How to cross the room with symbols on the floor

Question

What is the logic behind the room with the symbols on the floor in the French Chateau? I realise I need to follow the directions in the journal, but it seems that even when I take exactly the same path I fail at different points.

Answer

The solution is given in Ashley's answer, but here's the logic: your notes give you how many of each tile design you need to step on, from bottom to top. There's only one path that lets you step on exactly that many of each tile in sequence, which is given in Ashley Nunn's answer.

C64 game where you take over other robots?

Question

Can anyone remember the name of this Commodore 64 game?

The game is set on a spaceship which has been taken over by hostile robots. You have to use your robot to destroy the hostile robots. You take-over / possess hostile robots by playing a mini puzzle game. The game has a series of lights in the middle and you have to change the lights to your colour, you do this by connecting the lights through circuits on your side of the screen. The robot you are trying to take over does the same on its side of the screen.

Some of the robots you take over had guns / lasers that you could use to shoot other robots instead of taking them over.

Other features:

  • Top-down view, robots are circles with a number to indicate model
  • Spaceship has different levels accessed by lifts
  • Levels had different coloured backgrounds, background went dark grey when you cleared the level.

Answer

Paradroid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradroid

Here's a link to a port of it if you fancy a bit of a replay on Windows or Linux: http://paradroid.sourceforge.net/

I used to love it - great game - although I found it ridiculously difficult. The circuit board minigame was very inventive, especially as the level of the other robot compared with you affected how many moves you could make compared with it.

Higher level robots couldn't be controlled for very long, so you had to keep switching from one robot to the next.

I almost completed the ship once, but I think there were another 7 ships or something to do afterwards!

What is the answer to the riddle in the necromancer training room?

Question

In Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes there is a riddle in the necromancer training room where a skeleton asks you to enter a two-digit number. The number he wants "matches" the number of spider legs, brass coins, and "broken time".

On the walls of the room are three murals, one of a spider with seven legs, one of three hourglasses of which one has fallen and broken, and one of five coins.

I have tried 13, the obvious answer, with no luck. I have also tried 15 assuming the two standing hourglasses still count as "broken time". Neither worked.

(I am playing on the DS but I imagine if the Xbox 360 / Playstation 3 versions follow the same campaign, the riddle has not changed.)

Answer

I did this one yesterday.. I remember being stuck at that part, but as far as I remember, it's the consecutive amount..

So 7 legs and two shiny coins plus one broken hourglass = 10

Do I need to get all puzzle pieces in Braid?

Question

For example in the first level I got like 10 out of 12 pieces, so I didn't complete the puzzle, but I could still go to the next level.

So how do the puzzles work?

Can I get them all into one level, or do I need to go trough the next levels and the come back with magic or something to get the first ones? :)

Because on the 1st level there are 2 pieces impossible to get..

Answer

You can progress to the next level whenever you reach the end of the current level (no matter how many puzzle pieces you got).

However, to progress to the final level (up the ladder in the house) you will need to complete each puzzle board as each board completed adds another piece of ladder that you will be able to climb.

On the 1st level there are 2 pieces impossible to get..

There are no puzzles in Braid that must be completed using something you collect in a later level, all pieces can be gotten consecutively, you just need to figure out how, as some of them are very tricky.

How do I keep from bleeding to death after I punch this window?

Question

I'm playing Cryptozookeeper.

I need to retrieve an ape, and circumstances suggest the correct course of action is to punch this window so that I can break into the facility where it's being held. As soon as I do so, my companions are aghast, and I begin bleeding profusely.

At this point, I only have a few turns to address my medical condition.

I've tried checking the room for medical supplies, but all I've found is a receipt in a filing cabinet. Before getting too much further, I bleed to death.

How do I keep this from happening? Is there a better way into the building?

Answer

There is some industrial compound inside a box in the room that you enter. If you go to take it, it will heal your hand up.

What's the optimal solution to the Breaker's Barracks challenge?

Question

In Bastion, I'm gunning for the top prize at the Breaker's Barracks, where I need to pop all the balloons in the room in as few shots as possible.

enter image description here

What's the best solution to this puzzle? By this I mean the solution which pops all the balloons in as few shots as possible.

Answer

Once you've upgraded the Breaker's Bow, you can do it in 5 shots and get the first place reward.

Breaker's Bow Challenge: easy solution for first place

For ease of hitting each row, I recommend charging up a shot, getting into position, then cycling through the targets until you are targeting the last balloon in the row. It makes getting the first 4 rows much easier than trying to eyeball your aim when locked on the front one.

As for theoretical best, you might be able to do it in 4 shots:

Breaker's Bow Challenge: solution for fewest shots

The problem with that method, however, is that you can't use the "aim for the last balloon" trick described earlier since they all won't fit on the screen. As such, the difficulty is increased... and in the end, it's not necessary to get first, anyway.

Completing the final room of "Kumoon"?

Question

Ok, first, a bit about the game. Kumoon is a small 3D game where you control a chick through various rooms of stacked blocks. the goal is to knock all of the red blocks down by shooting them, or pushing them with other blocks. I wouldn't be surprised if nobody else here has played this little 3D physics gem, but if you have, maybe you can help me out.

I cannot figure out how I'm supposed to pass the final room (room 39) of this game. I've tried everything I can think of, but no luck. Any ideas?

Screenshot of the game. Looks fun, dunnit?

Note: Even if you haven't played Kumoon before, I sincerely suggest you give it a try. It's a tiny download, and surprisingly entertaining. It should only take you maybe 45 minutes to get through it the first time, depending on how quickly you get the hang of it, however make sure you read the Kumoon homepage for information about scoring, or else you'll be completely lost on how it works.

Answer

There is a walktrough

Try it =)

How do I get the treasure in the Waterways secret section of Aquan Ruins(3-7)?

Question

Having braved deadly lava pools and spooky silent churches, I would have never thought that I would find myself stuck in the waterways crawling around in search of treasure, yet here I am.

I bought myself a hint and it told me that I should...

"Be merciful. This time."

However, I've tried killing only the ghosts without inflicting any harm on the poor hedgehogs that run around throughout the whole level, since killing them is not required to complete the level. This is how I interpreted the hint, and yet this seems to not be the solution since I haven't gotten the treasure.

I've also tried fishing around the Waterways but that seems irrelevant to the hint and nothing special seems to happen.

How do I find the secret treasure here?

Answer

Your objective is to not hurt any enemies, and consequently go to the exit. Not even skeletons are fair game. Furthermore, if a hedgehog falls into the water, its death also counts against you. You simply need to reach the raft at the exit without letting any enemies get hurt, and the treasure is yours to claim.

I find the best way to do this is to just use Speedboots and run along the railing on the side of the Waterways that you begin on. You will be far enough from the water to not let any Hedgehogs drown, but you won't be crashing into Ghosts or Skeletons. Note that once you do claim the treasure, your only recourse to get back and actually clear the stage is to take an unceremonious dive into the depths. As this is a Time Trial stage, make sure to set the rest of your equipment as needed to dispatch your foes.

Your prize is useful, though.

The prize is the Coin Emblem, which gives you the powers of CAPITALISM to increase the amount of coins that enemies drop. It is an Emblem, so you can only equip one Emblem at a time, but the Cat Statue is not an Emblem, allowing you to equip both for a nice combo if you need money.
