Can I stop taking pictures of my dog?

Question

I am getting really tired of accidentally bumping R and taking a picture of my dog. My dog is cute and all, don't get me wrong, but there are only so many pictures of a cute puppy that a person needs.

Is there any way to disable the camera buttons? Or am I stuck with a plethora of puppy pictures everywhere I turn?

Asked by Ashley Nunn

Answer

Try not having the SD card in while playing. Since that is where the pictures are saved, maybe it will prevent them from being taken.

How do I gain Owner Points?

Question

I have learned that various in-game items unlock using Owner Points. While I have figured out where I can see how many Owner Points I have, I haven't quite figured out how I can ensure I gain a lot of them. I figure it has something to do with taking good care of my dog, like making sure he is fed and taking him for walks, but beyond that, I am not sure.

How can I make sure I get as many Owner Points as possible? What do I need to make sure I am doing?

Asked by Ashley Nunn

Answer

Trainer points are rewarded for taking them to contests, and generally taking care of them. Some general activities that earn points are:

  1. Walks (50)
  2. Finding a present on said walk (15)
  3. Visiting friend (20)
  4. Place in competition (100 - 75 - 50 - or 25 for just entering)
  5. Petting, Feeding, Brushing and Bathing also reward points.
  6. When your dog meets another dog and they like eachother (50)

In order to maximize points ensure to always enter the competitions and train your dog well. Taking care of them daily (washing, petting , feeding) will obviously make your dog happier and will reward you more points for things you may miss in a day. This link has a pretty good list of ways to get trainer points and money. There is a trick on here, I haven't tried it (since I've only seen my cousin playing) that if you leave the brush on your dog overnight it will net you a ton of points -

"Brush one of your dogs with a rubber/wire (whichever is nescessary) brush and leave the brush on the dog when you go to sleep. Leave the charger in your DS. When you wake up in the morning, go to your game. You will have around 800 training points or maybe more than that."

Why is my dog so plump? Does he need to go on a diet?

Question

I walk my dog twice a day and only feed him when he is hungry. I try not to give him too many treats, but when I was trying to train him to play dead, he ate quite a few before I figured out how to use them.

Now he is plump and I don't want him to be that way - I would prefer to get him back to his ideal physique that he had before.

What do I need to do? I tried long walks and more exercise but it doesn't seem to help - do I just have to keep working at it? Or is there something else I am missing?

Asked by Ashley Nunn

Answer

If you noticed your dog is plump and want him to slim down, you simply need to walk him and feed him Diet Food.

Diet Dog Food can be bought from BARC for $5 after being unlocked with 850 Owner Points or by playing 6 days.

What will I miss if I only play with cats?

Question

In Nintendogs+Cats, it seems like cats/kittens are only an add-on to the main game of dogs/puppies. But if I only want to play with cats, how much of the game will I miss out on? Can I take cats on walks?

Asked by KatieK

Answer

You must first adopt a puppy before you can adopt any kittens. Kittens cannot walk or participate in competitions.

If let loose in your room they may find surprising treats, but without money coming in from walks and competitions, you might find yourself low on money. This would limit the amount of toys and other purchases you could make in game.

What do I do with my keychains?

Question

I went for a walk with my dog, and found a Leather Keychain in the street. I picked it up and took it home, but I really have no idea what to do with it. My dog can't use it for anything.

Is it just trash? Or does it actually have a purpose?

Asked by Ashley Nunn

When does the Mario house and the Mario items unlock in the American version of Nintendogs and Cats for 3DS? Thanks.

Answer

I have the UK version of Nintendogs + Cats and I unlocked the Mario house when I got around 4500 owner points. I'm not sure if it is different in the US version.

Is it a good idea to buy furniture for my dog?

Question

I started playing Nintendogs+cats, and I noticed that I can buy various pieces of furniture for my house. Other than it being expensive, and making my house look more like a house and less like a giant empty room I have trapped my dog in, does the furniture serve a purpose?

I figure he can probably use the dog bed to sleep in, but for some of the other stuff (like the armoire), I can't really think of a use for it.

Does it have an in-game purpose? Or is it just pretty?

Asked by Ashley Nunn

Answer

As the above answer states, there are no real advantageous bonuses to having furniture, but it does make the game feel a little more realistic and as you stated adds some asthetics so your home. As far as the interactions go, the best way to think about it is how would your real life pet interact with something?

The T.V, he'll stare at it

The couch, he'll sleep on it

The fish, he'll stare at it (and probably consider consuming it)

As for your question, the larger things such as tables and cabinets, the cats may sleep on them, but thats about it.

If you check the Nintendogs + Cats wiki you can see how your pets will interact with the furniture items. (and the requirements to obtain them)
