk Energy Cells sold by Chet in Goodsprings contains 100 cells. Unfortunately, being Bulk ammo, each one does 85% of normal damage. Good enough for cash-strapped Couriers, but far from ideal.

Also, be sure to distinguish Ammo Boxes from Ammo Cases - the latter are weightless, and are used in crafting for the production of new and specialty ammo.

Minecraft Inventory Items moving strangely

Question

Recently I've been using the SE Gaming Minecraft server a lot, and today when I tried to craft watermelons into seeds, I discovered that they wouldn't move to the crafting table when I clicked them, they moved to my quick-use bar, then moved back to my inventory when I clicked them again. I checked my Shift key, and it was not compressed, so that's not the problem. What is the problem?

Asked by Portali5t

Answer

I know you checked your shift key, but 1 explanation would be that you pressed shift multiple times resulting in an affect called sticky keys. One way to remove it is press shift repeatedly until your computer has a pop up message. Then you have to press cancel or something.

Sorry if this isn't specific enough. And please don't edit as to steal my credit.

In Diablo 3, while in the cathedral, what can I do with a full inventory?

Question

I;m in the cathedral in Diablo 3. There doesn't seem to be any way back to town, and the concept of a "town portal" seems to have been removed from the game.

But my inventory is full and I'm only on the first level of the cathedral - what can I do about it? I don't want to just leave things.

Asked by Jasarien

Answer

There is a town portal in diablo 3 it is unlocked when you find the leoric's crown I believe that is where you are headed...also you might stumble upon new waypoint or if you are in dead end dungeon there are stones that can portal you back to the entrance.

You will have to continue and and chose what you will pick up.Also it is only beta so it doesn't really matter if you miss on 50 gold since it will all be gone and you cant go much further in gameplay.

Can I store stuff at the Goodsprings Schoolhouse?

Question

It's still a bit early for me to have my own home in New Vegas, but at the same time I don't want to carry everything around all the time -- kind of puts a damper on how much loot you can bring back!

Is it safe to store my loot in the Goodsprings schoolhouse? Will it stay, or will it eventually disappear after x amount of in-game time or x number of save/load cycles?

Asked by John Rudy

Answer

In New Vegas, as in Fallout 3, if a container is marked 'respawn' the contents will be overwritten every 3 in-game days with whatever is the default for the container type. This is why it's generally unwise to leave anything you may want to save in a random container.

However all the containers in the Goodsprings Schoolhouse are not marked as respawning containers, so it should be safe to store any excess loot there.

How many empty bottles are in Skyward Sword?

Question

Most Zelda games have around 4 empty bottles for Link to use. How many are in Skyward Sword?

Answer

According to this guide, there are only 5.

Bottle #1

As soon as you have your Sword and Shield in hand, head on over to the Bazaar in the middle of Skyloft and speak with Luv, the owner of the Potion Shop, and she will inform you about her potions. After noticing that you don’t have one, she will provide you with an Empty Bottle that she was storing.

Bottle #2

When you enter the temple at the Sealed Grounds for the first time, before speaking with the old woman at the top of the stairs, look over to the right of the stairs. Here you will find a small brown chest, and inside will be your second Bottle, prefilled with Revitalizing Potion.

Bottle #3

Bottle #3 can be obtained by completing the Missing Sister side quest, which becomes available after completing the Lost Child side quest. (The Lost Child quest should be completed ASAP as it unlocks the ability to perform additional side quests that yield great rewards that will be extremely helpful throughout the rest of the game.

Bottle #4

Once you obtain the Mogma Mitts in the Fire Sanctuary, Head back to the first floor. Locate the circular room in which you can now dig underground. Take Link underground and hit the switch to open the gate above you; this will open a new path filled with water plants. Use the switch nearby in order to open more gates and poke one of the water plants to skewer it with your sword. Head through the gate and make a right. Kill the Magmanos (slash to toss the water plant at it, then slash the Magmanos itself); this will lower the lava level giving you access to a new path which ends with a chest containing your fourth Empty Bottle.

Bottle #5

This bottle is located inside a Goddess Cube Chest that becomes available after striking a Goddess Cube in the Eldin Volcano. This cube cannot be reached or seen until the second trip to this location.

Is it possible to receive a gift on Steam and put it in your inventory if you already own it?

Question

I own Portal.

As part of the sale that's going on, there is a lot of trading going on. I am trying to get a few things together to make a trade with another person.

A person sent me Portal via email. When I click on the link, where it would normally prompt me for what to do with the gift (library or inventory) I just go to my inventory page but nothing has changed.

The email it was sent to is the same as the address on the steam account.

Is this possible? I see nothing about it on the Steam forums. Anyone ever do this?

Answer

Currently, it isn't possible to add gifts sent to the recipient's e-mail address to the inventory if they're already owned. Sending gifts has recently been integrated into the Steam inventory, so this might be a bug that'll be sorted out at some point.

If you add the person as a friend, you still won't be able to send the item via send gift.

Trading it directly is the only option right now.

Config setting for the threshold between single/multiple item handling?

Question

You know this slider that appears when you try to handle a stack of more than five items in the inventory?

I find that repeating the "Store" or "Sell" key is easier and faster to use, and really don't need the slider until I have a stack of 20 items or so. It's really cumbersome to use this slider when you want to dump half your stacks of potions and whatnot to your house.

Would it be possible to change the threshold at which it appears, through a config file or maybe the console?

Answer

To anyone else who may be wondering, it appears to be a hardcoded variable in the ActionScript code for the interface.

See line 24 of InventoryDefines.as (courtesy of the SkyUI code repo):

static var QUANTITY_MENU_COUNT_LIMIT: Number = 5;

I haven't found a config setting that matches. It is possible to recompile the code as a mod though...

UPDATE: It works! If you really want to change this you'll need Adobe Flash CS5 (ActionScript 2.0). I have zero experience with Flash so did this mostly out of curiosity. Figured it would be too minor a change to put on SkymrimNexus.

Thanks to the hard work of the SkyUI mod team, you can republish directly from the .fla files. They went through all the flash files, decompiled them with Trillix (my guess) and cleaned /fixed the code as a working basis for the SkyUI mod. You can find the "un-modded" version of the game interface code in the vanillasky branch.

For this particular interface tweak, you'll want to edit InventoryDefines.as as described above. Then open itemcard.fla in Flash, and republish. Note that you'll have to provide the fonts (search on SkyrimNexus). Place the file in the Skyrim Data folder:

<Skyrim folder>/Data/Interface/inventory components/itemcard.swf

I've tested in game successfully with a limit of 10 instead of 5, trading with an innkeeper, my follower and interacting with a chest. Can't guarantee that it is 100% stable as that would require much more thorough testing ("ItemCard" appears during enchanting, alchemy, and a lot of other things).

Skyrim Personal Chest Sorting?

Question

I have purchased the home in Whiterun and been storing a bunch of items in my chest in that home. I noticed that that chest only has one category where is shows everything instead of like my regular inventory which has weapons, appeal, food, books, etc... My question is if there is a way to get that type of categories with a personal chest or if a different chest that I can use for storage has this feature? It is just annoying that if I want to start doing alchemy with everything I have collected, I have to go through every single item and see if it is an ingredient for alchemy instead of going to the ingredient category and easily getting each one of them.

Answer

Not in the base game.

Your only real option is to self-sort. Luckily, your house in Whiterun has multiple chests (when fully upgraded), including a chest near the alchemy station, so at the very least you can store certain items in certain chests to keep things straight and ordered.

How is the inventory of a spouse's shop determined?

Question

[ Look down for TL;DR ]

Since I married Mjoll the Lioness recently she's set up shop in my home and it seems like the merchandise she sells varies greatly depending her current location/actual inventory. I traded her things like dragon scales/materials and checked her shop to find those materials listed there as well.

If this is the case, I guess my real question is are the items that are listed in her store my items? and will they ever be sold or "disappear" somehow without my consent or knowledge? I really don't want to find out that valuable items/weapons/armor I spent a long time acquiring ended up being the "deal of the week."

TL;DR Are items in my spouse's shop mine and will they ever be sold against my will?

Answer

If your spouse was a merchant before you married them, they will sell the same goods they would normally. If not, they will sell pawnbroker-type goods and (reportedly) loose items you leave in their inventory. They will not sell items you leave around the house.

Their inventory "refreshes" like other shopkeeper inventories, so don't sell them something you are planning to buy back later.

Is there a limit to the number of item in inventory?

Question

I'm wondering if there is a limit to the weight one's character can have in it's inventory. In the character status page I can see that there is a limit to the weight of the equipment, but I don't find one for the inventory. Can I carry each and every item I find?

If there is a limit, what is it? Where can I find it? Does it depends on character's stats (strength)? Is there a NPC that can store the items I want to keep, but can't carry?

Answer

The only limit on your inventory is that you can only hold 99 copies of each stackable item.

Avoiding encumberance in New Vegas

Question

Lately while playing Fallout New Vegas, I've found myself lugging far more equipment than I need. As a result, I'm always either overloaded and can't fast travel or sprint.

When I started playing Fallout 3, I discovered that there was far more junk in the Wasteland than I could possibly carry, and the game changed from A Post-Nuclear Roleplaying Game to A Post-Nuclear Inventory Management Simulator.

I promised myself that I wouldn't let this happen in New Vegas, but sure enough, I've reached level 7 and I'm consistently running into encumberance problems.

Part of this is because I grew up playing Thief: The Dark Project and I have a kleptomaniacal urge to steal every item from every area, but even without the misc crap, my weapon and armor loadout usually takes up more than 3/4 of my character's max weight. I've started leaving caches of equipment at various locations in the Wasteland (in whatever containers happen to be available) rather than always be slowed by lugging it all.

Is caching equipment the most effective solution (before I get the Travel While Encumbered perk) or is there a better way to avoid encumberance in New Vegas?

Answer

The single most important thing to remember is that you do not need most of this junk. And I'm not even talking about the 300 year old Blamco Mac & Cheese or enough liquor to drown the Strip.

I'm talking all those Merc _ Outfits, the 7 Metal Armors those raiders were wearing, the 9 Tire Irons... you don't need them, and they don't sell for enough caps to make the trip back to town worth your time.

Once you get to the Strip and clean out a few Casinos, you'll never need caps again, and you can focus your looting on things which are useful and hard to buy - rare weapons, Ammo, chems, crafting components (that you actually use), and things which may as well be cash like Pre-War Money, Cigarettes, and other high value, low weight commodities.

Other tricks include: using companions as pack mules, and using Mojave Express drop boxes to ship all your junk to one location (I'm fond of Primm) for later pickup and resale.

Is there a safe place to stash items in Hengsha?

Question

I've recently moved onto the second major hub area in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. So far, I haven't come across anyplace as safe as my apartment in Detroit. I don't feel like lugging a rocket launcher with me everywhere - is there a safe place I can stow extra gear, or can I drop it anywhere and it'll be there when I return later?

Answer

I'm not sure your apartment in Detroit is safer than any other non-restricted area. If anything, your apartment is a worse place to store items since its out of your way most of the time.

I'm not 100% sure if they will be remain when moving from city to city.

Can I store items in my apartment?

Question

After finishing a couple of quests, you are directed to go to your apartment. If I have items in my inventory that I want to keep but don't want to carry around with me everywhere, is it safe to stash these items somewhere in my apartment?

In Fallout 3, shortly into the main quest there you also gain access to your own house, where the game indicates that it is safe for you to keep items there. Does your apartment in Deus Ex: Human Revolution work the same way?

Answer

Yes you can. I dropped a few things in the apartment the first time I dropped by. A few locations later and a trip back to Detroit and those items are still there.

Be mindful that you don't always have access to the apartment though.

Can I carry more than two weapons at once?

Question

I'm playing DNF...I know it isn't that good that it supposed to be, but I loved Duke Nukem 3D. My problem is that I can only have 2 weapons on me. What a nonsense. Duke can fire 5 weapons at the same time while kicking and moving.

So do you know any workaround here to be able to have more than 2 weapons?

Answer

You can have four weapons - two guns, tripmines, pipebombs.

Since you're on the PC version, somebody might mod it at some point to let you have more than two guns. Maybe some of the trainers that are out could provide a workaround .
