Is there any benefit for having animals spawn on the islands?

Question

I think I closed the window that explained it too quickly, but I read that after you are able to expand the vegetation through some percentage of the land, animals come to the island and stay to live there.

Is there any benefit for this? Or is it simply aesthetic?

Answer

If your coverage is at a certain percentage (I think around 50%, and later again at around 100%) you unlock new memories.

What language does the narrator speak in From Dust?

Question

Is it any specific language? The people themselves and their culture seem to be intentionally generic.

Answer

The language you hear the tribes speaking in From Dust is a mix of Swahili and Malay languages.

How to deal with natural disasters?

Question

I just started playing From Dust, and I find it rather clunky to control. While building a bridge as part of the objective, my villagers will randomly start drowning, my village will randomly get hit by a tsunami, lava will pour down the mountaintop, or any number of unfortunate things may happen. I want to help my villagers, but only seem to hurt them.

What am I doing wrong, or what can I do more effectively to help my villagers?

Answer

Volcanos and tsunamis are the natural forces of the game that you must learn to deal with. For either, you can create walls with lava (or lesser ones with dirt) to either redirect the flow of the undesired element, as in the second tsunami level.
