How do I turn off Wii remote sounds?

Question

Once in a while I play games with headphones on to avoid disturbing others around me. This works well except with the Wii when games play certain sounds through the Wii remote controllers rather than through my TV's speakers.

Is there a way to turn those sounds off? If so, how do I do it?

Answer

After pressing the Home button on the Wii Remote, click on the Wii Remote Settings option at the bottom of the screen. You'll be presented with a volume setting for the Wii Remote's internal speaker.

Where can I obtain downloadable Minecraft sounds?

Question

Does anyone know where one could obtain Minecraft sounds?

Particulary - I need the creeper fuse/expl. sound, I'd like to put it as my cellphone ringtone to creep out my fellow minecrafters. :D I guess any format will do.

thank you

Answer

The sounds are stored in %appdata%\.minecraft\resources. They're in ogg format, so if you need to convert them, you could use something like this online converter: media.io

I think the creeper fuse sounds are in newsound\mob (creeper1.ogg to creeper4.ogg). The explode sound is in random (explode.ogg).

Will I miss anything important if I turn the sound off?

Question

In the Dwarf Fortress options menu, the Music and Sound option allows you to set the desired volume, however this is a single option that will turn off both music and sound is set to 0.

For the moment I would like to play without the music on, but as a new player, I'm a bit worried that I might miss something important if I do this, like a sound effect indicating that something fun has happened.

Will turning the sound off affect anything other than the music volume?

Answer

No. The only sound in the game is the music. If you turn the sound off, you'll miss nothing beside a guitar track by the creator of the game himself.

Bioshock has no sound in Windows 7

Question

I just bought a new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Everything is peachy except Bioshock: it has no sound after the game starts.

I've searched on Google but can't find a definitive answer; or else the definitive answer doesn't work.

I tried changing the configuration file to use a different sound output system.

I tried using compatibility mode.

Nothing seems to work. The game worked well for me on Vista.

Any suggestions?

Answer

Try enabling the so-called "Stereo mixing":

(from http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showpost.php?s=2ab258ea92a1bfbe6c783657b3633730&p=255517&postcount=1)

To do this, browse to Start > Control Panel > Sound (in classic view). Once done switch to the Recording tab which will show the currently active inputs on your system (e.g. Line in, Microphone). Right click in the clear space below these devices and select the option for Show disabled devices.

This should show an additional device called Stereo Mixing, right click on this device and select Enable.
