How many concurrent players does a typical WoW server have?

Question

WoW has a huge playerbase as we know, but how many average players are on a single WoW server at once? Is it higher than the average MMO (for example FFXI has 1500+ on a server at once).

Answer

It sounds like you're looking for the information from http://www.warcraftrealms.com/activity.php?serverid=-1 for World of Warcraft. An average of 900 players on across a day, with a peak of around 1500. That's across all realms, so you could dig down into the stats on the page to find out the average for a high population realm, etc.

What level can I choose my advanced class?

Question

In Star Wars the old republic, you choose a class at character creation and later you get to choose an advanced class (such as sharpshooter for smuggler). What level does that happen?

Answer

You can make the decision when you leave the starting planet. You also need to be at level 10, you may not be level 10 at when you reach this point so you'll need to go back if you leave that area.

Are there any MMOs with a pay-once subscription model? [closed]

Question

I believe Guild Wars pioneered this model, where you purchase the game and then receive unlimited play for free. I know Guild Wars 2 will have this same pricing system.

Are there any other MMOs, existing or forthcoming, that are "pay-once, play-forever".

Answer

The only other MMO I know based on this principle is Global Agenda. They used to have a monthly model, but dropped it for pay-once play-forever.

What is the feasibility of playing EVE Online for free?

Question

While looking up EVE Online on Steam there is feature bullet that reads:

Play for FREE – You can buy game time with in-game money you earn while playing.

Does anyone have experience playing under this gaming model? If I play the game casually (a couple hours a week) will I be able to earn enough money in-game to pay for my addiction game time?

Answer

Yes, it can definitely be done.
You can buy a 30-day PLEX for 300M ISK.
You can make 300M ISK in a couple hours if you know what you're doing.
The only difficulty is in that "know what you're doing" part.
Instead of actively playing (which can easily take more than a couple hours a week) you need to utilize all the methods of generating income while offline. Research Agents, Planetary Infrastructure, and The Market are the three biggies.
You'll need a while to set all that up, but the Steam "21-day free intro to EVE" (assuming that's still running) should be enough. And you'll have to play a bit more than a couple hours a week to get it up and running, too.
Warning: Some mission grinding to increase faction standing will likely be required.

On the whole though, I'd say that if your "addiction" only means a couple hours a week, then you haven't got any addiction to speak of. 8 )

This does bring up the valid question of how to use those three methods to generate 300M/month.

How to make ISK while offline

  1. Use the market to generate income
    1. Use the market to buy things you need and sell things you don't need. This will teach you the basics of how it works: buy orders and sell orders. Also explore the 'details' section where you can see the volume traded per day and the low and high prices that day. Notice the systems that the majority of buy and sell orders are based in, this is the 'regional market hub'.
    2. Find items that have a high trade volume in your region and that you can post a low buy order for. Post a buy order.
    3. Collect your purchases, transport them to the market hub (or anywhere that you can get a good price for them) and post a sell order for them. People will pay a good price if you're selling the item they want at the station they want.
  2. Develop Planetary Infrastructure
    1. Use the market to find a planetary resource that sells well in your area.
    2. Find a planet that you can produce that item on, drop a Command Center on it, build extractors (and factories if necessary) to produce that item.
    3. Keep those extractors running constantly. Set them to run for as long as it will be till you can set them again.
    4. Post low buy orders for all the planetary resources you're producing on your planet as detailed in 1-2. This is a good alternate source of resources if you can't produce enough raw material to satisfy your factories (and really, who can?)
    5. Transport resources you've purchased cheaply to the planet, take away resources you've created on the planet. Sell those resources as detailed in 1-3.
  3. Get Research Agents
    1. Find corporations in your area that have R&D agents. Get the best R&D agents you can. Research the Datacore items they can produce for you, look on the market for which one is the most profitable in your area, start the research. Drop a pile of Tritanium in the station where the agent is.
    2. Run missions for those corporations to raise your standings with them. Note: The missions that Research Agents give once a day count towards the 16 you need to get a storyline mission. Try to get the storyline mission from an agent in the R&D corp.
    3. Once the higher standings you've achieved give you access to higher quality R&D agents, stop the research with the old and inferior agent and start up a new research project with the new and improved agent.
    4. Collect datacores every now and then, sell them as detailed in 1-3.

Note that market ability is the key skill here, all other methods are merely ways of cheaply generating things that you can then sell on the market for a nice profit. Market ability only takes a couple hours to train on your character, but your personal skills at it will develop for years and years.

How do I block a person in Fiesta online?

Question

I have found HOWTOs about how the system works, but not a single article how to actually block someone.

(Not-helping guide)

Answer

Options are available by right-clicking on individual users in the chat window: whisper, add as friend, party invite and block. If you choose to block a player, you'll no longer receive any messages from them.

Right click them in the chat window and choose block.

I have a decent PC
( Core i7 950
10gb DDR3 1600mhz

  • Try to turn antialiasing off.
  • Try to use differend drivers or operating system (Windows XP might be faster).
  • You can also have low free hard drive space.
  • Get the most recent updates and patches. Try to look if there are some issues with patches.

What's up with RF Online? Can't even register on the website

Question

What's up with the game? I just found the link (I know...it's an old one) and wanted to try it out.

However, I can't even register. It throws different (non-sense) error messages. The emails won't arrive, and once when I successfully registered ... it won't let me in.

The game has been shut down?

Answer

The game is no longer available in North America and Europe due to contract issues between CCR and Codemasters. It may still be available in Asia. (Source)

Other ways to get Diamonds in-game in Runes of Magic?

Question

Are there any other ways to get or earn Diamonds in Runes of Magic?

I see there's a category for Diamonds in the Auction House, but has anyone seen Diamonds for sale? If so, what did they fetch?

Are there any quests or drops that yield Diamonds?

Answer

Unfortunately, the only way to acquire diamonds is to buy them. In the past, you used to be able to purchase diamonds on the Auction House with gold, but this was supposedly changed due to the amount of "gold farmer bots."

Soloing in Lord of the Rings Online

Question

Which is the best race/class combination and tradeoffs involved for solo play in Lord of the Rings Online without the need to to be in a group most of the time?

Answer

The best class to solo with in LOTRO would be the Rune-keeper. The Rune-keeper can swap between healing and offensive spells, so you can pretty much deal lots of damage, and if you ever find yourself dying, stop dealing damage and heal yourself. (Note, with the rune-keepers' spell system, you need to build up healing or offensive energy - so if you've been casting offensive spells for a long time, you'll need to stop and start casting the low-power healing spells to build up healing energy, before you can heal yourself for any great amount of HP).

The class I've been soloing with is the burglar. He is good at soloing for the reason that he can disspapear if things get messy, and he can handle a large group of enemies better than other classes, with about 4 stuns and various debuffs.

Other than that, the Guardian - with a tank spec - can solo relatively easy, though it will take you longer as you won't be dealing a lot of damage.

Lastly, The Hunter is a pretty good soloer, as he can lay down traps and deal damage (more than the burglar can) from a distance, and can teleport away from combat if things get hairy.

Unless you have a class preference, I'd say go with the Rune-keeper or the hunter.

Lord of the Rings Online Group Size?

Question

How large of a group can you play Lord of the Rings online with? Is it a group/party based game?

I play PC games with a group of 4-5 people and we are looking for something we can all play together online. Does LOTR Online fit that criteria?

We currently play Guild Wars, but we are running out of content there, and have been thinking of something different to start playing.

Answer

The maximum group size in LOTR: Online is 6 players.

I started playing LOTR after playing Guild Wars and I feel like it's very group oriented. The quests are all varying degrees of difficulty; some of them are recommended only for parties. The guilds that I've come across in LOTR are very active and friendly. There's a ton of content apart from the main storyline and new content gets added on a weekly basis. It should keep your interest for quite a while.

Is there a way of speeding up skill learning in Eve Online?

Question

Learning skills - especially to high levels - can take weeks. Is there any way to decrease the amount of time needed to learn a skill?

Don't get me wrong - I think this real-time aspect of the game is great. But it's not entirely unreasonable that some action or item or whatever might improve my learning abilities. A skill-learning skill perhaps ;-)

Answer

Skill training time in EVE Online is dependent on your characters attributes. Every skill is dependent on one primary and one secondary attribute which determine the speed at which the skill is trained. The primary attribute has the biggest influence, the secondary attribute a minor influence and all other no influence.

Update: Learning skills are being discontinued. All text in italics will be obsolete...

The learning skills each increase one attribute by 1 point per level. There are basic and advanced learning skills for a maximum possible increase of 10 points. There is also a generic learning skill that will further improve all attributes by (i think) 1% per level.

There are also some implants that increase your attributes. The benefit is that it doesn't take any time to increase your stats but in return they cost more and are lost if you get podded. A good strategy is to plug in what you find and save for a +3 or +4 set depending on what you can afford to loose and the likelihood of loosing it.

To best plan the schedule of your learning skills you should install EVEMon. There you can plan what skills you want to train over the next months. The program can then optimize the schedule and calculate what you should remap your attributes to in order to minimize training time.

Finally the most time efficient approach is to first train up all learning skills to about +9 (basic level 5 + adv. level 4). The downside of that approach is that this takes a lot of time and your character will stagnate in terms of proficiency during that time. Most people will therefore recommend that you mix learning skills with practical skills to prevent you from getting bored.
