Using the Courtesan in multiplayer on PC

Question

For a long time since I've been playing, I had the feeling that the Courtesan was just not a selectable character in multiplayer on the PC. I know that console players have been able to choose her but it never seemed like PC players were able to. Some people say that you need to be at level 50 so she would be unlocked -- I think they're talking about Brotherhood. But I've seen videos of people less than 50 and were playing as Courtesan and I've already gotten past level 50 once and am currently at level 40 -- working my way to prestige -- and I have yet to be able to choose her. She doesn't even appear in the roster as unlockable. What gives? I've seen similar questions on the net, all not really having a right answer as they answer from a console player's perspective.

Now, I've seen a player online and they were using the Cortesan! They've prestiged once already (at level 48 and about to prestige again) so I'm guessing I must prestige once before she's available? Or maybe it's just a coincidence since the first DLC has been out and she's a bonus?

Can anyone verify if this is true or know exactly when she may be used on PC?

Asked by Jeff Mercado

Answer

She can only be unlocked if you have:

  1. Played Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
  2. Linked your UPlay account for both games to the same account

From the wiki:

"The Courtesan can only be unlocked in Assassins Creed: Revelations if you have played Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood."

Where did the apple that Altair hides in the library come from?

Question

I've just finished my first play-through revelations yesterday, and something is bothering me since.

It's about the apple which Altair hides in the library with him. Where did it come from? It can't be the same one from the previous games, because this one is still there when Ezio opens the library (I think). And if there are many apples, then why didn't the templars found them?

Is there something that I've missed? (It's not impossible, as I was already quite tired and sleepy by the end).

Asked by ivant

Answer

This whole answer is chock full of spoilers about the AC universe and story. Hopefully you already knew this from the huge spoiler tag in the question. :)

There are multiple Pieces of Eden in the Assassin's Creed universe. The Templars are searching for them in the first game, which is why they're curious about Desmond's memories of Altair - at the end of the first game he holds the Piece of Eden and it displays a globe with locations marked. These are the locations of other Pieces of Eden.

In some of the "secret" memories that you can use to unlock "The Truth" in the series, you're told that Pieces of Eden have influenced or allowed great leaders from history to rise to power. The Templars plan to use many Pieces of Eden, in concert with a vast amplification network, to extend their control over the entire world at once.

The Piece of Eden that Ezio locates in Assassin's Creed 2 is different from the one Altair had - this one the Templars have already recovered from wherever it had been previously hidden or kept. Ezio takes it from the Templars twice, and finally hides it for Desmond and the Assassin team to recover later in AC: Brotherhood. (This is the piece Desmond takes right before stabbing Lucy)

At the end of Revelations, Ezio recovers Altair's Piece of Eden, which Altair had possessed from the end of the events of the first game until his death. The memories that Ezio recovers from the library keys tell the story of how this device effected the assassin brotherhood in the years following the original game.

How do I do the “Hook and Throw” maneuver?

Question

How do I do the "Hook and Throw" move in Assassin's Creed Revelations? I don't recall it from the tutorial. I need to do some for the Mercenary challenge Set 2.

Asked by CyberSkull

Answer

When you're sprinting, with the hookblade equipped, tap B (or O for PS3) right as you approach your target. If you HOLD the button, you'll only do a hook and run, which isn't what you want. It takes a little practice to get the timing right, but it's pretty fun when you do it right. Side note: It doesn't seem to work on Janissaries. They always manage to avoid the "throw" part.

Where are the “rebellious citizens” in Assassin's Creed: Revelations?

Question

To recruit more assassins, the game says to find "rebellious citizens" (as opposed to winning back dens). Where can these citizens be found, and what are their markers on the map?

Asked by sean

Answer

These are citizens under attack by the guards of the city. They appear on the map as black rectangle with a white circle in the middle and four white Ls in the corners, pointing at the middle.

Citizens will be available to recruit only if you have vacant spots in you assassin's roster. If you assign assassin's as local den master or send them to foreign dens, you'll be able to recruit more assassins.

On a side note, you can always open the map and check the map's legend to determine what is the symbol for every object on the map.

How can I run away while engaged in a sword fight?

Question

I find myself getting locked in combat with a group of enemies and unable to run and hide easily or at all and end up button mashing my controller attempting to get my assassin to run away. It is incredibly frustrating since I have always been able to run away while engaging in combat in previous assassin's creed games.

Any advice on how to get my assassin to quickly remove himself from his combat stance and run away?

Asked by Paralytic

Answer

Depending on your system, press what ever button you use to lock on(LT/L1/F for 360/PS3/PC) to break the lock on, and sprint in the opposite direction of your enemy. Then it's just the standard run far enough away or hide so that you become anonymous again.

I have noticed that in this game it is harder than others to escape combat. I seem to remember just being able to press the buttons to sprint in the opposite direction to break combat and start running.

What does installing an Assassin Den in a Mediterranean City actually do?

Question

I've just captured my second Mediterranean City and have just been reminded that I recently used the "Install a New Assassin Den" mission in my first captured city.

But what does it do. I can't see anything obvious that "+1 Assassin slot(s) in the city" has achieved (in my first city, of course, haven't used in second one yet).

enter image description here

Asked by DMA57361

Answer

Once you've taken control of a city, you can assign assassins to work in that city from the Guild interface. At the start, you can only assign 2 assassins per city, but building additional dens means you can assign additional assassins, up to a max of 5.

When assigned to work in a city, the assassins will generate income for you and help you to retain control of the city. The more experienced the assassins are, the better the job they will do. You can also assign these assassins contracts from the city they are currently responsible for.

Assigning assassins to a city removes them from your "normal" assassin roster - they will be unavailable to call in combat or send on contracts outside of their city. However, you will also be able to recruit new assassins to replace them. Do note that once you've assigned at least one assassin to a city, you can't empty the city completely out - you can swap assassins around, but once there's at least one in the city, there must always be one left.

I personally never used this mechanic, (I managed just a core team of "global" assassins who I could send on contracts and call in battle) and I found that I still had plenty of money and resources. If you find this particular aspect of the game interesting, though, then building additional dens is an important part of expanding your ability to utilize it.

In Assassin's Creed Revelation what does the assassin symbol - x% mean on books [closed]

Question

Possible Duplicate:
What does the “A -15%” statistic mean when shopping for armor?

Every book you can buy (and i think other items as well) has an assassin's symbol and a -percentage. What does that mean?

Answer

That symbol relates to the amount of influence your takeover of the city is affecting a discounted price at that particular store. If you've removed all of the Templar towers/Templar influence for that region, your discount will be even higher.

The only exception to this is in Cappadocia, where you are unable to remove Templar influence, resulting in a drastic mark-up on all prices.

How can I check how long I need to wait for the next bank deposit?

Question

I never know how long I have to wait until the next bank deposit. I know it's meant to be every 20 minutes and that there are events that annoyingly reset the timer without telling you, so I was wondering if there's a way to check how much longer I need to wait for the next deposit (assuming it won't be interrupted).

I'd like something more specific than 'dawn, midday, and dusk' because those are just as hard to time as 'every 20 minutes'. Is there a timer anywhere I can have a look at? I've not found anything so far but I've only just started playing and was hoping that after two games they'd include something as simple and useful as this.

Asked by Alex

Answer

Unfortunately, no. There's no timer visible in the game.

When I was in need of money, I tended to just leave the game running and park Ezio in a haystack or rose bush near a bank. If you leave and eat dinner (for example), when you get back, you should have enough cash to continue.

Can a body be lifted from a parapet?

Question

I have been playing revelations recently and was doing the quest where the minstrels have to be knocked out and dropped into the haystack. I made a mistake in the aim and now his body lies on a parapet. I am unable to pick it up from there. Is there a way to lift him or something? any pointers? I don't want to restart the memory as I will have to travel from far and be undetected too.

IF you quit your game and reload your save, you'll just have to play the mission from the last checkpoint. as suggested by @JohnoBoy

Where can I find a tax collector to kill for Tax Evasion?

Question

I'm trying to finish up the single player achievements in Assassins Creed: Revelations, but can't seem to ever find a tax collector to earn the following achievement:

Tax Evasion: Get your money back from a Templar tax collector.

Is the tax collector triggered by any specific events, in certain memories, or completely random? Are there areas where they are more likely to show up?

Asked by Doozer Blake

Answer

I found one running around randomly, but I've only seen one, period. They show up like the Borgia Messenger does in previous games, the icon looks like a red money bag.

Over on this thread is a supposedly repeatable way of getting one to spawn, by hiding near the Hagia Sophia tunnel entrance and waiting for a particular bank deposit in the day cycle, when one will almost always spawn.

AC:R Mediterranean Traveler Map Pack DLC broken?

Question

I recently downloaded the Mediterranean Traveler Map Pack, but it appears to be broken: I have no new MP maps and can't even choose the maps in a new custom game.

I've already tried downloading the content again.

Any ideas how I can fix it? Is this broken for anyone else?

Answer

(This answer is based on my experience with the trial of the pack. It probably isn't any different than the official release.)

The maps found in the Mediterranean Traveler Map Pack will not be found in the normal game type categories. There is a separate category in which you can find when trying to play a Custom Match. Here, all the "extended maps" (current and possibly future) will be in the playlist for all the game types.

In the Custom Match menu, change the Simulation Category from the default categories ("Simple Deathmatch", "Free For All", "Team Objectives", and "Private") to one of the two new categories. There's one for "Extended Maps" and "Private Game using Extended Maps" (I don't remember the exact wording, I didn't purchase the DLC yet). Then you'll be able to create and join these games using the new maps. It will only play these maps exclusively and not include the regular maps in the rotation. (They do this probably because they don't want to mix people that don't have the DLC with these players so there's no confusion about what maps get played).

Replay memory in Assassin's Creed Revelations

Question

According to Ubisoft's support document, I can replay memories. However, I screwed up in Sequence 1 Memory 3 (A Journal of some kind) but it seems I cannot repeat it, the option is simply missing (this is true for all of the memories in sequence 1 so far; haven't completed the sequence yet so I don't know whether this issue is with later memories as well).

So are there memories that you are not supposed to repeat? Do I have to complete the sequence first? Or is it a bug?

Answer

From the support document you linked:

If you do not see the option to replay memory, this means you are already in a mission or at a point in the story where memory replays are not available

You're probably in this state in the game. If you're mid mission you can either finish it or can abandon it by pausing the game and choosing to exit memory in the menu. When you're outside a mission, the DNA option should be available in the menu.

Question

In Assassin's Creed: Revelations, is there any reward for collecting all 100 animus fragments, other than a trophy/achievement?

Answer

Once you have all of the Desmond memories (at 30), and the maps (for the Memoir Pages at 25 and the remaining fragment locations at 50), there are no other rewards besides the achievement at 100.

AC:R Multiplayer: how do some high level players re-use abilities so fast

Question

In AC:B you unlocked improvements to your powers by unlocking challenges. In AC:R you can craft abilities once you're level 30 instead.

However some high level players (prestiged at least once I think) seem to be able to use smoke bombs insanely fast - I've been smoked twice in less than 30 seconds by the same player several times. This is significantly quicker than I can craft.

Do you get additional crafting options once you prestige?

Am I missing some combination of perks that gives you the ability again in less than 30 seconds?

Answer

Overall Cooldowns (lvl 40) takes 10 seconds off all your cooldown timers, so one could drop a smoke bomb every 50 seconds if they pick that perk. If someone spends time crafting their abilities (at 80 Abstergo Credits a pop) they could reduce the default cooldown on Smoke Bomb to 45 seconds, so if you add in the perk one could conceivably get their cooldown on smoke bombs down to 35 seconds.

Are there any unlockables in Assassin's Creed Revelations from playing the prior games?

Question

Are there any unlockables in Assassin's Creed Revelations that are awarded from playing prior Assassin's Creed games or getting specific achievements in those games?

Answer

Yes. If you've played AC:B multiplayer that unlocks the Courtesan for use in Revelations multiplayer.

That's it though.

How do I do a leg sweep?

Question

I have done a leg sweep a few times before, but it's usually by accident. I know that it's RT + B on xbox but I'm not sure what the other parameters are. Does it happen when I am locked onto an enemy? Do I have to have my hookblade equipped? Do I have to be running? RT + B also makes me do a hook-and-throw, a hook-and-run, and a grab when I'm in combat. What is the special circumstance that makes the leg sweep an option?

Answer

You can leg sweep civilians, which means that you don't need to be locked on in order to do it. I can do it with my fists or my hookblade out, so that's not a factor either.

The hook-and-x moves require that you be moving in high profile towards someone hostile while you have no target, and depending on if you tap or hold the B button, you'll either hook and throw (tap) or hook and run (hold).

If you're not moving fast enough, or you have them targeted, you'll do a grab instead.

It seems to only give me the option to leg sweep if the person's not hostile, so a guard that doesn't have a red arrow above their head can be leg swept, but once you've done that, they go hostile and you'll do hook-and-x or grab moves instead.

The hook-and-x and leg sweep moves are more for escaping or avoiding being staggered when you hit someone, so you can't be in combat mode (ie, locked on) in order to do them. Leg sweeping seems to be more focused on non-combatants, and hook-and-x for hostiles.

Once in combat, pressing the "high profile" button makes you block instead of run, so you're doing more close quarters moves with the B button.

Multiplayer bonus for getting Ishak Pasha's armour?

Question

I've just complete Hegia Sophia challenge level and, as well as Ishak Pasha's armor, got the message Multiplayer bonus unlocked.

This happened once before - after assassinating a particular character, this message appeared and apparently this corresponded to me unlocking that character as a multiplayer character.

I don't have Xbox Live Gold - I can't go into the multiplayer menus at all, so I can't have a look for myself. I've looked at lists of multiplayer characters on the internet and can't find one that either (a) looks like it relates to Ishak Pasha or (b) specifically says it's unlocked like this.

So, what did I just unlock?

Answer

The character you assasinated and unlocked was Shahkulu, killing him unlocks the Renegade MP character. He's really easy to spot in the crown and has a distinctive fast-walk animation, making him a really bad choice.

Completing the Hagia Sophia dungeon unlocks an icon shown for your 'templar profile' during MP sessions. It looks like Jack Black with a moustache.

The MP icons are kinda pointless - really it should show your gamer tag icon instead, but I guess it's yet another collectible for you to keep playing for.

Why can't I murder this drunk guy and why is he a target? (aka: Where do I find Duccio for the Bully Achievement?)

Question

While exploring the Constantine district, north of the Romani HQ, but south of the blacksmith's shop I found a small courtyard with a well wherein a drunk man is... well, being drunk. Every time I approach this courtyard, there he is, being drunk. The problem is he's got a red target on top of his head, which usually means he's part of some mission.

I first noticed him during the Master Assassin mission, "The Trickster, Part 2" where I was tailing a rogue Romani. I poisoned him then, thinking he was related to the quest. However, I still had to kill the Romani in order to complete the quest.

I've poisoned him, stabbed him a dozen ways, arrowed him, bombed him, called assassins on him, grabbed him and thrown him, tripped him, etc, and I can't seem to figure out what he's for and why he's on my radar as a target. Every time he dies, if I leave the area he resets. Killing him is worth about 20% awareness as well.

It's been several saves/reloads since I first encountered him, and there he is, enjoying his wine and staggering about. What's the point of this guy?

Is this just a glitch, or is there some mission I need him for?

Answer

This guy is related to an acheivement.

http://www.trueachievements.com/a157188/bully-achievement.htm

Beat his face up. That's it. With your fists, I shall add.

Storyline wise, I think it's the ex husband of your sister, if I remember well.

I shall add his wiki page, for story's sake. http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Duccio_de_Luca

Are there any other ways to be able to change ability sets besides dying?

Question

As far as I know, the only way you can change ability sets when playing online is to die at the hands of another player or get stunned in a "team" game. Unfortunately it's just not possible to commit suicide without getting assistance from your pursuer and it's inconvenient giving free points to a pursuer/target just because you want to change abilities.

Are there any other methods to be able to switch ability sets in the game that I'm not aware of?

On a side note, this question stems from this PC bug that prevents me from changing ability sets in team games between rounds. I don't get the "round changing" screen, I'm just left wandering the map until everyone else spawns which makes playing team games for me very frustrating.

Answer

There are unfortunately no other ways than the two you mention to change the ability set during a session. It's indeed sometimes frustrating as you say (even more I can imagine if you experience a bug on top of it).
If you have to die, try heading for an honorable death, canceling your pursuer's bonuses.
