How come I only get 1 tower bux?

Question

The Tiny Tower wiki VERY strongly suggests, in multiple places, that employing a bitizen in their dream job will net 2 tower bux. However I've only ever gotten one bux as far as I can tell. Is the wiki out of date? Am I only getting 1 bux because I'm playing the android version?

Asked by aslum

Answer

Watch your bux when you place them in their dream job. I play on the Thunderbolt which is an Android device and although the message says you've earned a towerbux! You acctually get two, I litterally just tested to verify.

This is most likely becasue the developers are swamped with work trying to get the Android version running smoooth and they missed that dialog box text change.

Note: If you are only getting one Bux then you should send a message to the developers with your device name, becasue they don't even know you're getting shafted.

4/26/12: The message is now displaying properly as of the latest patch.

How do I LOL? Or is it just an April Fools Prank?

Question

In Tiny Tower today I noticed a new mission April Fool's 2012 which requires 225 LOL. However I can't seem to click on it. Further after I try to click on it, I can't seem to click on any other missions either. I can still click the red X to get out of the missions screen.

Is there a way to complete this mission? I do have a comedy club, and I've been stocking LOLs.

Edited to add: I am using the Android Version.

Asked by aslum

Answer

April Fools 2012 is a new mission, which requires 225 LOL's (from the Comedy Club) and 1350 Trick Shots (from the Billiard Hall).

Once you tap this mission, you should be given the option to Decline or Accept. If this isn't working for you, try resetting the game by removing it from your currently running apps.

If that doesn't work, be sure that your Tiny Tower is the latest version (v1.5.2 for iPhone).

On the iPhone v1.5.2 version of Tiny Tower, this mission works fine and is acceptable. On the Android version, it's not click-able; this is probably a bug with that version.

Can I play across platforms?

Question

I got Tiny Tower for Android thinking I'd be able to continue my tower I started in iOS. But I don't see any option and I don't think I have an online account linked to my tower.

Is there any way to play my tower cross-platform or can I not do that?

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

Unfortunately, the game does not run cross-platform.

On iOS, if you have a Game Center account, your game is tied to it, which is why you can get your Tiny Tower game on multiple iOS devices. Obviously, you do not have Game Center on an Android device, so you won't have access to your game.

What can I do to get the most “fully stocked” tower bux bonuses?

Question

I'm interested in any answer, but I'm particularly curious if there is a limit on how often you can it for a given store. For the Food store's it is normally hard to keep them stocked, and if I can only get "Fully Stocked" tower bux bonus say once an hour per store, than I wouldn't work as hard to keep those stores full.

Asked by EBongo

Answer

You always get the bonus, the issue you're noticing is you don't always get the Tower Bux. You'll note a little (useless) coin bonus at the bottom right every time you fully stock. They actually used to have the same Fully Stocked notification for Coin Bonuses, but it was annoying as heck and they removed it long ago.

The Tiny Tower wiki claims you have a 1/6 chance of getting Bux for fully stocking a store.

Quickly stocked floors like Food floors are easy to fully stock if you're paying constant attention and they'll thus get you the most fully stocked bonuses. Otherwise, just stock stores which you can keep up with at a reasonable place. Quickly stocked floors are hard to keep up with, and it's probably not worth changing your playing style, you'll have to pay a LOT of attention to the game to keep up with <1 hour restock times.

Generally, just don't change your style of play other than always stocking your third items first. Also, Dream Job Bitizens double stock but not stock time or sales, so your stock lasts longer; this means you have 2x as much time to get the fully stocked bonus.

What impacts stocking times?

Question

You can upgrade your shops to Level 2, Level 3, ...ect. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but upgrading the shop adds quanitity to your restocking, meaning you get more stock for every restock. However, does upgrading the shop also lower the amount of time it takes to stock an item? Or does every shop have their own stock time regaurdless of the level of the shop.

Also, does the type of shop have anything to do with stock times? For example, do food types tend to stock faster/slower than recreation and so on.

Asked by Emerica.

Answer

From the Wiki:

At the cost of 3 Tower Bux, the player can permanently upgrade a commercial floor. Each level of upgrade does the following:
- Adds 75 Stock to each product
- Adds 45 Coins to the cost of restocking each product
- Adds 5 minutes to the restocking time of each product

Upgrading is thus best used for low-stock floors as you can boost their stock by the largest relative amount and increase their stocking time to something more sane. Type of floor is irrelevant, and there doesn't seem to be a max floor level either. Just upgrade low-stock floors to the point where you can comfortably restock at your own pace.

Note Dream Job stocks are actually boosted by 150 stock, the 75 stock boost is applied before the Dream Job multiplier.

Why don't I have any friends?

Question

In Tiny Tower, you have the option of viewing your friend's tower, giving them gifts from your own stocks, and... That's pretty much it, I think.

The problem is, I have no friends.

How do I get friends in Tiny Tower?

Asked by Tristan

Answer

If you are playing on iOS, you get friends by adding them to your Game Center account - any friends you have there that are also playing Tiny Tower will show up as your Tiny Tower friends, and you can then visit them and gift them things.

To add a friend to Game Center, you need to sign into the Game Center app with your Apple ID, and then there is a button labelled "friends". Tap that, then tap "add friends", and then you can either add friends using their Game Center username, or their email.

You cannot add friends from within the Tiny Tower app itself.

Can all costumes be aquired for free (no tower bux)?

Question

I have noticed that randomly I will sometimes have a citizen move in that is wearing a costume. After looking at the costume list it appears to me that these are "buyable" costumes using tower bux. This made me wonder - is it possible to get all of these costumes by random move ins, or are some "buy only". I'd rather save my bux for "buy only".

Asked by EBongo

Answer

From personal experience, even if a bitizen moves in with a costume you haven't bought yet, it won't be unlocked for other bitizens unless you buy it with tower bux.

What shops should I upgrade first?

Question

With balanced demand amongst all shops, some shops run out of product before others because of inventory quantities. I see that I can pay to upgrade inventory, but I don't know whether I get more bang for my buck starting with shops that have the largest inventories already, or starting with the smallest, or if there are other factors besides inventory size to consider when upgrading. So which shops does it make best financial sense to upgrade first?

Asked by EBongo

Answer

For upgrading, the increase in the default stock (75) is flat across the board.

This means that no matter the size of the store's stock quantities, the 'upgrade' is going to be the same constant amount.

However, if any workers there are working their 'Dream Jobs', the stock increase effectively doubles to 150 for the number of items matching Dream Jobbers.

As far as which stores to upgrade first, that depends on your playing preference. A general order follows:

  • If you're having trouble keeping stock in your smaller stores (especially your Food-based ones), then you can start with those to help balance things out. Having empty stores brings in nothing, while larger stores can be kept at least partially stocked without as much maintenance.

  • After that, prioritize upgrades to stores where the workers are in their 'Dream Job', as the additional stock bonus helps make the upgrade more worthwhile.

  • Otherwise, in general it's best to spread the upgrades around all of your floors so that they're consistently keeping their stock longer.

Last note, don't get too aggressive with your upgrades - unless you're frequently leaving your tower for long periods of time and have stores emptying out a lot, those Tower Bux can be better spent on other things like the Coin Bank and quick restocks/sales/builds.

Can the clock be faked in Tiny Tower?

Question

Many "Persistent World" games like Farmville prevent cheating by requiring an internet connection so you're always playing by their clock; Tiny Tower however does not require an internet connection.

Does this mean it's possible to play with my device's clock and manipulate/hack the game time? Does the game try to "punish" you at all for doing this? Animal Crossing for instance made the game very hard to play (billions of weeds grew) if you messed with the device clock.

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

Does this mean it's possible to play with my device's clock and manipulate the game time?

Yes. There is no punish for this as I have done this before to test the theory.

Your items will sell out, you will make gobs of money, and build times would be shortened (obviously).

Does the game try to "punish" you at all for doing this?

Not really, no.

BE CAREFUL THOUGH: If you build / start to stock items and then revert back to the correct time, you will show the total stocking time = stocking time + time skipped ahead.

To avoid this, do not stock items and then move back to the correct time. Let all stocking finish, or skip the time forward till the stocking is completed.

One other issue I seem to have was that no more customers will come by your stores....

This is fixed by closing out the application completely and reopening it.

Can I cancel a mission I started in Tiny Tower?

Question

In Tiny Tower, there are multiple missions available. I accidentally accepted a mission without having both type of stores built. I only have one, and it is deducting ~1k stock every time I restock that store.

Can I cancel this mission so it doesn't remove those stocked items until I am really ready for it? TT

Asked by Foxtrot

Answer

If you switch to/select a different mission, it will cancel the mission you are currently doing.

Other than that, there is no way to just cancel the mission and not start another (other than finishing it).

Are there negative consequences to ignoring a floor type when adding floors in Tiny Tower?

Question

The Food floors are just an annoying time-sink for me. They are constantly out of stock, and floor upgrades only add minimal inventory. Ideally i'd never build one, but I'm content with just waiting until that's all that remains.

Are there any negative consequences if I hold off on building Food Floors until I have no other option?

Asked by tiddy

Answer

You will see a severe decrease in demand for all non-food businesses (which applies to ALL businesses of that type, not just the extra ones) when you fail to keep businesses even. The demand % you see directly relates to the amount of people that will visit each floor of the type. At 100% demand, each floor gets 10 bitizens (purchases) per minute, each 10% demand drops, you lose another bitzen/sale per minute. The drop in sales will be substantial.

From the Wiki:

demand = total commercial floors / ( 5 × total category floors )
A floor of a lower demand category will draw less customer traffic than one of a higher category. For this reason, it is beneficial for the player to keep demand on all floor types high by building from each category evenly. The following table illustrates the approximate impact of various demand levels.

Thanks to demand, it's better to have food floors you just don't stock than to not have them at all, so just buy some food floors, you don't even have to stock/employ them. You can spend a tower Buck per floor to shove all your food floors together and ignore them as a set if you wish.

If you don't put employees in your food floors, you can save some bitizens for your other floors, thus needing less residential floors per commercial floor. Residential floors don't affect demand.

Can I back up my Tiny Tower game?

Question

I am almost positive that this game doesn't auto backup to anywhere online, but if I happen to wipe or switch phones, can I perform a manual backup of my game state prior? If so, how ? I am playing this on an iPhone 4s running 5.0.1.

Asked by Foxtrot

Answer

The game actually does backup - it backs up to Game Center.

From the app description - "Game Center integration to let you see your friends towers, back up your game and earn awards."

I have used the Game Center backup myself - I deleted the app for a while when I got bored of playing it, and then I reinstalled it after a couple of months. When you restart the game and sign in to Game Center, a message will pop up alerting you to a saved copy of the game (if there is one) that you can choose to use instead of starting over.

You can use iCloud/iTunes as well to backup your game. A post on the GetSatisfaction forum from Dani Rudolph, a Nimblebit employee, suggests following this Apple guide that helps you through the backing up and restoring process.

If you use iCloud/iTunes to back up, you can then use this Apple guide to transferring the information from one iPhone to another.

How fast will my items sell out?

Question

Is there a formula to how fast something will sell out??

It would be nice to somehow stack most items to sell out at the same time or create some pattern for max income.

Asked by Foxtrot

Answer

The Tiny Tower Wiki explains that each store has it's own demand (assuming demand is at 100% for that floor category), so sales at any given store are at a constant rate of 10 customers per minute.

Bitizen buy items randomly, so they'll buy a mix of all items and all items' stock will decrease at the same rate. Naturally items with shorter stock will sell out faster.

Due to how sales per minute is handled, you can also "watch" your tower's stock by watching Sales Per Minute; SPM actually calculates money earned per minute, so if your SPM is high, that means bitizens are buying more high priced items. This actually means that your low cost items are out of stock, and thus your bitizens can only purchase higher cost items.

From the Wiki, about Sales Per Minute:

Assuming 100% demand (10 bitizens / minute), a single business contributes to this number ...
30 if only 3-coin items are stocked
25 if 2 and 3-coin items are stocked
18 if 1, 2 and 3-coin items are stocked

The wiki also has an advanced Selective Stocking method you could use:

The natural rate of income of each floor is determined by which products are in stock. It follows that a fully employed and stocked floor will reap more coins than one with a single employee and product. However, If the player is able and willing to pay a bit more attention to his or her game, it's very possible to gain even higher rates of income.

Their method shows stocking only 2 and 3 coin items is most profitable because it yields a very high Coins Per Customer rate but doesn't close down the store as often as stocking only 3 coin items would. Note that this only works out if you're actively playing at all times, any time where the game will be left alone you should just fully stock the stores.

Should shops be open at all times?

Question

I recently started playing Tiny Tower. I only have a few shops at the moment, but I do my best to keep them open at all times by keeping them stocked. The only problem I seem to notice is that my bitizens often make comments such as, "It feels like (x) shop never closes!"

I know that if the shops close, I lose money. However:

Will my bitizens be happier if I let shops close? Do they even get time off?

Asked by Tristan

Answer

The great things about bitizens is that they never seem to need to sleep. Thankfully you don't have to manage your bitizens personal concerns in this game, as the focus is the tower. Your bitizens will work 24/7 without any loss of productivity, so long as you can keep your shops stocked. So, yes, shops should be open at all times.

If you see them complaining in the Bitbook, I think that's just the developers way of adding some personality into the game. :) The only way to make a bitizen happy in the game is to employ them in their dream job. Failing that, until their dream job opens in your tower, best practice is to match them with the area that they are highest in according to their profile. They will at least remain content until such time as their dream job opens and you reassign them. So long as you can match them with a job of interest level 5 or greater, they will be content. Anything less than 5 and they will be unhappy in their job.

How up to date is the Android version of Tiny Tower, compared to the iOS version?

Question

Looking at friends (with Apple devices) screenshots of Tiny Towers, there are small differences between the iOS version and the my version - the most obvious being star icons to indicate dream job assignments.

Roughly how far behind is the Android version? How long ago did these stars start appearing in the iOS version? And what other features is the Android version lacking?

Asked by Simon Scarfe

Answer

If the version numbers match, the iOS version is version 1.5.1 and the Android version is 1.3.6.

Here are the things that have changed in the iOS version since 1.3.1:

What's new in Tiny Tower 1.5.1: · Fixed a bug in the way completed missions are saved.

What's new in Tiny Tower 1.5:

  • NEW MISSIONS! There are now missions for you to complete from the main menu! Complete them by collecting (via stocking) the required products from the floors in your tower.
  • GIFTING! You can now gift stock to friends through the floor focus menu (use the quick sell button)!
  • Added star graphics for each floor to show the number of dream jobbers employed there.
  • NEW FLOORS AND COSTUMES! ·
  • Reworked sound code.
  • Fixed other minor issues.

What's new in Tiny Tower 1.4.1:

  • Fixed crashing on older devices
  • Fixed occasional startup crash
  • Reset button now visible on settings screen

What's new in Tiny Tower 1.4:

  • New floors! New costumes!
  • Share your tower on the web from the main menu!
  • Added separate settings for sounds and music.
  • Fixed bug causing a crash when viewing certain neighbors.
  • Fixed a bug where Realtor VIP move-ins had the same dream job.
  • Fixed a bug causing floors to paint themselves.
  • Fixed a bug preventing shoes from changing color in dress up.
  • Increased allowed length of custom floor names.

This details what was in the Android update on January 31st:

Tiny Tower Update, new content and features added to Tiny Tower on January 31, 2012. Now you can do even more with your bitizens and tower!

So... What's new in Tiny Tower?

  • Costumes for your bitizens
  • The Bitbuilder
  • More floors added
  • Upgrading floors (adds 75 stock for each floor level upgrade), you will be able to level upgrade your floor at least 300 times.
  • Renaming floors
  • New elevator upgrade
  • Sharetower

As you can see, the Android app is quite a bit behind, as they have just added support for costumes, which the iOS app has had for a while. It also does not have the new mission system, and the star graphics (which you mentioned).

What does this symbol and number mean?

Question

See my screenshot - What does the tower symbol mean in the bottom left? And/or how is it different from the symbol in the top right? I know the top right symbol and number means how many floors you have, but the symbol and number in the bottom left is clearly different...

The numbers at the bottom: Mine in the far left one and I have 17 floors. My friend is the middle one, and he has 40+ floors...Tiny-towers

Asked by Foxtrot

Answer

It still means the number of floors you each have. It doesn't automatically sync every time you look at that page - I have had it be behind as much as 5 floors early on when I was building a lot. I suspect it only syncs a certain number of times per day.

As for your friend - there may be a problem with him syncing - perhaps he isn't connecting to Game Center, or has been offline when it is syncing, so you wouldn't see his floors. I know that sometimes it takes a couple of days for that screen to match what I see when I view my friend's towers, or for it to match how many floors their game says they have.

Will a V.I.P wait in the elevator in Tiny-Tower forever - Or until I make use of him/her?

Question

A V.I.P. (construction working in this scenario) just entered my elevator and I see him waiting there. I have not engaged interaction with the V.I.P yet because I do not have enough money to build yet. I would like to wait until I have started the construction before using him.

Will he wait there until I use him? Will he be there if I close the game? I have not closed the game but it is running in the background.

VIP: Construction worker

Asked by Foxtrot

Answer

For the most part, they will wait there until you want to make use of them. However, if you tap on them to start the elevator, you will be forced to deliver them to some floor before you can take any other actions such as restocking or constructing a new floor. Be aware, however, that as long as the VIP is waiting at the elevator, you will not have any other regular elevator customers.

The only occasion that I've seen where I've "lost" a VIP was when I went to view a friend's tower. Otherwise, they have always waited in the lobby until I decided to make use of them.

What are the effects of making my bitizens happy?

Question

Do they restock faster? Restock more? Get more customers? What about unhappy? Does that have any negative effects?

Answer

The happiness of your bitizens only helps you indicate if you've placed them in their dream job. An red unhhapy bitizen is just unemployed. A green happy bitizen is in his dream job. A yellow "meh" bitizen has a job but it isn't his dream job.

Placing bitizens with appropriate skills and dream jobs helps you in the following ways:

Placing a bitizen in his dream job: Placing on the same floor one, two or three bitizens with their dream jobs will give you double the stock when stocking the first, second and third item respectively. This effect stacks, meaning that if all three workers have their dream job, all items give double the stock.

The effect of job skill: Bitizen job skills gives a certain discount on stocking costs, the cost is equal to the total skill level of all workers in the relevant type, for exmample, if you place in a Retail floor three bitizens with 5, 7 and 9 retail skills, you'll get a 21% percent discount when stocking the floor.

Is there a limit to how tall my Tower can be?

Question

I am getting closer to 100 floors now, and that got me wondering. Is there a maximum number of floors my tower can have? Or can I keep building floors for essentially forever?

Answer

I suspect that there is a maximum of 152 floors in Tiny Tower. This is because there are (as of v1.5) 57 different residential floors + 95 commercial floors. Every time I build a new floor, I get a residential or commercial floor that I don't already have.
