LA Noire: Do you get any bonus for 100% Completion?

Question

Simple question, really. Do you get any bonus for 100% Completion in LA Noire? GTAIV unlocked certain things, as I remember, once you'd gotten 100% (although nothing you couldn't use cheat codes to get). Is there anything different in the game once you've unlocked 100% completion in LA Noire?

Thanks.

Answer

If you are playing the game on Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, you unlock the achievement/trophy called "The City of Angels".

Other than this, no, you do not unlock any bonuses for completing the game, unlike in GTAIV.

Is there anything one can do in a car without a police radio in LA Noire?

Question

I recently completed the main storyline of LA Noire, and now I am still playing it to roam the streets and take on the random street crimes that happen.

There are hidden special cars in garages scattered throughout the game, as well the ability to pretty much walk up to any car and commandeer it. When you drive a new car, you are given a little notice that tells you that you've "unlocked" a new car.

However, since only police cars have radios, you won't come across any street crimes. So you can only drive around in them, but LA Noire isn't really set up to have any challenges that are based on driving. As far as I can tell, you literally just drive around a bit in them.

Since I finished the game without ever even knowing hidden cars existed, and only once commandeered a car (and I don't think it was strictly necessary in that situation), I'm not sure I understand why I would want to ever drive any car other than a police car.

Is there anything a player can do with a non-police car? Are they just for "collecting" and that's it?

Asked by Dave M G

Answer

There's nothing special to do with regular cars other than collecting them, but you can always use the map to find new or completed street crimes, the radio only lets you to mark a crime on the minimap without opening the map. New crimes will be red, the crime you've marked will be yellow, and completed crimes available for replay will be gray.

Should I only get unsolved street crimes in Free Play?

Question

I'm currently on the Homicide desk but have returned to Traffic in free play mode in order to finish all the street crimes.

However, I'm still being given street crimes that I definitely remember solving. I thought the game would know which crimes you've solved and give you new ones - forcing me to replay things doesn't make sense. Is this meant to happen?

I usually solved the cases with liberal application of bullets, if that makes any difference.

Answer

The dispatcher will give them to you (I believe) randomly, so you will be asked to return and replay crimes that you've already solved. There's no benefit to doing so, however.

Although sometimes you can fail a street crime, you'll be told you've failed and given the option to retry it. It does not matter (in most cases) if you kill the perp or capture them. In fact, in most cases killing them is the only option.

How can I tell which street crimes I have solved?

Question

Related to my other question about street crimes in Free Play mode - how can I see my progress on street crimes for each desk? I couldn't see anything in the Free Play menu when I chose a desk, and the in-game statistics just show a total out of 40.

I was wondering if there was a way to double-check that I was indeed being given the same street crimes a second times, rather than, say, a bug/other issue where my progress wasn't saved.

Answer

I don't know if you can tell from the case selection screen, but when you're in Free Play mode, you can check the map. Street crimes you've solved are shown as gray icons (I believe they look like a person walking) on the map. If all you see is gray icons, you've done all the street crimes for that desk.

If you see one you haven't done, you can set it as your waypoint, and then you'll get that crime immediately - without having to wait for the dispatcher to work its way around to that one. This really helps if there's just one or two crimes left to go on a desk, or if there's a set of them close together that you'd like to tackle as a group.

This guide seems to back me up, and also makes note of a couple of other caveats:

How do you know which ones you have completed?

The ones you've completed show up as grey on the map and the ones you havent will be red. Free roam shows all available street crimes at that time frame [whereas] in-story only shows when [you're] in the vicinity.

Do you miss distress calls if you let your partner drive?

Question

Letting your partner drive has obvious advantages (shorter rides, no chance to do damage). But are there any negative aspects to it?

Do you for example still get the distress calls during missions?

Answer

Yes, you "miss" distress calls if your partner drives as this is pretty much a "fast travel" option. You will also miss out on finding landmarks of importance.

I have no idea if this is made up for later on in the game if you decide to ignore all of them on a case by case level (as in if you choose to miss 1 distress call does it get moved to the next case?).

Yes, you still get distress calls during missions. Think of it this way, when you are on a case, no matter what part of that case you are up to, you are still in the mission. When I last played the cases seemed to be "spaced out" in the sense that you could only get 1-2 distress calls per case. It could have been my luck though!

What are Film Reels in LA Noire?

Question

I'm over 60% done with the game but I still have 0/50 "Film Reels" (as shown in the Statistics page). What / Where are Film Reels?

Answer

Film Reels are well-hidden collectibles, that are scattered around the game. This is what you are looking for
What you are looking for

You could spend hours and hours of searching and looking the 50 reels, or you could use this guide that shows the location of all the films.

What is the difference between Doubt and Lie?

Question

When interrogating people in LA Noire, the marker between truth and non-truth is pretty obvious. However, I can't tell how to distinguish between choosing Doubt and Lie. When does it make sense to choose one or the other?

Answer

Lie: I KNOW you are lying and here is how. Present evidence to go along with it.

Doubt: I THINK you are lying (based on how you are reacting or by instinct).

L.A. Noire on Xbox 360 or PS3

Question

I'm trying to decide whether I should buy L.A. Noire for Xbox 360 or PS3.

1) Is there a comparative review between the versions on the two consoles?

2) Has Rockstar announced any downloadable content for the game, and if so, are those items exclusive to either of the consoles.

Answer

I believe that the PS3 version does some with some (currently) exclusive DLC. Most likely the DLC will be available for the Xbox 360 version as well, but of course you'd have to pay for it.

Also, the Xbox 360 version is on 3 discs, while the PS3 version is on only 1 disc.

Catching suspects alive

Question

During street crimes, is there any benefit from catching suspects alive instead of shooting them or getting them killed otherwise?

In the mission "Cosmic rays" for example the suspect kills himself if you don't catch him quick enough. Does this affect your progress somehow?

Answer

No, there's no penalty in any of the street crimes for killing a suspect rather than capturing them alive, if the option is given to you.

If you kill someone who you must capture alive, you will fail the street crime.

Usually the game will make this distinction clear to you when you start the pursuit.

I should mention that if you're interested in achievements (and your platform supports them) there are achievements for tackling a suspect and for firing a warning shot to stop a suspect, which you sometimes have the opportunity to do during street crimes. These only count after the tutorial missions (ie, once you become a full fledged detective) However, you can always replay a case or street crime later, so these are not missable.

Is there any way to tell if you found all clues?

Question

When you are on a crime scene and look for clues, is there any way to know if you found everything and can move on?

I noticed that sometimes the location gets crossed out if you are finished there, but sometimes the location did not get crossed out even though I could not find anything more to do there.

Answer

In the options menu, you can specify whether or not you want feedback/help with the investigation sections. The main one you'd be interested in is the background music, which will turn off the "investigation music" in a scene when you've found all the clues.

There is also a chime that plays for each clue, and it changes depending on whether you've you're near an examined clue versus a clue you haven't. If you are playing on a console, there is an option to turn on or off controller vibration when you are near a clue.

Some people prefer to have these options on to assist them during investigations, but others prefer to have them off to increase the challenge and/or the realism.

What are the consequences of running over pedestrians?

Question

If I run over pedestrians or hit other cars while driving through the city, what exactly are the consequences?

Answer

Your final rating (1-5) for each case is affected by hitting cars and pedestrians. The full list of things that affect your full score are:

  • Number of clues found
  • Number of questions correctly branched
  • Damage to vehicles
  • Damage to city property (running over fire hydrants, etc.)
  • Inflicted injuries (including running people over)

Those bottom 3 are applicable to driving. If you want to get a high case rating and are a bad driver, let your partner do the driving.

Convert default/offline to online profile?

Question

I started my game in L.A. Noire with an default/offline account.

Is there any way to convert it to an online account in Rockstar Social Club without losing my saved progress? Can you maybe move the savegame files somehow?

Answer

This is straight from Rockstar's website. The short answer is no, you need to have separate accounts and there is no way to migrate an offline account to an online one.

Source of information is here: http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/20634122-information-about-social-club-accounts-in-l-a-noire

Hope this helps.

Do installs of multiple-disc games to the hard drive still require you to change the disc?

Question

On the Xbox 360, along with the option to install games to the hard drive, you can also apparently install multiple-disc games to the hard drive, but I haven't tried this.

For instance, L.A. Noire and Rage have 3 discs, and Dead Space 2 has 2 discs.

I know you have to have a disc in the drive to start an installed game. If I install all discs to the drive, will I still have to switch out discs when the game gets to the portion requiring a new disc, despite the fact that they are all installed?

Answer

Yes, with a few exceptions. Forza 3, for example, comes on two discs but one of the discs is data, so if installed, disc changing is not necessary.

The reason you need to insert each disc is a way of making sure you possess the physical game disc at the time you are playing.

How do I fire a warning shot?

Question

There's an achievement in LA Noire for stopping a fleeing suspect with a warning shot.

How do I do the warning shot? I tried firing "around" the suspect while he's running, but that didn't work.

Answer

Take aim at the suspect (LT on the Xbox), a circle will fill up while you maintain your aim on the suspect. When the circle fills completely, then it will make the warning shot. You also have to be a detective for the achievement, and can only accomplish this on chases where you have the gun in your hand.

You can find a couple of guides here.

Are street crimes random?

Question

In L.A. Noire, do the street crime dispatch calls occur at pre-defined events in each crime case? If I miss one, is it lost forever unless I replay the case (or the entire game) or are they basically randomized and without a set time and place that triggers them?

Answer

They are basically randomized, though I think some are tied to particular times of day. Once you complete all the cases for a particular "desk", you can go back and play it in free play, which allows you to complete any street crimes that you might have missed.
