How do I rotate items in the Portal 2 Map Creator (DLC, not Hammer)

Question

I've dropped back into Portal 2 as the Map Creator DLC has recently been released. This allows you to create maps (from basic through to advanced) with a number of limitations. However, I cannot, for the life of me, work out how to rotate things.

I have this ramp: enter image description here

How can I get it to face the exit, rather than looking at the wall? I've tried all manner of keyboard keys and shift-click, ctrl-click.

Asked by tombull89

Answer

If you select the ramp, so that it is highlighted in yellow, then you can rotate it by clicking and holding at the bottom of it and moving the mouse. The area you need to click will be shown by a white semi-circle as in this image:

portal 2 rotate example

This white semi-circle is also used on the other rotate-able elements in the map editor.

Can I return a game if the vendor forces me to buy DLCs to play competitavely? [closed]

Question

This is more of a legal question regarding DLCs in games.

Here is why I ask:

Now with Street Fighter x Tekken coming out and providing a new Gem system with many DLCs to come I fear I cannot compete with other players buying expensive more powerful gems (DLC).

I mean I buy a game for 30-50 bucks so I can play online competitively. Until now most DLCs in fighting games are optional, as they don't make you stronger. You get different costumes or new characters. But as all characters are supposed be "balanced". I do not suffer from not buying the DLCs.

Now I heard that Capcom wants to create more powerful gems and sell them. There are AFAIK currently no game modes that allow to play without gems, so I will be forced to play with inferior gems.

Furthermore, especially for PC, many shops do not allow you to return a game once you have played it. I want to buy SFxT in about 2 months for PC once it is released.

I don't think this is fair. The vendor must provide a game mode that allows me to play on a same level with other players and make buying DLCs optional. I as a customer want to buy the game and play as long as I want with the status quo (Situation on release date). I cannot see into the future how the balancing will change with new expensive DLCs I do not want to buy.

Basically my question is: Do I have a legal chance to return the game if for example after 1 month of playing a certain expensive and very powerful DLC is realeased and I cannot compete with other gamers unless I buy it?

Sure you can argue its just another 5 bucks, but what if next month another similar DLC is released, and the following month too etc.?

Asked by ayckoster

Answer

I'm not a lawyer, this is not legal advice.

I'm going to compare your argument on DLCs to that of expansions for typical games (DLC's are after all, mini expansions). When a game creates an expansion, anyone who doesn't buy the expansion usually gets left behind. For example, when Starcraft: Brood Wars came out, anyone who didn't switch was left behind playing with a significantly reduced (if non-existent) player base. The same thing happens with World of Warcraft. If you don't buy the expansion "Wrath of the Lich King" or "Cataclysm", you will be playing with and against players who have significantly better gear such as "Heirlooms".

I can tell you for sure that you can not return any Blizzard game if you agree to the EULA and TOC. Once you open the box it can not be returned.

Does the order have to be in a certain condition for me to return it?

Games must be returned new and unopened in their original sealed box.

source

If you've already enjoyed the game to some extent, you're not going to have much luck returning it. I've felt the same way personally, when I played Halo: ODST I felt the 5 hours of gameplay I got out of it was a "ripoff" for $70, but I still played the game that the developers set out for me.

Your only option is to sell the game. Unfortunately, PC games are hard to sell because of the complicated licensing arrangements you unwittingly make with them, and console games are going that route as well (locking you out of multiplayer if you buy it second hand).

My best advice is to:

  • Research games and companies before purchasing
  • Don't support companies in the future that make decisions you don't agree with
  • Contact companies with your concerns - you may be suprised
  • Accept that you pay for what you get in the box and nothing more

Will the DLC for Mortal Kombat 2011 affect achievement completion?

Question

There are several achievements in the newest Mortal Kombat game that require you to do something with every single character. These include:

  • Arcade Champion - complete arcade mode with all fighters
  • e-X-cellent! - land every playable fighter's X-Ray attack
  • Finish What You Start! - perform a Fatality with all playable fighters
  • My Kung Fu Is Stronger - gain mastery of all fighters
  • The Grappler - perform every fighter's forwards and backwards throws
  • Ultimate Humiliation - perform every fighter's hidden finishing move

Will downloading the extra characters offered through the DLC affect the requirements for these achievements if you have not received them yet?

For example, if I have completed Arcade Mode with everyone except Sub-Zero, without the DLC, once I finish with arcade mode with Sub-Zero, I would normally receive "Arcade Champion."

Let's say I download Skarlet before I finish Arcade Mode with Sub-Zero. Will I only be awarded "Arcade Champion" once I have finished arcade mode with both characters?

Will this same scenario apply to the other achievements?

Asked by FAE

Answer

The short answer is that OliverBM's assumption seems to be correct and DLC characters are not counted towards these milestone achievements. I would've preferred more authoritative sources, but posted user experiences was the best I could do for most of them.

According to IGN, the Arcade Champion achievement does not include the DLC characters, but does include the unlockable characters:

Tag Ladder does count: You get this achievement when you beat the standard or tag ladder with each of the non-DLC 27 characters (28 on the PS3 version). You can use as many continues as you wish, and you can do this on any difficulty level.

According to this answer, Finish What You Start! does not include DLC characters, but note from reading elsewhere that it does include the unlockable characters:

And no, DLC characters dont count towards the trophy.

According to this thread on xbox360achievements.org, My Kung Fu Is Stronger does not include the DLC characters, but does include the unlockable characters:

-#112, just to be absolutely clear, even if I have the DLC characters, it only counts towards the originals?

-that is correct

According to this post, e-X-cellent!, The Grappler, and Ultimate Humiliation do not include the DLC characters**, but from reading elsewhere do include the unlockable characters:

It seems that DLC characters are not needed for trophies, I got milestone trophies (Finish What You Start !, Ultimate Humiliation, The Grappler, e-X-cellent...) without playing with Rain, Kenshi, Skarlet and Freddy.

How to turn off Portal 2 Xbox skin?

Question

I got one of the preorder DLC packs for Portal 2 on Xbox 360 that gave the Robots skins that could be applied to them. I was wondering if their was a way to turn off this skin without deleting the actual DLC content?

Asked by user1207381

Answer

There is - equip anything such as a hat or flag or skin. The devs have not shown the love for the unfortunates plagued with the ill-designed roll-cage DLC. They said they would fix it, but I don't see it in my inventory so I'm not leaving my co-op bots bare.

If you're too cheap to buy robot enrichment bobbles and doodads (I know I am), the free ones (which happen to be easy to get) are:

Bionic Beanie: Earn the “Lunacy” Achievement. You’ll get this achievement, and the unlockable, when you complete Portal 2′s single player campaign.

WCC Flag: Earn the “High Five” Achievement, which you get for completing the first co-op course in Portal 2.

Dead island DLC availability

Question

I Got the 2 DLC(Ryder White and Bloodbath Arena) for dead island, but when are they available for me to play?

Do I have to complete the game or get to a specific locations?

Asked by Arremer

Answer

All new blueprints and weapons are added to your game with the install of the DLC.

Ryder White

According to the Dead Island Wiki, this DLC was released on February 1, 2012.

As you can clearly see in this video, you can access this content by selecting Ryder White at the character select screen at the start of a new campaign.

Bloodbath Arena

Bloodbath Arena as described on the Dead Island Wiki states:

...the DLC was available for download on November 22, 2011

The arena is accessed from the resort jungle tunnel entrance, there is a door labeled "Arena Entrance" at the mouth of the tunnel. After entering for the first time, it is then found on the Fast Travel screen.

What level is advised to play Mass Effect's Bring Down The Sky DLC?

Question

Mass Effect's free DLC (on the PC at least) Bring Down the Sky, adds a new system right by the Citadel, Local System and the starter planets of Feros and Noverria.

Is it possible/realistic to play this DLC straight away as a starter character, or should I wait until I've levelled up a bit? If so, what level will it still be a challenge at? I don't want to come back to it at level 50 and find that I can just stroll through it without a challenge.

Is there a rough range of levels where this is possible but still a fun (rather than frustrating) challenge?

Asked by GAThrawn

Answer

It is possible but inadvisable to play Bring Down the Sky from the very beginning. While certainly doable (I've done it myself) you're probably going to end up reloading a dozen times or more over the course of the mission.

The Batarians are no pushoevers, and you've got the always "lovable" varren to deal with, who have a nasty tendency to sneak up behind you and eat you through shields. There is also the issue of one of the torch bunkers spawning rocket drones nigh-continuosly until you take out all the batarian engineers - and everyone knows what sorts of naughty things close-quarter rockets due to Shepard, shielded or not.

I would recommend a level of about 25-30 -- the goal is that you have enough abilities by that point to survive a little longer than you might otherwise. But, level alone isn't the best indicator of difficulty in this game; if you've already beaten the game once, you should have the VII spectre master weapons available as soon as you can afford them, and a good gun and good knowledge of cover will serve you better than the extra 100 health successive levels will give you.

If I download the Resurgence pack, will the new weapons be available in single player?

Question

The Resurgence Pack is now available in most places for Mass Effect 3. Included in the pack are three brand new weapons:

Will these weapons be made available to my Shepard for use in single player? If so, how?

Asked by MBraedley

Answer

As you can see by clicking on weapon links you can acquire them only in multiplayer.

  • "Acquisition: Multiplayer: Randomly rewarded by purchasing a multiplayer item pack after the Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack has been downloaded and installed."

From Mass effect official site

  • "first multiplayer expansion"
  • "deadly weapons, new consumables, and powerful characters for each class in multiplayer"

Do actions in “Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot” affect challenges?

Question

I've been playing through Borderlands again, trying to complete all the missions. Occasionally, I've unlocked challenges in the game like "Not Really a People Person" (Kill 250 Humans). Some of these challenges are quite time-consuming and since I have yet to complete "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot", I was wondering, do kills and other actions in the underdome count towards challenges?

Asked by NT3RP

Answer

Yes, they do count. I've completed a human kills challenge in a Riot Arena. The Borderlands Wiki article on this DLC has this to say (emphasis added):

No experience is gained from kills inside the Underdome and consequently weapon proficiencies are not affected, although it is still possible to complete challenges for experience.

At what point is the “Final Save” created for import to Mass Effect 3?

Question

I'm assuming that the endgame save or final save or whatever you want to call it for Mass Effect 2 is created after your decision regarding the Collector Base.

What I wish to know, is: will it re-save with new information based on any DLC I complete?

For example, if I finish the main mission, and then proceed to finish the Arrival DLC, will my final save be updated so that in ME3 it knows I finished the Arrival DLC?

The reason I ask is because I know there could be some effect in ME3 based on what you did in DLC, so if my final save (I'm almost there) doesn't update, then that means that I'll want to complete all of the DLC before taking the fight to the collectors.

Asked by Mr Smooth

Answer

Every Mass Effect 2 save file has a "QuestCompletion" variable that can be one of three values. Gibbed's save editor has dubbed these, "Quest Incomplete", "Lived To Fight Again", and "Went Out in a Blaze of Glory".

There is no "mission complete" save generated by ME2 like there is in ME1. Instead, every save file has this variable in one of the three states. Presumably, only saves where Shepard "Lived to Fight Again" will be viable to import, as Bioware has previously stated dead Commander Shephards won't be importable into ME3. (And obviously, you can't import without beating the game).

(Related: http://gaming.stackexchange.com/a/52493/336)

When importing into Mass Effect 3, you get to pick the actual save to import (i.e., quick, auto, or manual). Your save is always current, so there should be no worry about keeping your save "updated", other than simply saving normally from playing the game.

What are the sources for every piece of Mass Effect 3 DLC?

Question

I'm getting lost in the sea of Mass Effect 3 DLC. From what I understand, there are numerous sources for DLC codes that allow access to in-game content like new weapons, skins, maps, missions, etc. These sources include pre-order bonuses from various retailers, Collector's Edition content, purchasable in-game content from the "normal" sources (Xbox Marketplace, Orign, etc.), and many others.

I realize this is an involved question begging for an involved answer, but what are all the required sources for every piece of in-game content DLC? Does EA keep a running list of this information?

As a corollary question, is any of the DLC now unavailable due to the game being past the preorder state or other reasons?

Asked by johnjon

Answer

There's a bunch of stuff that is pre-order or only came with the Collector's Edition:

  • AT-12 Raider - Origin pre-order bonus
  • M-55 Argus - Pre-order bonus for select retailers
  • N7 Warfare Gear - Pre-order bonus for select retailers
  • Robotic Dog - Collector's edition
  • Squad Outfit pack - Collector's edition
  • N7 Weapons pack - Collector's edition
  • N7 Hoodie - Collector's edition

These are all single player items. The Collector's edition and pre-order bonuses are currently unavailable outside of pre-ordering the game or buying the collector's edition.  No news on whether or not those of us with the "regular edition" will be able to buy them at a later date.

There's a couple of single player items that you can get for free by playing the Kingdoms of Amalur demo:

  • Chakram Launcher
  • Reckoner Knight Armor

There's a Battlefield 3 Pack (a set of multiplayer items) that you can only get by having Battlefield 3 activated to the same account as Mass Effect 3.

There's also the "From Dust" DLC (a single player mission + a new squadmate) which came with the deluxe/collectors editions but is available to anyone (from day 1) for around $10.

In addition to these items, there's a number of Razer ME3-branded items that come with special codes/unlocks for multiplayer.

On top of these, there's a whole set of Mass Effect 3 toys that you can buy, and each one comes with a similar code for multiplayer to the Razer items.

One tally of all the DLC for Mass Effect 3 listed the grand total at $870! However, the codes that come with the Razer gear and the toys are more along the lines of the "booster packs" you can buy in the multiplayer in-game shop, so I wouldn't consider them anywhere approaching essential.

Can Mass Effect 2 Saves and DLC be used on multiple Xboxes with the same Live Profile?

Question

I have one XBox 360 in my house, and plan to buy a second console for my office (across the country). I'm playing Mass Effect 2 (using Cloud Storage for Saves). I've bought all of the DLC and thus far have done all of my playing on my primary console.

I'm trying to determine if I will be able to download all of the DLC to the second XBox and continue to play no matter which location I'm in. Basically I want to be able to continue playing/progressing even as I travel from location to location.

I'm fairly confident that my Cloud based saves will work just fine, but it's very hard to pin down the policy on DLC and multiple XBoxes. Obviously I'll be using the same Xbox Live Profile in both locations.

Will I have to buy the Cerberus Network for the second Xbox? Will I have to re-buy all of the DLC?

Note: I also plan to use this same setup when I transition into ME:3.

Asked by bconneen

Answer

You should be fine in re-downloading the DLC to the second console assuming you can sign into Xbox Live with the same profile it's licensed to. The content is licensed to your profile as well as to the original console it was purchased/downloaded on, so if you can sign in on another console, then it will let you use it on that console while signed in.

Also, I confirmed that the Cerberus Network appears to load fine on a second console without having to download anything. I'm assuming it must be tied to the EA Profile which is linked to your Xbox Live profile, and doesn't require any sort of download.

When to install Borderlands DLCs?

Question

I just got Borderlands Game of the Year Edition in the mail today. The game comes with all four DLCs. When should I install these DLCs? Would I just install the main game, complete it and then install the DLCs one at a time in release order (if that's even possible. Not sure if you need to install all four DLCs)?

Asked by SimonBS

Answer

There's no disadvantages to installing them all now in any order.

You access the DLCs from the Teleport menu and can completely ignore them until you want to play them. However Mad Moxxie's DLC gives you instant access to a bank to store items in (GREAT for keeping spare guns/COMs) and Knoxx's Armory DLC boosts the level cap by 10 levels just by installing it.

You don't have to play these DLCs at all to get these benefits, though you do have to enter Mad Moxxie's area to store items in the bank, but there are no quests that you have to do to get the bank. You can warp to Moxxie's underdome and store items immediately.

Do any Mass Effect / Mass Effect 2 bonus items carry over to ME3? Which ones?

Question

I have seem some suggestions that ME2 bonus content is carried over into ME3, but I can't seem to find any details as to what might also make an appearance. I spent a lot of time collecting ME2 bonus items through the various online promotions, and I'm wondering if which (if any) gear will be available in ME3 and how to access it if so?

Asked by Christi

Answer

Nope. Absolutely none of the bonus armor items carry over between games. On the other hand, all of the bonus armor items are available to be purchased again, even the Pepsi promotional items that were hard for non PS3 users to get their hands on.

Agent86 corroborates that here: Do I need to have downloaded the Cerberus Armor in mass effect 2 in order to buy it in mass effect 3?

How do I buy Mass Effect 3 DLC on PC?

Question

Now I may be missing something obvious, but there is Day 1 DLC for Mass Effect 3 on PC, and I can't see any way of easily buying it. Despite the latest Origin update which claims to allow the purchase of DLC from within Origin, it doesn't seem to be listed anywhere in there. Ideally I'd like to pay in real money rather than by buying points in irregular quantities.

Asked by Christi

Answer

In Origin, go to Mass Effect 3 and hit the 'i' icon in the lower left corner of its box. Should open a game summary page. This page will have a 'Shop for Add-ons' button in the upper right. Click it, select the DLC and hit purchase. You have to pay in points though, but can buy just enough points to cover it, so you won't be left with extra useless points.

Alternatively you can select 'Downloadable Content' from the main menu to the game to find and purchase the content.

Can I use Mass Effect 3 DLC while offline?

Question

Every time I open Mass Effect 3, it connects to the EA network with the message "Validating DLC". For something like the Pre-order guns, I don't see this as being a big deal, but for something bigger, like an entire DLC Squadmate, I don't want to be "always online" just to use my Rastafarian squadmate.

Do I still have access to unlocked DLC while offline? Do I lose access to unlocked DLC if I load a save file with the DLC while offline?

This, in my mind, is a dealbreaker when it comes to buying the darn things in the first place...

Asked by Raven Dreamer

Answer

I haven't verified the work around, but I can confirm that on a PC with origin, if you have any kind of DLC linked to your account you must be connected to the internet long enough to load your save. If you are disconnected at any time prior to that you will not be able to load your save or do anything really except start a new game.

Short answer: No offline play with DLC.

Where does the From Ashes DLC mission start?

Question

I haven't been able to actually play Mass Effect 3 too much yet and was wondering how to start the From Ashes DLC so when I jump back on I can. I've never actually been able to start dlc's on the the previous game. It would help me if someone would point out when and where these extra events occur throughout the game.

Answer

Look for the mission called Priority: Eden Prime. Assuming you have the DLC installed, this should be available to you in the game as soon as you board the Normandy and can use your Galaxy Map.

It is, in fact, the first thing I did upon having a choice about where to go.

As a heads up, there is a bonus mission on that planet called Eden Prime: Resistance Movement. Make sure you've done everything possible on that before completing the main DLC mission, as it appears you can not return to Eden Prime later if you missed anything.

Overlord DLC Achievement: Data Hound

Question

Where are the Data Packets for the Data Hound Achievement? And if I've missed one can I return to get it later?

Asked by Rapida

Answer

From the Xbox360Achievements.org Guide:

  1. Do a sharp right and you will find a metal platform with two turrets. Destroy the two turrets and collect the packet on the platform. This area is marked by two giant stone pillars.
  2. Go straight ahead and you will see a waterfall to your right. Hover behind the waterfall and you will see the packet on a metal platform.
  3. Go straight ahead till you meet a fork and go to the right. You will find a metal platform guarded by two turrets. Destroy them and obtain the packet on the platform.
  4. Same as previous, but take the left of the fork instead. Follow the path till you see a metal platform with two turrets on them. By now, you know what to do with them. The packet is on the platform.
  5. Go left and you will see shadowed area with a waterfall. Fly down by the waterfall and you will find the packet guarded by two Geth Mechs. Missiles ahoy at them.
  6. Go left, heading towards Vulcan Station. You will find a metal platform by the cave entrance. The packet is there.

The site also has a video showing the locations.

Once you've left the planet, you can't return. So you must get the data packets while doing the mission. IIRC all packets are accessible as soon as you get into the vehicle, so it's a good idea to get the packets as soon as you can so you don't forget to get them later.

Is there an easy way to figure out which DLCs have you bought already?

Question

Assume you bought a game on steam and 7 out of 10 DLCs that are available for that game. When you go (in the steam application) to "LIBRARY" -> "game XY" -> "DLC", you get a list of all DLCs that are available for the game XY but none of the DLCs are marked as bought or not... (?!) At least I don't see any marks. If you click on a specific DLC though, you get "You already own XY", or the "Buy XY" depending on having/not having the DLC.

Is there an easier way to find out which DLCs you are missing than clicking to each DLC? Perhaps a place (that I haven't found yet) with a list of all the DLCs available for that game and some small icons that would tell you if you have that DLC or not?

I am asking because if a game has lots of DLCs, it is a bit tiresome to click and check all of them.

Answer

I have found that the easiest way to do this is to do it as follows:

  1. Go to the Steam Store page for the game in question. For the DLC, you should see a heading. If there are several items, click on the "See All" arrow in the lower right. steam 1

  2. Click the "Add all DLC to cart" button in the lower right. steam 2

  3. It will then automatically take you to the shopping cart checkout page. If you already own the piece of DLC in question, you will see "You already own this game" underneath the name of the DLC. In the example here, you can see that I own the Civilization and Scenario: Korea pack, but not the one underneath it, the Wonders of the Ancient World Scenario pack. enter image description here

Unfortunately, there's no way to mass remove items from your shopping cart, so you'll then have to click on each "Remove" link in order to remove it from your list. However, it's the easiest way I've found to see at a glance what DLC you have and don't have.
