How to discover the passwords for the Sonic Generations secret trophy room?

Question

There is a secret trophy room in Sonic Generations.

Hold down Select or Back button while inside the Collection Room.

Once inside the trophy room, trophies are unlocked by inputting 6-digit codes.

How can players discover such codes by their own?

I'm not interested in a list of the codes. I know I can search the web and find such list, but doing so spoils all the fun. What I want to know is how can I discover such codes by myself. Does the game give some hints about the codes? Did SEGA release hints somewhere outside the game?

Asked by Denilson Sá

Answer

So, from the looks of it, these are not unlocked in the game. Rather, as The Sonic Stadium blog states (warning some codes are listed, avert your eyes):

According to Hogfather on the SSMB, the codes are printed on particular merchandise tags e.g. on T-Shirts and pants tags.

Also:

If you haven’t already scoured the internet to get the hacked codes (because that’s cheating, isn’t it?), then don’t worry, because the Japanese Generations site has begun to give out some of these codes!

Looks like these codes are rewards for buying merchandise (or looking them up online).

Also, as a update, it looks like the official SEGA blog is also releasing these codes.

What is the difference between red and yellow spring?

Question

In Sonic Generations, you can find two type of springs trough the Classic levels: red and yellow. Is there any difference between the two kind of spring, or is it only to confuse innocent gamers?

Asked by Jupotter

Answer

Red springs propel you forward with more force than yellow springs do.

The Sonic Wikia notes:

Red ones propel Sonic to a higher elevation, while yellow ones only send Sonic a medium to low distance.

It's been this way as far back as I can remember.

Can you attack Time Eater as Classic Super Sonic?

Question

It seems that I can only get close to and attack Time Eater as Modern Super Sonic. No matter how long I spend boosting as Classic Super Sonic, I can never seem to catch up with Time Eater. I can dodge all of the boss's counter-attacks, but that doesn't get Classic Super Sonic any closer for a hit.

Sonic's friends tell me that I can switch between the two Sonics in my pursuit, but while I'm playing as classic, they say to switch to modern in order to go after Eggman to attack.

Is attacking the boss only possible with Modern Super Sonic, and not Classic Super Sonic? Or is it possible to get close enough for a hit with either one?

The final blow does not count, as you have to combine the powers of both Sonics to blast through the fireball attack, and you also only do this in the modern 3D perspective anyway.

Research

  • This guide suggests that it's possible, "but it's extremely difficult." Not remarkably helpful, but still gets me thinking...

Answer

It is as you have said. It is possible to harm him as classic sonic, but after an hour trying myself, I found it rather difficult and as soon as I thought I was close enough, I'd have to switch back to 3D space. A good strategy I found while fighting this guy is to just hold the boost button in 3D space, then when he switches to 2D space, try to collect as many rings as possible as, to me, it is easier doing it in 2D space.

This video shows Time eater being defeated as 2D only, showing it's possibility.
