Does Lost Planet 2 have PC/Xbox 360 cross-platform multiplayer?

Question

Will the PC version of Lost Planet 2 be able to play multiplayer against the Xbox Live community, like you could with the first version?

Asked by SqlACID

Answer

Nope, I'm afraid the multiplayer in LP2 is same platform only. That applies across all formats.

Does Mass Effect 3 multiplayer care about platform? [closed]

Question

Possible Duplicate:
Can I play multiplayer across different platforms?

Do XBox players and PC players play together in ME3's multiplayer mode? Or are they relegated to distinct games per platform?

Couldn't seem to find anything in the first couple pages of google results when searching about this. It would seem really dumb if PC players only match with PC players and Xbox with Xbox.

Answer

You only play with other players on your platform. They all use different backends (Origin for PC, XBox Live for 360...) and your Multiplayer characters are tied to your console's account (so if your name is Bob on PSN, other players on PSN will see you as Bob), making them unique on that network, rather than tying them only to Origin accounts.

You're still tied to Origin for all Galaxy at War stuff and EA also uses it for DRM for extensions and to prevent cheating.

What's the difference between the PC, 360 and PS3 versions of Skyrim?

Question

I know the game hasn't been released yet, but there has been a freakish amount of press coverage on it, so I was wondering what platform the game would perform best on. As a result, I want to know what the difference is between the different versions of Skyrim.

I want to know not just about the frame rate, stability, and graphics, but also extra functionality from platform specific features (e.g. XBOX achievements, PC only editor like previous Elder Scoll titles).

Asked by zergylord

Answer

The PC will support mods:

Bethesda's fifth Elder Scrolls game, like Oblivion before it, will allow for extensive player customization, according to the developer. "We've always been impressed with what the community has done with our tools," a rep for the company said on its forums, revealing, "Like the Elder Scrolls Construction Set for Morrowind and Oblivion, we plan to release [a] Creation Kit so you guys can mod Skyrim."

The immediate predecessor, Oblivion, has seen countless mods -- everything from new characters to online play. We can only imagine what the Skyrim community will manage to create while we wait for Bethesda to finish the most ambitious Skyrim mod, Fallout 4.

The PC also supports console commands which can be convenient if there is a bug with quest items.

The Xbox 360 has the first 2 DLCs exclusively for 30 days.

As far as I've found all three versions support achievements/trophies.

Is Soul Calibur V's online play cross-platform?

Question

If I get the Xbox 360 version and my friend gets the PS3 version, can we play vs each other online?

Asked by Davy8

Answer

No. The multiplayer is run on the PSN (SEN?) and XBL networks seperately. You can not compete with players on the rival console.

Dungeon Defenders: How can I play cross-platform PC-PS3?

Question

I found this: Does Dungeon Defenders support cross-platform multiplayer?

So my question is not "if" but "how". How can I (on PC) play with PS3 players, or vice-versa?

Answer

I don't believe this is actually currently supported. It's listed as a feature, but it's also listed as "coming soon."

In a reply to a forum thread, one of the developers of the game stated:

We will post as we have more information. Cross-platform is a feature that we really want to implement. We also want to get fixes and improvements via patches to Console users. Unfortunately many things are simply out of our hands. We are working day and night on our product and hope you guys can bare with us.

This was the freshest data I could get, and it's dated November of 2011.

They've also mentioned that patching the console versions is a costly process ($10,000 according to other replies from the devs in that thread).

It's hard to say when the support will be there, as that's speculative and not really authoritatively answerable.

Can NCAA Football Dynasties Be Played Between Consoles?

Question

In NCAA Football 11, it is possible to play in dynasty mode across different console systems? I have a friend with the game and a PS3 and I have an Xbox360.

Is it possible for us to play in a dynasty league together?

Answer

No because the PS3 and Xbox Live networks are not compatible nor connected to each other. There are very few games that allow multiplayer across different platforms. Due to the similar architecture between the Xbox and Windows (PC), you are more likely to see cross-platform multiplayer there, but it is still incredibly rare.

Transferring Skyrim saved games from one machine to another

Question

Is there a way of easily transferring a saved game from one machine to another?

  1. PC to PC
  2. XBox to XBox
  3. PS3 to PS3
  4. Cross platform transfers

Answer

This should work for Skyrim just like it does for other games:

For PC to PC, you can go to the "User/Documents/My Games/Skyrim" folder and simply copy the "Saves" folder from one machine to the corresponding folder on the other machine.

For XBox 360, here's a guide on how to transfer saved games.

For PS3, here's a good video guide on how to generally move save games and here's a guide on how to transfer save games from PC to the PS3, although it's possible that this just works with saved games which are originally from a PS3.

Does Battlefield 3 support cross-platform multiplayer?

Question

I've found pages and forum posts that come close to answering this question but that don't answer it squarely. Various people...

  • feel it's obvious that BF3 won't support cross-platform multiplayer.
  • insist they've seen it.
  • say it'll be console-to-console, but not PC-to-console.
  • speculate that cross-platform support will be added.

Does BF3 allow people from different platforms to play together? (And if it doesn't, does anyone know of an authoritative statement from EA or DICE about future support?)

I'm specifically interested in PC-to-Xbox, but would appreciate any cross-platform information.

Answer

Currently, Battlefield 3 does not support cross-platform multiplayer.

According to this article, which quotes the studio head, Robert Bach, there are numerous differences between the PC and Console versions of Battlefield 3:

Limitations caused by hardware requirements causes the maximum number of players in a game to vary between versions:

The biggest difference between the PC and console version of Battlefield 3 is that we have 64 players on the PC and 24 players maximum on console...We tried to get more players in [to the console version] but then you need to scale down all the graphics, scale down all the destructibility, and sometimes you need to scale down all the map sizes

Alterations were also done on the maps themselves to make them work better for smaller numbers of players:

When we say they are smaller, it's not that we have cut them in half. But we tried to compact them slightly to keep the action up.

Judging by these differences, and the licensing/requirements mentioned by Stof, it is extremely unlikely that there will be support for such a feature.

On a side note, having such a feature would be a huge win for this game franchise, which is in constant competition with the folks over at Call of Duty, and I'd hope that any game promoter/marketer would have immediately jumped on it as a major selling point if it was a plausible future enhancement.

Borderlands Mac OS X version play online with Windows version?

Question

I'm unable to find this information specified somewhere.

Basically, the Borderlands version purchaseable through the Mac App Store, can it play with Borderlands installations running on Windows, ie. co-op, etc.?

Or can Mac version only play with Mac, and same for Windows version?

Answer

Steps:

  1. Install GameRanger
  2. Join a room together in GameRanger.
  3. You host the game, and make sure you check the box for "Allow late joiners" When you start the game, it should launch Borderlands, and your game should jump right to a hosting mode where GameRanger starts up a LAN game. Meanwhile, your friend's game will launch. If they get stuck at the start screen instead of joining you automatically, have them close Borderlands and then launch it again from within Steam.

GameRanger basically sets up a VPN connection between the parties involved, then connects the players via the LAN Game function. So it can be pretty tricky to get working with various routers, ports, firewalls, etc.
