FIFA 12 online Custom formation in Head to Head Seasons?

Question

In FIFA 12 online can we use custom formation in Head to Head Seasons mode ? In Team Management I couldn't edit the formations but then I still saw someone with weird formation which is probably not in standard formation list.

Asked by JatSing

Answer

Finally, I have found the trick. We can create custom formations and custom tactics in exhibition match then use them in Head to Head Seasons.

Audio icon in FIFA 12 match?

Question

Today I played a guy who intentionally created an audio icon on the top right of the screen in match to distract my view. Anyone know what it is and how to turn it off ? It's really annoying.

Asked by JatSing

Answer

Unfortunately it is not currently possible, but as you can see from the following link, it has been received as a suggestion by developers for a future patch/release.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We'll be sure to pass it along to the developers for consideration

How much money does it cost to play FIFA 12 online?

Question

How much money does it cost to play the PC version of FIFA 12 online?

Not regarding Internet or energy costs but only the connection to the server.

Asked by Woltan

Answer

Playing Fifa12 on the PC is free. Unlike for example the Xbox 360 where a subscription to XBox live is needed, the PC version only requires an active internet connection and an original copy of the game.

So if you exclude costs for your connection, power and the original cost of the game online play is free.

Will tactical defending be optional?

Question

In FIFA 12 a new control system is included for defense, called tactical defending.

It makes the constant pressing that was used a lot in FIFA 11 impossible by the fact that you now only shield the opponent player by holding the button, but don't rush into him. The actual tackle has to be done manually.

Also the second defender you can call now won't directly attack the ball carrier, but also just shields him and covers up additional passing routes.

This makes constant pressure play a lot harder and less automatic, which I think is a good thing, but tactical defending is only optional and can be turned back to the old mode in the control settings.

I would imagine that playing with the old mode against the new mode gives you an advantage in defending, because you still can put on constant pressure play without much manual effort.

So my question is:

Is there any information how this issue is going to be addressed in online play? Will online leagues restrict this in any way? Or is it just for everyone to pick?

I'm asking because I want to specialize in one of the defending modes (possibly the best), and therefore it will be good to know if the new tactical defending will be mandatory in online mode.

Asked by atticae

Answer

Romily Broad, EA's FIFA Community Manager, tweeted the following:

Tactical Defending: H2H Seasons, Clubs and Pro Ranked are locked to TD. Legacy OR TD in Online Friendlies and Custom Unranked.

So if you plan on playing ranked matches then you should specialise in Tactical Defending.

FIFA 12: Ultimate team frustration

Question

I've been having some problems winning games lately. I still remember the time when I had a really good team that I had built up from the ground with very little money; I used to win 5:0 and I even won against a guy who had 2 informs in his possession. As I got on with my bronze team, things started getting tougher... Now I have GIANT difficulties winning against another guy's starter pack with my premium 90 pace bronze team. After a quartet of bitter 3:0 and 2:2 defeats I got really frustrated...

My question is: Does the ingame level (I'm level 19) affect the people you are getting matched with? I feel like my level is sky-rocketing although I'm not getting better. If so, How can I reset my level to have my own share of "6:0 N00B P4WN!NG"?

As I started playing, I lost 6 games, all 10:0 for my opponent. How did those people, clearly better than me get matched up with me, a noob?

Please tell me what I should do. I'm getting dangerously close to throwing the disc out of the window or putting it into the microwave and watching it burn.. :)

Answer

do not underestimate the power of;

a) player morale b) team chemistry

I have gone through the same before and noticed a couple of midfielders with either poor morale, fitness, or chemistry. Formation tweaks, & fitness/morale cards saved the day.

How do I get the ball to curl the ball during free kicks in FIFA 12?

Question

I watched a youtube video describing how to curl the ball, but when I practice this it doesn't curl. I use the PC version with Logitech Controllers.

Can anyone describe appropriately how to curl?

Answer

Use the button on your controller which is normally used for a "finesse" shot, the one which forces the player to go for a placed shot rather than a power shot. On a free kick this does much the same, allowing you to apply curve and accuracy.

I use xbox and I would use RB and the left thumbstick for curve. you need to use the equivalent on your controller

Why do I need the Season Ticket for loading a Career Mode save state?

Question

I've experienced this now for the third time since I bought the game:

Season pass requirement on career mode load

Every time I want to continue any Career Mode game this screen appears. It's in German, but it's telling that my Career Mode save contains leagues to which I've no access anymore. They suggest that I have to buy the Season Ticket or buy content in the FIFA store.

I'm able to play the Career Mode from the beginning. This happens on the first load of the save state.

Answer

You're not the only one who's had this happen, but there isn't much out there to explain why this is happening. You might confirm that you didn't somehow start Career Mode with a team that was downloaded from the Creation Centre. One of the things that you get with Season Ticket is below:

Career Mode Pack

  • Entitles you to use - and actually play with - downloaded Creation Centre teams in Career Mode by swapping teams during New Career setup.
  • Entitles you to use a downloaded Creation Centre tournament (league type only) in Career Mode by selecting the league during New Career setup.

If you're using standard leagues, as most of those other people were, then I would guess it is just a bug that, sadly, doesn't seem to have a fix yet.

Levelling in FIFA 12

Question

In FIFA 12 you are awarded XP and rise through experience levels. Are the experience levels actually used for anything, e.g. unlocking features? If so, is there a list somewhere of what gets unlocked at each level?

Answer

The points are used to compare yourself with other players, and the points you earn are also given to whatever club you've chosen (whether you are actively playing as that club or not), which are then used to rank the clubs in week long "seasons".

How do I improve my strength and agility in FIFA 12?

Question

I play career mode in FIFA 12 and have played 2 seasons but my character does not improve in strength and agility. What do I need to do during games to get better?

Edit: These are my conclusions for now:

  • The agility and strength attributes are governed by your height and weight. The "fatter" your character, the slower he is, but his strength raises. There is a sweet spot in the height/weight ratio.
  • If you play a virtual pro you can improve through accomplishments
  • It is very hard but possible to improve strength/agility otherwise, but I do not know what the trigger is.

Answer

This page has a list of all the Accomplishments and the reward associated with each:

Virtual Pro Accomplishment List

From this list the following accomplishments will improve Strength or Agility:

ARENA
14) Check out the fakeshot – perform the fakeshot when inside the penalty
box
Agility +124) Beat a player with skill – dribble past any opposition player or the
goalkeeper using any skill move
Agility +1PHYSICAL
01) Beat 2 players – dribble past two players in a single match with your
virtual pro
Agility +205) Win 3 headers – win a minimum of 3 headers in any match with your pro
Strength +108) 2 jumping headers – win a total of 2 jumping headers in a mathc with
your virtual pro
Strength +113) Win 5 games – play in & win at least 5 total matches as your virtual pro
Strength +119) 2 career volleys – score 2 goals from any type of volley in your career
Agility +324) 25 total headers won – win a total of 25 headers in the course of your

What do the symbols next to the player names mean?

Question

When playing Head To Head Online Seasons in FIFA 12, on the squad selection screen some of the players have one or more symbols next to their name. What do these symbols signify?

Answer

The symbols you are referring to depict a player's so called specialities.

Specialities are divided into silver and gold ones, where gold ones are showing that the player is a really great talent. They are awarded for high stats in certain areas, for example the Speedster speciality is awarded to players with high acceleration and sprint speed (>= 90 I believe).

You can view the specialities for a specific player in the Team Management view:

Main Menu -> Customize Fifa -> Edit Teams -> Team Management -> Select a team -> Squad -> Select a player with a speciality -> press LT

Notice that only the best 3 specialities are shown in the team overview, in the below example you can see that C. Ronaldo actually has more than those 3: Dribbler speciality

The following list of specialisties is assembled by hand, so it might be incomplete or contain errors.

Silver:

Acrobat The Acrobat uses his athletic ability to get to balls that other players won't get to. This player does many acrobatic clearances and bicycle kicks.

Clinical Finisher
Clinical Finishers have the technique required to be deadly goal scorers from anywhere within 25 yards. They have an eye for the goal, and will make you pay for your mistakes.

Crosser:
This player is excellent at swinging the ball in from the wing. They are accurate, serve the ball with pace, and can bend it around defenders into dangerous areas.

Distance Shooter
This player not only has a powerful shot, they are accurate from distance. If you get the ball in open space, don't be afraid to take a pop at goal.

Dribbler
This player has excellent ball control and is great at getting around defenders. He will also likely have a few tricks up his sleeve and will use them to beat his opponents.

FK Specialist
FK specialists have spent countless hours on the training ground taking free kicks. Some will be able to curl the ball around the wall, some will get it up over the wall and back down.

Playmaker
This player has exceptional ability to distribute balls to his teammates. On the ground or through the air, he is the guy you want to play through to create chances.

Poacher
The Poacher excels in Finishing inside the penalty area both with their feet and with their head. They have the ability to turn half chances into goals.

Speedster
A speedster is a player who can not only get off the mark quickly, but also has a very high top speed.

Strength
Players with the Strength speciality are forces to be reckoned with. They are difficult to push off the ball and use their size and strength to their advantage when defending.

Tackling
Tacklers have mastered the art of dispossesion. They react quickly to the situation to read the dribbler and are able to break up more plays than the average defender.

Tactician
This player is fantastic at reading the game defensively. He will excel at reading the trajectory of passes, and will react faster off the mark to intercept passes.

Gold:

Complete Defender
This player is multitalented and excels in a number of key areas of defending, making him the complete package in terms of defending.

Complete Forward
This player is multitalented and excels in a number of key attacking areas, making him the complete Forward package.

Is it possible to change the camera view in the FIFA 12 practice arena?

Question

In FIFA 12 (and some previous versions of FIFA) when you first start up the game you can control a player and practice playing against an AI goalie on an otherwise empty warm-up field. This also occurs before each match. My problem with it is that the camera view is always facing the goal, whereas the usual camera view for matches in FIFA is the side-on view from high on the sideline. This means that practising shooting is a little pointless as you will never see the goal like that in a proper match. Is there any way to change the camera view in the practice arena?

Answer

I havent played FIFA for a while so this isn't 100% but I'm pretty sure there is no way to change the camera. All u can do is check the different camera settings in the option menu, and if it isn't there then sadly no there is no way to change it. The warm up is mainly for fun and not for real match practice.

What does Contain Mean in FIFA 12?

Question

There is a new defense in FIFA 12 known as 'contain'. What does it mean and how to use it? I played the interactive tutorial but don't get the idea.

Answer

I don't have a copy of FIFA 12, but here's the meaning of "contain" in real-world soccer:

The idea is that a defender should "manage" an attacker and wait for the attacker to make the first move instead of rushing forward to tackle the ball.

A defender trying to contain an attacker will typically hang back a bit, move to one side or the other to try to force the attacker to go in a particular direction, etc. The theory is that once the attacker makes their move, the defender can react appropriately.

You would typically apply it when play is relatively slow around your net. If there is a lot of fast-paced passing going on, you're likely better off moving around quickly to keep up with it.

Far as FIFA 12 goes, it appears that you'd basically use it in similar situations. You shouldn't overdo it:

If you continuously contain your opponent is going to have all the time in the world on the ball! All contain does is track your opponents run at a set distance away. You’ll never put a foot in.

Also, whilst containing you’ll never be close enough to put a tackle in. In order to make the tackle you’ll need to let go of the contain button, close in on your opponent and manually make a tackle.

But it can be a useful tool in one-on-one situations:

If the passing is moving around quickly then jockey (L2) will be better suited for defensive cover but if you need to hold someone up, or Ronaldo is running at you with verve then Contain is the best tool for the job.

How to dribble properly in FIFA 12?

Question

I am new to FIFA and do not know how to dribble properly during games. I can execute most of the "tricks" in the arena (1-on-1 vs goalkeeper) on a regular basis, so once I know what to do I can pull it of.

But during games it is very complicated to dribble once I select Semi-Pro, as I do not know what to do.

So here are my questions:

  • Can I dribble on reaction (depending on what the defender does) or do I have to guess the right dribbling?
  • What tricks are considered best when trying to bypass a defender (he is in front of you)?
  • What tricks are considered best once I have nearly outrun a defender (both run next to each other)?
  • Are there any good tutorials on this except the basic "How to execute"?

Answer

As you are new to FIFA, the best advice regarding skill moves is:

Dont do it (yet).

The effective use of skill moves is pretty hard to master and randomly executing them will lead to loss of the ball in 90% of the cases.

Having said that, here are some tips:

  • Start getting used to dribbling without the special moves. In FIFA 12, manual dribbling (also called 'precision dribbling') has become far more effective and done correctly it can oftentimes get you past a sloppy defender and into a good shooting position. Just use the left analog stick without sprinting and try to curve your way through the defense in the right moment. Try to anticipate the defenders move and get him on the wrong foot.

  • You can slow down your pace further for more precision by holding L1.

  • When you are trying to outrun a defender, bump the right analog stick into the direction you are running. Your player will push the ball further in front of him, allowing you to run faster.

  • Practice single skill moves in the arena, not only against the GK but against actual defenders. You can create game situations by pressing select in the arena.

  • You can view the skill moves list when you are in the main menu by clicking Customize FIFA -> Settings -> Controls -> Button Help -> Skill Moves

  • Skill moves I found most useful when the defender is in front of you are Heel Chop and Roulette.

I am far from being an expert on skill moves, but for new players this should help get you started. Effective use takes a lot of practice and while looking cool, for the casual player the amount of time it takes to master them isn't justified by the edge you gain. But if you want to become a really good FIFA player and be competitive online I guess you have to learn them sooner or later.

How do you delay your approach during a penalty kick in FIFA 12?

Question

In FIFA 12, during the penalty shootout the AI often delays its shot when taking a PK. The player stops 1 step before the ball, trying to force the keeper to move, and then shoots.

a) How can you do this?

b) Are there any other special moves for penalty shootout? I know L1 + B lets you chip the ball for example.

Answer

I just figured it out by accident:

Press B (shoot) again while the player runs towards the goal.

This actually gives you some more time to aim properly, I find it easier to make aimed shots into the goal corners with that technique.

How do you install the FIFA 12 Demo with FIFA 11 also installed?

Question

I just downloaded the FIFA 12 Demo, but when I start the Autorun.exe I only get a play button, none for installation. If I click it, the FIFA 11 startup menu comes up.

If I start EASetup.exe, it says the game already is installed.

Any way to fix this?

For clarification: I have FIFA 11 installed and I am looking for a way to get the FIFA 12 Demo installed without uninstalling FIFA 11.

This seems to be a general issue with the demo, I found a german article on the web pointing out this issue as well. What I want to know is if there is a workaround to get the demo installed anyway.

Answer

I now found a solution in this news article (german):

If you remove the following registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\1DC6AEF331AE7EC47AE47AA4A4A0B7C5

you are able to install the demo while Fifa 11 stays installed.

You should make a backup though, so that you still can uninstall Fifa 11 properly later.
