Battlefield 3 last patch: weapons efficiency decreased?

Question

Playing BF3 on XBOX360 after yesterday's patch, I noticed that my efficiency in killing enemies decreased.

It is not about aiming, I had a concrete sensation that every weapon is less effective than it was before the patch.

I was aware of the fact that USAS-12 was due to be nerfed (and indeed it has been, especially if you consider fragmentation ammo); now even if a shot hits an enemy in plain face at a distance slightly greater than extremely close range, that shot alone doesn't kill him. This is very different from USAS-12 previous behavior.

But after the patch it seems that using every weapon has increased its level of difficulty.

Am I having the right perception?

Answer

It seems that a good portion of the weapons have had some change to them. You can check out the changes in the patch notes here: http://blogs.battlefield.com/2012/04/xbox-360-patch-going-live-april-3rd/

So to answer the question: it probably depends on which weapon/s you mostly use and get used against you. For example, the M16A4 has had its vertical recoil increased, but horizontal recoil decreased, while the M416 has not changed at all.

Do I need to patch the base game to 1.3 if I already have Venice updated to 2.1?

Question

I've recently bought DVD version of Anno 1404 and Venice (2 DVDs).

Anno 1404 is to version 1.2 and Venice is to 2.0.

I downloaded (and applied) Venice patch 2.1 and I also applied the unofficial patch 1.7.

However when I launch the base game it's still 1.2 instead of 1.3. Shall I patch it? I tought the 1.3 patch was included in 2.1 Venice patch.

Answer

I believe you need to patch the base game seperately, unless you have the gold edition(I assume you do,) in which the patch for it should have patched base game to 1.3

How do I get the “Batman: Arkham City” retail patch

Question

I have the retail DVD version of Batman" Arkham City - it is not the Steam version and it cannot be activated on Steam. How can I get the latest patch ("DirectX 11 patch")?

Answer

Batman: Arkham City patches via Games For Windows Live if you're not using Steam. When you log into GFWL, you will be informed that a patch is available, and then it will be installed.

Note that just because a Steam patch is out, it doesn't mean that the same patch has hit GFWL; depending on the publisher/developer's release schedule, it may be delayed.

I would recommend being patient, and if you're having trouble, to go ask on the official forums, where Rocksteady Community Managers are providing support.

This is the official thread for the most recent patch.

Which update patches should I install for the PC DVD versions of Majesty 2 and its expansions?

Question

The official Majesty 2 website and The Patches Scrolls website (which is linked as a mirror by the official Majesty 2 website) show different "latest" update patches for Majesty 2.

The official website states that patch 1.1.88 is the latest version and the Patches Scrolls website states that patch 1.4.356.0 is the latest version.

Which is the latest version that I should install for the PC DVD version? Also, do I need to install the patch if I also have the Kingmaker expansion? What about the Battles of Ardania expansion?

Answer

In case anyone wonders, it appears that Majesty 2 has different update versions for each expansion. This means that the latest patch version for Majesty 2 with no expansions is 1.1.88, while 1.4.356.0, is for one of Majesty 2's later expansions.

Starcraft 2 Patch 1.1.2

Question

How does the new patch affect the game? What made them increase the hitpoints for the buildings? How did the patch change the void rays? Less cheeze from terran with the new building rules? New Roach range, what advantages do you get? Are there changes to regular strategies because of the new changes?

Patch notes: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/936928#blog

Answer

So there is no way to know for sure what these changes will mean, but here are a few facts that some high level players are pointing out:

Zerg Changes

Roach Range

While this is a nice buff to Zerg its not nearly as nice for Zerg as the Terran changes. However, the extra range increase will make Roaches more effective against Marauders, as well as Hellion/Reaper Harass, and even allow Roaches to pick off Gateways with Photon Cannons behind them (before they couldn't attack the Gateway without being in range of the Cannon).

Barracks after Supply

This is the biggest buff for Zerg. This essentially sets Terran back 2 Marines or 1 Bunker on early rushes. As a result its much harder for Terran to stop a fast expanding Zerg. I would not be surprised if 14 Hatch or 13 Pool/15 Hatch became standard play in ZvT. This, combined with the Reaper change has a very pronounced affect on Zerg openings.

Reaper Speed

As Reapers have been "solved" in ZvT and PvT, I think this change makes less sense. However, this basically puts a nail in the coffin for any sort of early Mass Reaper. Without Reaper Speed and with the Roach range increase its going to become harder (if not impossible) for Reapers to force early Roach speed, and really throw Zerg off his game. Previously the strength of Mass Reaper was how it affected Zerg play by forcing him into heavy Roaches (or losing). A number of Zerg have gotten better about this by going earlier Roaches, an additional cost that will be less necessary without Reaper Speed coming early.

Protoss Changes

Void Rays

To quote incontrol

Void Rays are only used in specific situations, on specific maps, against specific players... I cannot see this change affecting that.

Drop Ship Speed

While the Zerg response to Drop Ships tends to be more "ground" or Mutalisk based, the Protoss answer as always been Stalker/HT. This change will really effect that match up. Not only are Drop Ships losing 10% of their speed but also 15% of their Acceleration. This will make it more easy to catch Drop Ships with Stalkers and dynamically change that match up, for players like QXC (who has heavy Drop Ship play). I cannot count the number of time I've seen a Drop Ship escape with a hand full of hit points.

Thor going away from Energy

Using HT against Thors is always been a secondary option. Since many players prefer Immortals (for obvious reasons) this won't have far reaching repercussions (same goes for Corruptors but that's even rarer).

Terran Changes

Zerg and Protoss Building Hit Points

How many changes do you think that Blizzard is going to make that effects Marauders without actually changing Marauders? As buildings are all Armored, this has a larger effect on Marauders. As many players use Stimmed Marauders to "snipe" buildings, they are going to find that sort of player less effective...

TvT

TvT isn't going to change much, but the effects of TvZ and TvP have already been documented. If nothing else these changes will reduce the Proxy Reaper play in 4v4 and 3v3 and bring those match ups more in line with standard play.

Ultimately its hard to predict what will happen to Terran and without any hard facts I'd rather not speculate.

Buying Evil Genius pre-patched

Question

I'm hoping to buy Evil Genius, but I remember there being two patches (official and unoffical), each which only worked with some versions. Does anyone know where I can get a copy that's pre-patched or works with whichever patch is better?

Answer

GOG.com's release comes pre-patched to 1.01. I successfully applied the unofficial patch to it without issue and completed the game with it.

There has been some confusion regarding the GOG.com version actually being 1.01. However, GOG.com contacted Rebellion who confirmed that it is indeed 1.01. There are more details on this in the linked thread.

Starcraft 2 Patch 1.1

Question

Starcraft 2 Patch 1.1 Details came out, in a nut shell Blizzard is trying to balance out damage against armor units and to provide players with better rush defense/counters.

How should I start preparing for these changes?

Answer

Please note: this is largely localized in time, as these changes may or may not go into effect.

There are a number of things in this report so I'll try to break them down as best as I can.

Siege Tanks

The switch from 50 to 35+15 means that Siege tanks will remain effective vs Roaches and Stalkers (banelings also remain the same), however, a number of units change:

  • Zerglings no longer 1 shot
  • Hydralisks no longer 2 shot
  • Zealots no longer 4 shot (175 vs 200)
  • Marines no longer 1 shot

The key points here being that fast melee units (Zerglings and Zealots) will be more effective vs tanks than they were previously. I imagine this means Blizzard wants these units to be more effective late game, and I know that you'll start seeing more Zergling/Zealot drops on tanks (as the splash will still do the full 50). The boost to Hydralisks is also very nice, but largely incidental (as without creep the difference will be negligible). Top players (ie. Idra) have been complaining about the effectiveness of Mech and BioMech for a while, and this largely seems to be a reaction to that.

Battle Cruisers

As Cattle Bruisers are strong against ground but less strong vs air, this is just a straight nerf. In the long run we will likely see this change cause more diverse late game Terran play (Viking + BC + Banshee), but overall little effect. I would not be surprised if this change was nerfed or BC were changed again in a later patch.

Ultralisks

The primary change is a reflection of the decrease in Siege Tank effectiveness. While Ultra will still remain strong against Protoss forces, it looks like this is a shift from using Ultra to counter Mech to using Zerglings. Compared to Protoss, Ultralisks will still be about as strong vs T1 forces, and still weak vs Immortals.

On the subject of Ultralisk head attack, it looks like Blizzard finally realized that the difference in dps was tiny (15%), and are hoping that the AoE offsets the change in damage.

Reapers

There has been a lot of discussion about the role of Reapers in the Terran force since day 1. Though Reapers have found a couple niche roles which they work well in, they have failed to become an interesting unit outside of these roles. While this change feels like a knee jerk reaction to changes in Zealots and the IEM finals, I would not be surprised to see Reapers taken in a different direction in 1.2.

Zealots and Bunkers

Both of these changes are very much targeted at early rushes and reducing their effectiveness. 2 Gate Protoss has long been ignored by the larger Protoss community, but is EXTREMELY effective (especially against fast expanding Zerg). Both of these changes are targeted at extending races past early play and reducing strategies which are harmful to the larger user base. The change in Zealot build time in particular has oscillated a number of times during Beta and will likely continue to do so.

Compatibility of the latest Gothic 3 community patch

Question

After installing the latest version of the Gothic 3 community patch (V1.74), will I be able to continue using savegames that have been made using earlier versions of the game (in my case v1.6) and just miss some of the improvements made by v1.74, or will I have to start a new game from the beginning?.

Answer

You have to start a new game. Developer notes:

Three years, 7 month and 18 days after the release of Gothic 3, the Community Patch Team released the definitly last version of the Community Patch for the game. Again this patch contains several improvements, which can be looked up in the change log.

Savegames made with patch version 1.7x are compatible with the CP 1.74. Older savegames (1.60 or earlier) are not compatible. Please take a look at the download description for more information.
