Is there any limitation as to which character can identify an item in Diablo 3

Question

During one of the quests, my co-op partner( with level 10 Demon Hunter as the character) was rewarded with a rare item. Apparently he wasn't able to identify the item(there was no option for him to do so) while my character, a level 12 Monk was able to identify the item.

Why was this is so? Is there any restriction that only particular characters at particular levls can identify items?

Asked by Sathya

Answer

He wasn't able to identify the item because he didn't know how to do so properly.

All characters can identify all rare items.

Can my items be stolen if I leave them somewhere?

Question

I haven't bought a house, but I have my own quarters as [spoiler] :

the Archmage of Winterhold, after Savos Aren dies and I bring back the Staff of Magnus.

If I put some items in a chest by the bed, will they stay there permanently until I remove them... or could they be stolen by NPCs, disappear over time, etc.?

On a related note, I've noticed that items remain until I come back when dropped arbitrarily across landscape, buildings, and caves. Has anyone experienced a case where this is not true?

Asked by robjb

Answer

Yes, they will be safe in those quarters. I have all the unique artifact style weapons and armor I've acquired and am not using in that exact chest. The earliest ones have been in there for at least 50 hours now. The alchemical components and soul gems on the shelves in the room have restocked a few times, my collection of knick-knacks is fine.

Invulnerable and Untouchable

Question

Is it possible for a Maokai to become completely invulnerable with a fully stacked Leviathan while he's inside of his ultimate? The Leviathan blocks 15% of all damage, and the Ultimate blocks 20%. This is a whopping 35% and then there's all of his Armor and Magic Resist. With about 185 Armor and MR you get 65% then the Leviathan and Ultimate you get another 35% making it 100%... On top of masteries, such as the mastery that reduces the damage you take by a flat 3 (trust me, it really helps)..

If this happens, would the only way to damage Maokai be to use Armor and Magic Resist reducing methods and Pentration as well as True damage?

Asked by Aceofgods

Answer

In short no. Not sure if there is a hard limit to damage reduction (like Cooldown reduction cannot exceed 40%), but damage reduction is based on a soft reset where they multiply, not add together. We'd first look at the effective armor/MR that the champ may have and look at the damage that is incoming.

Let's say you have 100 armor effective after all the armor pen, and they are doing physical damage of 100. This would mean you take 50% less physical damage. So their 100 damage would now do 50 damage to you. If you are in Maokai's ultimate, this is further reduced by 20%. 20% of 50 is 10, so it blocks 10 more damage. You would take 40 damage instead. If you have Leviathan fully stacked you take 15% less - that would be 40*.15 = 6 damage less or you take 34 damage now. If you are Poppy and were to die to this 34 damage incoming, you reduce that by another 50% and you now take 17 damage.

So effectively you end up reducing 83% of the damage that you would have taken. This is with reduction of 50% from armor, 20% from Maokai's ult, 15% from Leviathan, 50% from Poppy passive. Or we could just multiply how much you would take from each together: 0.5 * 0.8 * 0.85 * 0.5 = 0.17

When is it viable to build a gold per 10 item on a carry?

Question

Usually supports are the ones getting the GP/10 items, but I've seen a few carries building those items. When is it viable to build a GP/10 on a carry?

Answer

The only time you would want to build a gold/10 item on a carry is if it is building into an item you are already getting (i.e. ghostblade, deathfire grasp). A gold/10 item takes about 13 minutes to pay for its purchase (if you are selling it) in a game. This is 12 minutes that your income is locked into an item when you could be building something else. Supports get them because they will ideally be leaving all the creeps to the carries and need income. Only build on a carry if it is beneficial to your end build, not as gold boost for a short time.

Olaf's Passive and Maw of Malmortious vs. Tryndamere

Question

Which do you think is more potent in a 1 v 1 situation (not against each other), Olaf's passive that gives him more ASP as he loses health combined with the new item, Maw of Malmortius, which increases how much damage he does each hit based on how much health he is missing, or Tryndamere with his combined passive and ultimate using the Maw of Malmortius to do massive amount of damage for about 5 seconds while Trynd turns immortal?

As scary as the Tryndamere is, you also have to remember that Olaf can use his W to gain 35 (iirc) AD and 21% Lifesteal and Spellvamp, allowing him to stay alive as he hits you, possibly even longer than Trynd's Ulti can by itself. (Olaf's W lasts for 6 seconds and is on a 12 second cooldown, compared to Tryndamere's ~100 second cooldown.

Asked by Aceofgods

Answer

I find that item to be not that good for Olaf because it punishes you for building hp it scales off hp missing on percent not total so more health u have harder it is to get its passive in the max

For Tryndamere it is a very good item because u should not build hp on trynd so he can make use of that item very well

Which augment item is the most useful to Viktor? Augment of death or gravity?

Question

I have been playing Viktor lately in League of Legends and I was wondering which augment item was the best to make viktor a strong force in the team. I have been using the augment of Death but people have been telling me to to use Augment of gravity but i'm not sure which would be more useful. Any thoughts?

Asked by DarkShadow124

Answer

The question depends on what you want your role to be... or, if you're getting stomped in lane, what role you can be ;-)

Death obviously grants you a ton more damage by giving you the DoT (Damage over Time) effect. In fact (from League Of Legends wikia):

Magic Damage: 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 (+0.7 per ability power) Total Damage With Augment: 91 / 150 / 208 / 267 / 325 (+0.91 per ability power)

That's... a big deal. Especially for an AoE ability.

However, it does leave Gravity Field a little weak because of how vulnerable you have to make yourself to cast it into a teamfight. Moreover, Augment Gravity doesn't just make Gravity Field stronger:

Gravity Field has an additional 30% cast range. The item now grants him +3 ability power per level, +200 mana, +10% cooldown reduction and +5 mana regeneration per 5 seconds

Now that we know the benefits... Which one is better?

If your team is relying on you to dish out a ton of magic damage, for instance if you have a tankier team or an AD-heavy team (forcing the opponents to build armor to cope), then you almost have to get Augment Death. Viktor's entire damage kit was balanced around that idea. If you don't, you'll be hamstringing your role.

However, if your team lacks a lot of CC; has an initiate that brings the enemy team into a tight formation (Shen taunts, Orianna ults (because you have two AP? I don't know); your team has a lot of gap-closers (Irelia, Xin Zhao, Jarvan, etc.); or if you're just behind and need to be helpful in a different way, you want to get Augment Gravity.

TL;DR: Augment Death lets you crank out the damage, but your team utility will be low. If your team needs the additional utility, or you're too far behind to do meaningful damage, Augment Gravity.

Why do people do the Doran's Blade stacking?

Question

Why do people buy this item over and over? I usually play as AP Nuker or CC, and so I have no use for it, but in the last game I played Caitlyn. I got one Doran's Blade at the beginning, just to get some health, that 10 Damage that can help, and that 3% that I can barely notice. What I noticed is that if the enemy tries to kill me, I can't use lifesteal to heal myself nor can I use potions in the early game to survive. Now I see people buying more Doran's Blades; is it really worth it? Would it be better to start with a Vampiric Scepter, play maybe a little more defensively, and save the money for the boots and for an Infinity Edge, for example?

So let's see: 2 Doran's Blades are worth 950g, and they give you +200 Health, +20 Damage and 6% Lifesteal. I see people buying 3 of them, but I usually buy 2 of them.

I would rather buy a Vampiric Scepter (450g) and a Ruby Crystal (475g) and if I wait 10s I can even buy a Healing Potion. I know I get a little less damage, but what I noticed this way is that you can stay longer in the lane and if you are skilled with a Champion you can still get those last hits. And another thing I find useful: With my items I can build something later (Vampiric Scepter -> Bloodthirster). With the Doran's Blade I have to sell them later, and it results in another cost loss.

What are your thoughts on this?

Answer

The only role that can viably start with a Vamp Scepter is a jungler. This is because lifesteal procs off auto attacks, and in early game you should not be auto attacking creeps because it will push your lane too much.

One of the main ideas behind stacking Dorans is that it provides a cheap advantage for early game harrasment. If two champs with similar base stats are harassing each other, the champ with 2 dorans wil have greater sustain in lane and most likely will win the harrasments. Having more health allows you to win the skirmishes against your opponent, survive jungler ganks, last hit easier, and stay in the lane after a failed jungle gank or harassment.

This does put you behind for getting your first big purchase item, however given that a BF sword (the most common big purchase for AD champs) is 1650g, spending an early 475g on a second dorans, and consequently getting greater CS (note that after ~25 CS the dorans has paid for itself) and champ kills, can actually allow you to get that BF sword sooner.

Sucky armor for long side quest line?

Question

Is there something special to do with the armor you get at the end of the Gree(Republic)/Revanites(Empire) quest line?

For a quest level 17, it gives you an orange armor with 25-30 armor... Those who play Swtor know that for that level, it's pretty much sucky as hell.

So does this armor have some special ability I should be aware of, of some utility? Or is it just a massive troll from the Swtor team?

I'm looking for a screenshot of the Item... cant find one.

Answer

You can upgrade the armor by using commendations (or the GTC auction house) to purchase mods to fill the Armoring, Mod and Enhancement slots. Once you do, you'll see a BIG improvement.

How do items work in Team Fortress 2

Question

I picked up the Orange Box, mostly to play Portal, but I've played TF2 a bit here and there. In all my playing, I've never seen an item drop. Am I not looking properly? Do I have to run up and loot the corpse a la World of WarCraft?

Answer

The item drop system gives you a random item after a certain amount of time.

Players are guaranteed to find items at regular intervals of 30 to 70 minutes, with an average interval of 50 minutes.

Each class also has item that are awarded based on completing achievements with that class in addition to being randomly found.

How can I tell if a weapon is one or two handed?

Question

In Skyrim is there a way to tell if a sword is one or two handed without picking it up. I'm not a fan of two handed weapons and I don't want to pick them up just to drop them when I realize it's not one handed. Specially, I want to know about swords but the answer may apply to other weapons as well. Is there some icon I'm missing? Or is it just a matter of weight?

Answer

It's generally a matter of weight and weapon type.

One-handed weapons include daggers, swords (not greatswords), war axes (not battle axes), and maces (not warhammers). These will generally max out at 20 weight (with maces being the heaviest)

Two-handed weapons include greatswords (not regular swords), battle axes, and warhammers. Most have over 20 weight, but greatswords can weigh a little less (~15 weight).

What do these triangles in my inventory mean?

Question

Having just looted my very first spoils of war, I notice that some of the items I've picked up have small, upward-pointing triangles next to their names.

So far, the triangles are appearing next to heavy armor only, but it seems unlikely the game has a "heavy armor icon" but no other kind of icon. So what do these triangles indicate?

screenshot of triangles

Answer

One of the tooltips states that these triangles indicate that the game thinks that these are upgrades for you. It seems that it picks the "best" of each category: best shield, best boots, best helmet, best bow, best melee weapon, best arrows, etc.

What are vault tickets in DCUO used for?

Question

I just started playing DC Universe online and I have a vault ticket, it says use it to teleport to the vault and have free inventory space. Is there stuff there that I can just grab for free or something? I don't want to use it til I find out whether I should save it for right now.

Answer

The vault is a special minigame that you can access once per day which contains lots of presents falling from the sky that you must break open. A random amount of them contain a random item (usually green quality) for around your level.

(Someone please correct me if this has changed, haven't played at all since a few months after release).

What do each of the Tarot cards do?

Question

In The Binding of Isaac, some of the items that you can pick up are special numbered Tarot cards with different special effects when you use them. Some of these trigger events that I don't want to happen; I used The Emperor under the impression that it would save me from peril but it took me straight to the boss of the floor. So in order to avoid these kinds of situations and use each card appropriately, I'd like to know: what does each card do?

Answer

The Binding of Isaac wiki's got a pretty comprehensive (if slightly generalized, and minorly inaccurate) list. Remember that all cards are a single use item, so once they are used they vanish.

  • O The Fool: Teleports the player to the starting room for that floor.
  • I The Magician: Gives you the use of Spoon Bender (homing shots) until you leave the current room.
  • II The High Priestess: Summon's Mom's foot stomp on a random enemy. Can also hit the player, and will do so if there are no enemies in the room.
  • III The Empress: Gives you the use of Whore of Babylon until you leave the room. Whore of Babylon is Eve's curse, but unlike her version, this just hurts you half a heart then increases your damage.
  • IV The Emperor: Teleports the player to the Boss Room.
  • V The Hierophant: Spawns two soul hearts.
  • VI The Lovers: Spawns two hearts.
  • VII The Chariot: Acts as a single-shot use of My Little Unicorn.
  • VIII Justice: Spawns bombs, hearts, coins, and keys around the player.
  • IX The Hermit: Teleports the player to the Mini-boss Room, or the shop if a mini-boss room is not available.
  • X Wheel of Fortune: Spawns a Slot Machine.
  • XI Strength: Makes the player bigger, increasing maximum health and damage until the player leaves the room.
  • XII The Hanged Man: Gives you the use of Transcendence (flight over gaps, rocks and spikes) until you leave the current room.
  • XIII Death: Gives you a single use of The Necronomicon (massive damage to all enemies in the room).
  • XIV Temperance: Spawns a Blood Donation Machine.
  • XV The Devil: Gives you a single use of Book of Belial (increased tear damage) until you leave the current room.
  • XVI The Tower: Gives you a single use of Anarchist's Cookbook (spawns multiple bombs around the room at random).
  • XVII The Stars: Teleports the player to the Item Room, or acts as Telepills if there is no item room (i.e. in The Womb and Sheol).
  • XVIII The Moon: Teleports the player to the Secret Room.
  • XIX The Sun: Completely heals the player, does damage to all enemies on screen and acts as a Treasure Map and Compass for the current level only.
  • XX Judgement: Spawns a beggar. If you have no money, spawns 1 heart, coin, bomb and key instead.
  • XXI The World: Acts as a Treasure Map and a Compass for the current level only.

Tarot Cards II, III, XVII, and XIX were added in a patch on November 1 2011.

What are Feltrite Crystals traded for in Rage?

Question

In RAGE, Fellix Hagar tells me that Feltrite Crystals are very rare and only to trade them for something I really want. They can be sold to a merchant for $25 each. Can they be traded for anything at all in the game, or should I just sell them immediately?

Answer

You can trade 20 of them to Jacob, he's in the bar in wellspring, for a defib upgrade (which means you can die one more time before a game over)

There is virtually unlimited feltrite in the game so selling a few doesnt matter. driving around the wasteland will occasionally activate missions automatically. One of the missions requires you to collect 7 falling feltrites, afterwhich you keep all 7. I just recently came across another one where it was "collect as many as you can in the time given" i got a whopping 15.

As far as any other use outside that 1 upgrade, I dont know of any.

Dungeon Defenders - not picking items and mana?

Question

In Dungeon Defenders, what happens to items and mana that are not picked between waves and at the end of the level? Are they sold off and divided into player's mana bank, or are they just lost? Is it explained somewhere explicitly?

Answer

Items that are left on the ground are sold for their mana cost and split between the number of players. The same goes for mana that is not picked up.

Source: http://dungeondefenders.wikia.com/wiki/Mana

Items left on the ground at the start of a wave get turned into mana and split between the players.

If you lose the level you don't get the mana that is on the ground, it's lost because you lost the round.

Where can I find Amethyst?

Question

I recently bought Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny and I'm hooked despite my gaming tastes.

Now I'm in need for a better weapon so: Where can I find Amethyst, which is used to make Luck Blades(Dual Blades)?

I'm at the Flame Shrine now (final floor tough).

Answer

Amethysts are dropped by Monster Boxes, which are those toothy treasure-chest-looking guys that can be found on the Desert Island or the third floor of the Earth Spirit Shrine. They're also dropped by Mimics (blue Monster Boxes) and grown by Gigantuses (blue trolls), but I don't think you'll be able to get either of those until you get to the next shrine.

Is it worth using the Fire Keeper Soul to upgrade the Estus Flask?

Question

I found a Fire Keeper Soul in Undead Parish. Later, I went back to Firelink Bonfire, and a NPC offered me to upgrade my Estus Flask in exchange of the Fire Keeper Soul. I didn't pay attention, and accepted.

Now, I can see a +1 sign near my Estus Flask and it seems to give back somewhat more health. So do the Fire Keeper Soul item have other uses? Are they better or worse than upgrading the Estus Flask? How many time can I upgrade the flask, and how much do each upgrade change the HP regeneration?

Answer

You can consume a Fire Keeper soul, and doing so grants you five addition units of humanity. I highly recommend you use them to upgrade your Estus Flasks however, as they are rare, and this is the only way to upgrade your flasks. If you don't upgrade them, the flasks will be of much less use later in the game since you'll (usually) have a lot more health to replenish. Here is more information on the Fire Keeper soul.

How do I find unique charms in Diablo 2?

Question

I've tried researching this one on my own and I've come up with several different answers depending on the site I'm checking. I'd like some solid information on obtaining unique charms in Diablo 2. There are three in total: Annihilus, Gheed's Fortune, and the Hellfire Torch.

Can I find unique charms while playing single player? If so, do they drop on a specific difficulty (Nightmare, Hell)? Details on all three would be helpful.

Answer

Gheed's Fortune is a random monster drop, but is a Ladder Only item. Here is a nice drop chance calculator for any item. It also has some basic information about drops and Magic Find.

Both the Annihilus and Hellfire Torch can only be found via special events on the Realms (Battle.net servers) on either Ladder or Non-Ladder, Hell Difficulty only.

Is the Orange Guidance Soapstone item consumable?

Question

I've seen that the first merchant found in Undead Burg is selling the Orange Guidance Soapstone item. The in-game description of the item is:

Online play item. Write/view/rate message.

Messages transmit to other worlds, where they are rated. Also, rate messages of others.

In Lordran, the flow of time is distorted, and messages allow Undead to assist (or deceive) one another.

So, it appear that in contrast to Demon's Souls, I need this item to leave message to other players. What I'm wondering is whether or not this is a consumable item? Will I need to buy a new one each time I want to leave or rate a message?

And isn't the description misleading? Because, I've not yet bought it, but I'm already able to see some message on the ground.

Answer

It is not a consumable item, although you use it like one. That is to say you need to have it equipped in one of your item slots, and use it with the item-use button. So you could think of it was a consumable item with unlimited uses.

How can I use the wingstick more effectively?

Question

I have to admit that the wingstick is my favorite quick-use item in Rage so far, the main reason being it has saved me from a savage beating many times while reloading my main weapon.

While I usually use wingsticks in situations much too tense to make any astute observations, I've noticed that their effectiveness seems to vary. At times, they will simply lodge into their intended target, killing it, but at other times they ricochet around the room, damaging multiple foes, potentially (I don't think I've actually managed to pull this off). I'm pretty sure I even managed to catch one that I threw in a very boomerang like fashion.

While I haven't been able to figure it out by myself yet, the varying effects seem linked to a multitude of factors, such as the first thing the wingstick hits (enemy/wall), the throwing angle, the type of enemy and so on.

If anyone could shed some light on this, I would be grateful.

Answer

Wingsticks and Advanced Wingsticks are a semi-guided projectile weapon. They feature a lock on, but it seems to be intentionally imperfect (so you don't just play the whole game with them).

I have found that throwing them while the enemy is 20+ feet away usually results in getting the wingstick back and decapitation. When an enemy is too close it will almost certainly get embedded in them or break, lessening your chance of recovering them. If they hit an obstacle on the way to an enemy (wall, rock, whatever) they stand a good chance of breaking first.

With advanced wingsticks, they can hit several enemies before coming back to you. A good throw will result in 2 kills, a great throw 3 kills. If you see any enemies grouped, an advanced wingstick throw can make short work of them if they don't have helmets on. Advanced wingsticks also seem to be able to bounce off walls & such a few times and still have some killing power.

Wingsticks are also probably better than the crossbow for quiet kills, given that there is no zoom on the crossbow.

I hope you found something useful in the above ramblings.
