Guild Wars trial key is full of X's and doesn't work

Question

I got a Guild Wars trial key by clicking the free trial button on their website, however, it's full of X's, and trying to plug it into the game doesn't work. I'm really not sure what to do - I can't seem to obtain the full trial code. I checked my email but didn't see any emails from guild wars.

Any ideas? Am I missing something really obvious?

This is the client that I downloaded.

Answer

If you look closely at the nearby text, you can see that the trial code has already been used on the account. Most of the code is X'ed out, because it now just serves to let you distinguish between different codes you may have applied at some point.

You don't need to enter the code again, you should be able to simply start up the game and play.

Answer

The serial code has already been applied to your NCSoft account. The reason it is full of X's is because they obfuscate full codes on your account details. Since the key is already applied, you should now be able to log into Guild Wars using the email and password you have chosen for the account.

The email will likely be the email associated with the NCSoft account (what you've scribbled out, though this may be different) and your password may or may not be the same as your NCSoft Master Account, depending on what you have chosen. You control the passwords for your Master Account and your Guild Wars account separately, so if you cannot log in using your NCSoft Master Account details, it's likely because they are different than your Guild Wars account itself.

How do I recover lost achievements?

Question

A few weeks ago my cousin recover his GamerTag in my Xbox-360 since we were playing Xplosion Man in at my place, and he wanted to get the achievements. Some time after, he started playing Red Dead Redemption at his place (and in his Xbox), getting almost all the achievements. Since his Gold membership had expired he didn't bother to recover his GamerTag in his console, but when he finally did, all the achievements he had gotten on Red Dead Redemption were lost.

Is there any way to get them back? His game files are ok, so now it looks like he has 100% of some stuff but no achievements to go with them.

Answer

Ok, if you are not connected to xbox live when you earn an achievement that achievement is stored on your local box.

If you then go and recover your gamer tag to a new box, the new box (and live.xbox.com) won't show those achievements. To have your achievements unified across all media you need to sign the box that earned them back into xbox live on that account.

Recovering your gamertag is a special processes where your gamertag is transfered to a new box and retroactively removed from all other boxes. Because you removed it from his old xbox before updating that achievements, you necessarily lost your ability to update those achievement.

I'm sorry, but you should always connect to xbox live whenever possible if you want to maintain your achievements. God forbid your box red rings and you lose all your work.

I'm moving to another country. Should I take my Xbox 360 or buy a new one there?

Question

I'm about to move to UK from Poland and would like to know if it's better to buy a new one over there or take mine with me.

Main aspects:

  • UK have different power sockets, but adapters are available
  • Voltage is 230V in both countries
  • What about my Xbox Live account? It's registered for Poland.
  • Is there anything more to it?

Answer

Some of the answers to my question here might be of interest - although I have moved from UK to Australia

Can I use my Battlefield 2142 account to play Bad Company 2 multiplayer?

Question

I had a blast playing Battlefield 2142 and all this recent hype for Battlefield 3 made me go out and get Bad Company 2 for PC. I've tried logging in to BC2 multiplayer with my old 2142 account, but the BC2 interface uses an email instead of the plain username that 2142 accounts used.

Can I convert my BF2142 account into a BC2 account?

Answer

Yes and No - yes you can use your old EA account to play BF2 and no you cannot connect with your 2142 account. Before there were 2 accounts: EA account for game-support etc and 2142 account to log in the game. Now it is just one - EA account (your email address is used a login).

You can access battlefield veteran page and use your 2142 account to get a veteran status for your EA account.
