Is it worth it to have resilience for rogues when fighing healers?

Question

Simply put:

I play on 4.0.6 and I noticed that in a 1v1 vs healers, if I don't kill them in the time period of stuns/silences they manage to get a heal (especially paladins). After the heal, I will most likely not be able to kill them. They can then slowly kill me as a I recuperate.

So my question is: Is it a better idea to change some of my PvP items that give resilience with some PvE items that don't give resilience but other stats that improve my damage (such as hit rating, etc.), since if I don't kill them within the crowd control time I'm done for anyway.

Asked by Fofole

Answer

Simply put, ressilience lowers the amount of damage you take from enemy players, increasing your chance to survive counterattacks by any enemy who is no longer CC'ed, so I'd say, Yes ressilience is still important when fighting against a healer.

You could swap out some Res gear for extra dps or what have you, but frankly a superior player would likely benefit more from taking less damage rather than doing more. It gives you more time to adjust to the battle, survive until your next important cooldown, or otherwise take advantage of a key point in the situation.

What is the optimal Tech I sub-capital ship and fit to defeat an Amarr Interceptor?

Question

Recently, my two-person corp has been war-deced by a one man corp run by xManBearPiggx who often attacks with either of the Amarr Interceptors (or occasionally with a Catalyst).

To my great shame he's been able to take out a couple of my cheap cargo frigates. So I've decided to hunt or ambush my assailant. The only problem is that I'm about a year behind my opponent in character skills, so I can't really use tech II or higher ships or fits.

But what I lack in character skills I can make for with a large trade income, so I'm trying to figure out how to buy my way out of this problem. I'm not rich enough that I could afford faction ships, but I can afford just about any Tech I ship. Also, I have a fair mixture of combat and piloting skills so it wouldn't take long to train for any of the Tech I ships.

So I'm wondering what is the optimal fit to take on a pirate in an Amarr Interceptor with tech 2 dual light pulse lasers?

Asked by Mark Rogers

Answer

Unfortunately, it is difficult to give you a definitive answer given that situations vary so much in EVE, all you can do is try to stack cards in your favor.

Some things to consider though:

  1. Interceptors survive on speed, get a Warp Scrambler, hopefully you can use it (possibly overheated) to turn off their MWD which will lend you a huge advantage.

  2. Remember Lasers do EM and Therm damage only, tank for it

  3. Amarr are armor tanks, which makes them vulnerable to Kinetic/explosive. He probably doesn't have that much to plug that hole.

  4. Personally I would look into destroyers, they hit hard, recently were buffed, and fit with tracking mods can probably hit the quick bastard.

  5. Failing that, get friends, or starve him until he goes away.

What would be the most ideal rotation for frost mage pvp?

Question

I know in pvp situations change drastically on certain factors so we wont start a discussion on how to be a better pvper. But something that would give me a better idea of what I should be focused on while pvping would be, in the most ideal situation what would be the best rotation for a frost mage. Basically all cool downs are ready to go, enemy player hasn't seen you yet and there are no other enemies around to bother you.

My current rotation is basically pet nova, frostbolt/ice lance, frostbolt/ice lance, blink if they have gained ground, more frostbolt.

I don't seem to be able to nuke down them fast enough compared to other players I have watched.

I'm looking for the most ideal rotation for nuking down players.

Thank you.

Answer

It's also going to depend on the class that you're attacking. Personally, I wouldn't start with the pet nova just b/c I always use that as a good "oh s!@#" button mid-fight (at least against melee - vs casters I wouldn't bother unless I had a melee ally trying to beat his face in - and really only if it's an aff lock).

I think another thing to keep in mind is that frost mages aren't "nukers" - they're kiters. In a race against another caster though, depending on spec & gear it could be a number of different things -- my suggestion is to hit up a training dummy and feel out your toon. I look at my shaman as a perfect example of the difference in play style you get outta gear: before I had spell haste I needed ghost wolf and grounding totem, after I had haste I needed grounding totem =]

At the end of the day, I'd say before learning how to dps as a frost mage, learn how to escape and evade. Frost mages are KING at that. You learn that, you won't have to deal crazy dmg to come out the victor.

Hope that helps!

How does the Bolster effect in Warzones work?

Question

In SWTOR, if you enter a PvP Warzone and are below level 50, your character is automatically "Scaled" to level 50 with a buff called Bolster - but how does that work numbers wise? Are you base stats set to level 50 base stats but the equipment doesn't effect it? Do your stats get multipled in a formula, something like newStat = currentStat*(50/currentLevel)? Anyone have the specifics?

Answer

Pre-release the best formula thrown around was roughly described as follows:

If you are ‘naked’ in a bracketed match then you will be up to a 90% combat stats disadvantage. If you are in an open match then the bolster mitigates the difference, not the whole. In other words, you will be at about a ((your level/max level) * 80%) + 10% combat stats disadvantage. Note that formula is an oversimplification for illustrative purposes.

Link for this is here: http://www.swtor-life.com/humor/under-the-hood-the-forumulas-behind-the-mayhem/2268/

I would imagine the actual formula is much more complex to take gear into account, however, practice seems to show that "twinked" 50s gear allows a huge advantage, so, the formula, when it comes to light, is not one for the mind-bending math junkies.

What does selecting a Most Valuable Player in a Warzone do?

Question

After finishing a Warzone match, you can vote which of the players of your team is a Most Valuable Player.

How do the votes work? And what is the reward for being voted a MVP?

Answer

Each vote gives the player an extra 5 warzone commendations.

Votes are given by players to other players based on their performance (or whoever they feel like).

To address Mufasa's comment/question:

You can only vote for your own team.

You cannot vote for yourself.

Again, you can only vote for your own team.

Sometimes the UI bugs out at the moment and you won't see the little shield icon to vote, just hit CTRL+UU and it will reload your UI and let you vote.

How should I spend my points and acquire gear?

Question

I'm pretty sure there are plenty guides out there about Honor Points, but I want a very simple and short advice from an experienced player to who's looking for it the first time.

Should I just save honor points and buy stuff only when I get to level 80, or should I go and try to buff up on lower levels?

What about on level 70 - does it worth going BG all the way to gather HP and buff up the equips, both for leveling and for more fun at BGs all the way till 80?

How many points do we need on each level (starting at 79, then 69, 59, and so on) to have the best gear avaiable for PvP?

I think HP gear is only worth for PvP since the gear we get for PvE from doing PvE is already good enough.

Answer

OK, questions has been asked many times.

Here is what you do while leveling:

Do Battlegrounds, as A) It gets you honour but B) It now gets you experience points for completing objectives which means your "killing 2 birds with one stone" as the expression goes.

DO NOT spend your Honour Points whatever you do. Wait until you get to level 80. Even when you get to level 80, do not spend them, as you wont have nearly enough for what you need.

Once you reach level 80, there are several things you need to do. Firstly I would suggest not going to BG as you will get destroyed. Instead doing your HC's and getting PvE gear. Once you have decent PvE gear, you can start doing things Like VoA which allows you to gain your PvP gear. Also with decent PvE gear you can half decently play PvP BG, although with no resilience you are bound go get done.

Once you have accumulated the Honour Points you need, start buying your PvP gear. First of, you want to get the set bonus that gives you 100+ resilience, this is two items. If you want to do PvP you need to get this quickly, therefore you need to get the cheapest two items, (normally shoulders and hands if I remember correctly). Once this is done you are good to keep adding, once you have your 100+ resi, you'll find it much easier to do PvP but not that wrathful gear is out, our still going to struggle.

Additionally what you want to do is gain Sons of Hodir reputation to allow you to get the head enchant for when you get your head.

REMEMBER: Always gem and enchant your itmes with the best you can possibly get as soon as possible.

What's up with Outlaw's Den?

Question

I've visited Outlaw's Den on Tatooine. It's an open PvP area and according to an article I've found from before the release, it should contain rare gathering nodes and also chests containing commendations.

The place contains no such thing. I didn't find any chests there or gathering nodes. Why is that? Is there any reason to go there now or in the future? (Other than visiting the only GTM kiosk on the planet, while fearing that you are going to be killed while trading.)

Answer

Per the link (provided by Krazer) to the official forums:

Amending the patch notes: The chests containing commendations and credits in Outlaw's Den have had their respawn timer increased dramatically or respawn at a speed correspondent to the amount of players in Outlaw's Den.

EDIT: Actually these chests have been removed entirely as well as all resource nodes from Outlaw's Den and Ilum.

This apparently was done because of players exploiting the area to grab more high-end resources than the devs were expecting.

Hopefully, they will fix the previous system's exploits and reintroduce loot to the area. But yes, for now the area is only for your own PvP fun. No in-game loot rewards are available in that area at this time.

What are the differences in Ragnarok PvP on Private Servers and Retail Servers?

Question

I've heard that it's better on private servers from some friends but this conflicts with me as a WoW player. In WoW, it's common knowledge that PvP on retail is better than on private server.

What are the differences between PvP on private and retail servers?

Answer

If what you're looking for is a balanced PvP, probably the retail server wins. However, Ragnarok is highly dependant on gear, cards etc, so basically the older the player is on the server, the better he is on PvP, considering equal skill. On retail, that difference can be huge (like a royal guard with Tao Gunka card); on private servers maybe that don't matter so much, because getting gear/cards is easier (again, depends on rates).

Usually, private servers have smaller communities, and the PvP is more personal, with friends, allies, vendettas etc. In retail, with more people, there's more battlegrounds, it's less to-the-heart PvP.

Transitioning to PvP in EVE

Question

Incarna has dragged me back into EVE from a long hiatus. When I played before, I was a total carebear miner. I want to start fresh and get into the world of PvP, but I'm unsure of where to start.

I've tried some of the combat mission lines, but they're geared towards completely new players. I just park my cruiser and wait for my drones to take out the enemies while I get a snack. Needless to say, this is extremely boring. It's just as bad as the high-sec mining I used to do!

I feel as if I'm "supposed" to join a corporation to get trained somehow, but I would really rather be a solo pilot. I don't think most corporations will take very kindly to me joining just to get some free tips and tricks, and then promptly leaving.

Charging into low-sec with a cheap ship feels like a suicide run, and I don't think I'll actually learn anything from it.

In short, what's the best way for a long-time EVE player to get into PvP?

Answer

If you don't want to join a PvP corporation that teaches newbies, such as Agony Unleashed, then take courses from them. They offer excellent training courses for non-members (for a fee), highly recommended.

Alternately, join Eve University, and take PvP courses, both from E-Uni, and Agony. There's no skill requirement for E-Uni, it's for training total newcomers. (Minor note, they are frequently at war, when recruiting is closed, so it may take time to join - but it's worth it). The Uni is generally considered a transitional corporation, most people leave it after they feel they're proficient, for other corps.
