What source material is Lego Star Wars 3 based on?

Question

I've seen neither the Clone Wars TV show nor the movie, so I'm at a loss for what is happening in most of the cutscenes in Lego Star Wars 3. If I wanted to understand them, would I need to watch both the shows and the movie, or is the game based on just one of them?

Asked by Bryson Duda

Answer

The game is based on the Clone Wars movie, seasons 1 & 2 of the series and a bit of the Attack of the Clones film.

As with other similar LEGO games, knowing the source material isn't necessary to understand the game, even if you do know the story, you'll see the games like to make liberal interpretations of it. In fact, the first Star Wars LEGO game, which was based on Episodes I-III, came out before Ep. III was even in theatres. I don't think LucasFilm would've allowed that if they thought it will spoil the film in any way.

Is it normal that computer controlled characters in LEGO Star Wars III do not fight?

Question

Is it normal that the characters that may be controlled in-game don't fight, when a player isn't switched to them? (For example Anakin, when you're playing as Kenobi in the prologue.)

Answer

That is normal, in all of the various LEGO games. The computer controlled characters will only do something when it is absolutely required in order to move the game forward (such as switches that have to be pulled at the same time).

They will not fight. If you play single player it is completely up to you to win the battles.

Why does LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars have different ESRB ratings between the DS and 3DS?

Question

What's the deal regarding ESRB ratings of LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars in the DS and 3DS formats? I ask, because I need an explanation that can get this game past a picky mom of a <10 kid.

The DS version shows as a "E" rating.

The 3DS version shows an "E 10+" rating.

The links above both say "Cartoon Violence" and "Comic Mischief", and I can't imagine that there is any real difference. I saw this game in a store, and I was certain that it said "Cartoon Violence" and "Crude Humor".

Answer

The ESRB site lists summaries for the titles they rate. There are differences in the descriptions of the game for each platform (3DS, DS, PSP, Windows PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii); specifically, the 3DS version includes:

Laser sounds, large explosions, and battle cries can be heard during the sometimes frenetic combat;

while the DS version doesn't.
