How do I use the Undermounted Shotgun attachment for assault rifles?

Question

In call of duty: modern warfare 3 (PC version) when playing multiplayer. You can select at weapon level 20 the shotgun attachment for the assault rifle.

How do you fire it?
Does it happen automatically or do you need to use a hot-key ?

Asked by François

Answer

To use an undermounted weapon attachment (either a grenade launcher or a shotgun) you'll need to activate it - this is similar to switching weapons, although it's generally a bit faster than raising or lowering a secondary.

I believe this key can be configured, but by default it is 3. Once you've switched to the unermounted attachment, fire it just like you would any weapon.

Is it possible to play Street Fighter X Tekken with 2 players online on one PC?

Question

The XBox360 version allows only one player to play online, so if you want to play online with your buddy (same team), you basically need 2 XBox360s each with a copy of the game.

Will the PC version be the same? Do I need 2 PCs with one copy each to play 2 player tag team online?

Asked by ayckoster

Answer

No. Similar to the Xbox360 version, same system online co-op will not be available on the PC version.

Using the Courtesan in multiplayer on PC

Question

For a long time since I've been playing, I had the feeling that the Courtesan was just not a selectable character in multiplayer on the PC. I know that console players have been able to choose her but it never seemed like PC players were able to. Some people say that you need to be at level 50 so she would be unlocked -- I think they're talking about Brotherhood. But I've seen videos of people less than 50 and were playing as Courtesan and I've already gotten past level 50 once and am currently at level 40 -- working my way to prestige -- and I have yet to be able to choose her. She doesn't even appear in the roster as unlockable. What gives? I've seen similar questions on the net, all not really having a right answer as they answer from a console player's perspective.

Now, I've seen a player online and they were using the Cortesan! They've prestiged once already (at level 48 and about to prestige again) so I'm guessing I must prestige once before she's available? Or maybe it's just a coincidence since the first DLC has been out and she's a bonus?

Can anyone verify if this is true or know exactly when she may be used on PC?

Asked by Jeff Mercado

Answer

She can only be unlocked if you have:

  1. Played Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
  2. Linked your UPlay account for both games to the same account

From the wiki:

"The Courtesan can only be unlocked in Assassins Creed: Revelations if you have played Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood."

When does Sabotage fail in Multiplayer?

Question

I recently tried out the Quarian Infiltrator in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer and turning the Geth against each other worked really, really well. But I observered that a few times my Sabotage power didn't seem to work on some enemies anymore.

What limits does the Sabotage power of the Quarian Infliltrator have? Why does it sometimes not work against synthetic enemies like the Geth?

Asked by Fabian

Answer

I played around in a solo-multiplayer session a bit and found the reason why Sabotage seems to fail sometimes. The duration of Sabotage decreases significantly each time you apply it on the same enemy. So the first time you sabotage a specific enemy you get the full duration, but if the enemy survives that and you sabotage him again, the duration will be much shorter than the first time. It seems to be roughly halved each time you reapply sabotage.

After 4 times sabotage seems to lose any effect on that specific enemy, and this is not specific to Geth Primes or other superior enemies, you can observe that with any Geth trooper. The reason it seems to happen especially often with Geth Primes is that most other enemies just don't survive long enough so that you have to use sabotage that often on them.

How do I create a custom game with spectators?

Question

is it possible to create a custom multiplayer game that has spectators? I would mainly like to run a 1v1 against AI and have human spectators look at it. Is this possible, and if so, how? General info on spectators is also wellcome.

Asked by PeterK

Answer

Create the the custom game, ensure the game mode is set to 1v1, add the AI opponent who will join team 2, and finally, click +Player to invite your friends to spectate.

You can right click on players in the game lobby and force them to spectate or nominate them as a referee. Referees are spectators with the ability to chat with players.

When are Galaxy At War N7 Operation Bonuses awarded?

Question

I would like to know when do you get the commendation pack for completing an N7 Operations weekend -- immediately, or after the operation ends?

Also are the bonuses cumulative?

Asked by AdrieanKhisbe

Answer

So far, the Victory and Commendation packs have always been awarded in the week following the N7 operation, usually on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

N7 weapons earned from Commendation packs are just like any other weapon in multiplayer - they start at level 1, and must be earned again to advance to the cap of level 10. So yes, the awards are cumulative - if you earn an N7 Hurricane I in one operation, you can then earn an N7 Hurricane II in the next, or you could earn an N7 Eagle I instead. It's just the luck of the draw.

What are Borderlands' multiplayer game modes?

Question

I have the game and all of its DLC. I am at level 18 in the single-player.

Do you suggest that I finish the single-player before starting multiplayer? What are Borderlands' multiplayer features/game modes?

Asked by Drake

Answer

The main Multiplayer mode is co-op.

I would level as co-op from now on. It's very fun (up to 4 players), mobs become more difficult and loot is better.

What is nice about co-op is that each player continues to play in their own story but you all play together (for example 3 people help you on your Quest xy but they already did it).

As far as I can remember, the player's game with the least progression is always the game the other players will also play in.

Maximum amount of war assets from “promoting” level 20 multiplayer characters

Question

Promoting a level 20 multiplayer class adds 75 in single-player war assets to your TMR.

If I get to level 20 again (whether its with the same class or a different one), can I promote again to get an additional 75 points?

If so what is the limit to the amount of times I can promote each class?

Answer

There is no limit of how many times you can promote (whether its the same class over and over or different classes). You will gain 75 points of war assets each time and a boost to your N7 ranking.

The only draw back of doing so is you will (very slowly) lock yourself out of seeing any ending other than the best ending if you get some ridiculous amounts of war assets.

Why does the 'favored' rating change from start of game to end of game in Starcraft 2?

Question

Why is it when I start a game and it says the team is 'Favored' or 'Slightly Favored' and then it ends and it is considered even or even my team 'Slightly Favored'? What impacts this? I win where the other team is 'Favored' and I am expecting big points and then it ends and it says 'Even' and I get like 10 points for the win.

EDIT: Ran some tests today in 4v4:

Start End
----- ---
Favored Other Even
Slightly Favored Other Even
Slightly Favored Other Even
Even Even
Even Even
Even Even
Slightly Favored Other Even
Even Even
Slightly Favored Other Slightly Favored Other
Even Even
Slightly Favored Me Slightly Favored Me
Favored Other Even
Even Even

So 5 out of 13 matches, the end weighting did not match the start weighting. Run your own tests in 4s and see what results you get.

Asked by Kelsey

Answer

The discrepancy of the favored indicator before and after the match is listed as a known bug in the blizzard forums by a message from Blizzard Employee Huginncord (Quality Assurance) in the thread "Known Issues 1.4.3 [Updated: 4/11/2012]"

Favored messaging in the load screen sometimes doesn't match the favored messaging in the score screen.

We're investigating reports regarding inconsistent messaging in regards to the Favored status of player teams on the load screen when compared to Favored status on the Score Screen. Thank you for your patience while we look into potential causes for this inconsistency.

What is a good strategy for Reave?

Question

I cannot find any good uses for Reave. From what I understand, it absorbs a little health and weakens them (and while they are weakened, I get a little bit of extra defense).

But it does not work on many things it seems, like Geth Prime. Normally when it hits, it gives me a glowing aura that represents my extra defense. But when I use it on say Geth Prime, nothing happens.

Asked by Zeno

Answer

It's very good for spamming biotic detonations with another biotic, for several reasons:

  1. It has no travel time, so enemies can't dodge it.
  2. It can affect multiple targets, setting up multiple detonation opportunities.
  3. It works as both "set up" and "trigger", unlike e.g. Pull which can only initiate a combo, or Throw which can only work as the "trigger".

It's also good on its own against organic targets, but less useful against synthetics, since you only get the extra defense when it's used against organics.

Why do my proximity mines sometimes prematurely detonate?

Question

When I play my Turian solider in multiplayer, sometimes when I launch a new mine the old one detonates. Sometimes, I can spam them freely even right on top of each other.

I'd like to place as many mines on the map between rounds as I can, but often I can only place one. Occasionally, I can place as many as I want. I thought this might be a mechanic to keep players from spamming mines in spawn points, but this sometimes happens during the rounds as well.

Anybody know what's going on?

Asked by CaulynDarr

Answer

You shouldn't be able to place proximity mines so close to each other. Normally when you try to place a mine next to another one, the older mine will detonate. However, I've noticed glitchy behavior with these things. Sometimes a random mine somewhere else will detonate when you place a mine, and sometimes a mine will not detonate even when an enemy is next to it.

After taking a peek at the Coalesced.bin file for the proximity mines entry, I see the line:

maxactivemines = 3

I guess if you have more than 3 mines then it'll detonate the oldest mine, but due to multiplayer graphic glitches sometimes you'll still see the mine there but it won't trigger anymore.

How can I effectively play a Sentinel in multiplayer?

Question

I've never played a Sentinel at all in any of the games proper, so I have very little experience with their basic playstyle. As most of my experience has been with Vanguards and Adepts, I'm having trouble trying to figure what the Sentinel's strengths are and how best to play to them. I'm playing the Turian Sentinel, as I don't have a Krogan one unlocked yet. The Krogan seems like it'd be more melee-oriented, which would suit my playstyle more I think, but is currently not an option.

So far, I've been playing mostly as a shield/armor remover, using Warp and Overload to burst through enemy defenses. However, Tech Armor seems like it'd be handy, but the 60% hit to my cooldown reduction when using it feels like it really hurts my ability to pump out the debuffs. I mostly only use it during the more static waves, like hacking or disabling indoctrination devices.

I'm unfortunately rather consistently coming in at or near the bottom of the scoreboard when playing with my Vanguard and Infiltrator friends (though having played one, I know Vanguards can be difficult to even come close to in score). I'm level 13 and just don't feel as effective as they are.

Do I need to focus on using my weapons more? I do have difficulty with this, as I barely used weapons at all on my Vanguard. Am I supposed to focus on tanking? What can I do to improve my Sentinel game? Advice for both bronze and silver/gold play is welcome.

Asked by FAE

Answer

You need to work on using your weapons more, they are a class that specialize in taking armor out of enemies and stunning them for a second with overload and than shooting them for the kill.

The tech armor is probably used best for when you use it and have to take some bullets before you can do anything about it. Also helps some on the 11th wave depending on your team, the 30% reduction in damage can help keep you a live a little longer to put the final bullets in enemies.

I typically use the M8 lvl 10 with the sentinel and no other weapons. I put the piercing mod on and the scope. This way I can get an assist in from a distance as a vanguard jumps in for the kill or infiltator kills them.

Overload is probably the best skill, with the stun ability and to take out half the armor or all of the armor of some enemies (not counting, geth prime or atlast). And with them stunned you can zoom in pop em in the head and move on to the next, which by than your overload will be more than ready to hit next target.

Same tactic applies for silver for the most part. For gold I have limited experience there.

Which multi-player packs are more cost effective?

Question

I've seen the list of items in the packs.

What I want to know is that, if I want to build up my inventory of characters, weapons, and upgrades, which of the packs is more cost effective?

I want to get a good mix of useful items, instead of one or two good things or a bunch of useless items.

Asked by CaulynDarr

Answer

Spreadsheet

Spreadsheet Screenshot

Notes

  • According to this answer, values do not increase if you already have all of the items in that category, which should mean that these will remain accurate throughout.
  • The values in the table are estimates and are not actual values. These values are used to predict what is likely better, but without the actual values, this is the best that can be done.
  • Ultra-rare items are set to 0 for Veteran Packs based on the answer provided by rare candy here. I've seen disputes of this, however, so there is a chance that this is not the case. If anyone can show a screenshot of getting an ultra-rare from a veteran pack, that would be helpful.
  • Formula used to calculate values is Cost / Total Percentage which gives the estimated cost per item level for each pack.

Buying with Credits

For obtaining uncommon items, buy a Veteran Pack. With my estimates, Premium Veteran packs offer little to no value in terms of uncommon, but some value in terms of rare items. Spectre packs have a much lower value in terms of uncommon items (based on my estimates) but have a significantly higher value for rare items. Premium Spectre packs, by my estimates offer slightly better value for rare items, and significantly better value for ultra-rare items.

Buying with (MS/Bioware) Points

Again, given my estimates a Veteran Pack and a Premium Veteran Pack offer little to no difference in terms of value. Also, as above, rare value is significantly higher in Spectre packs, but Uncommon value is also significantly lower. Premium Spectre packs are, by my estimates, a better value for both rare (slightly better) and ultra-rare (significantly better) items.

Summary

Buy Veteran packs to obtain Uncommon items, and Premium Spectre packs to obtain rares and ultra-rares. If a Premium Spectre pack is not available, I would recommend a standard Spectre pack for rare and ultra-rare items.

How can I play Asari Vanguard effectively?

Question

The Asari Vanguard is way different than my previous style of play. With Human Vanguard I Charge in, I punch things in the face, and they die. Good times.

But the Asari Vanguard has different Skills; they seem much more focused around firearms than melee. I can't seem to make good use of Lift Grenades or Stasis (and I'm unsure how to upgrade either until I figure it out). The melee shockwave is nice but leaves me vulnerable. The teleport is nice and fast but eats my Barrier.

What can I do to play this character effectively in Multiplayer? What guns should I use and what skills are important?

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

It's my favorite character at the moment at Silver/Gold chalanges. I prefer it to the asari adept, since vanguard is much more versatile.

It's the best to play a supporting role. => Stasis is the most important power. Use stasis to defend your team against enemies. Phantoms for example. Biotic Charge is useful to jump from one point to the other to help your other teammates if they need help. Additionally use it to tank, to take hits, since you can repair your shields (Don't tank much on Gold however, when attacked by large crowds. Could be useful however, to save your squadmate). Grenades are extremely useful too if used right against big hordes of enemies. I throw all three grenades at once some times.

I prefer a shotgun Disciple, since it makes cooldowns really short (160% for Disciple I, gets better with each upgrade). Geth Plasma Shotgun worked well too. You could use a pistol instead, but it's pain in the ... to kill high-level enemies using pistols. Additionally it's good to use it after a Biotic Charge.

Overall, it's not the character that earns many points, but it's extremely helpful for the team.

Does Mass Effect 3 multiplayer care about platform? [closed]

Question

Possible Duplicate:
Can I play multiplayer across different platforms?

Do XBox players and PC players play together in ME3's multiplayer mode? Or are they relegated to distinct games per platform?

Couldn't seem to find anything in the first couple pages of google results when searching about this. It would seem really dumb if PC players only match with PC players and Xbox with Xbox.

Asked by eidylon

Answer

You only play with other players on your platform. They all use different backends (Origin for PC, XBox Live for 360...) and your Multiplayer characters are tied to your console's account (so if your name is Bob on PSN, other players on PSN will see you as Bob), making them unique on that network, rather than tying them only to Origin accounts.

You're still tied to Origin for all Galaxy at War stuff and EA also uses it for DRM for extensions and to prevent cheating.

Can any Geth unit insta-kill in multiplayer?

Question

The Atlus, Banshee, Phantom and Brute can all kill you in one hit if you are close, even at full shields and health. I have not observed such a from the Geth. Can the Pyro or Prime or any other unit kill you in melee with a single attack?

Asked by aslum

Answer

The Geth do not have a unit that can insta kill. However, this is balanced by the multiple units that have high burst damage.

  • Geth Rocket Trooper
  • Geth Hunter
  • Geth Pyro

Also, the banshee's melee animation is quite long and can be interrupted if a biotic explosion is triggered before the impale occurs or if you had a missile launcher ready to take her out (the animation to bring out the missile launcher and to fire takes too long for you to save the party member).

Does Mass Effect 3 use background balancing?

Question

Some games allow balance adjustments to be made without issuing a title update or patch. Monday Night Combat is one example of this (Source). This is especially desirable on Xbox 360, because the certification process for title updates can take months and cost developers a large sum of money.

This thread on BSN lists the balance changes that are slated for Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. Will these balance changes take place behind the scenes (immediately), or will they only occur after a title update or patch is issued?

It seems to me like the easiest way to know for sure would be for an Xbox 360 player with a Quarian Infiltrator to test whether the Sabotage changes have taken place already. I would test this myself but I haven't unlocked that race yet.

Asked by Brysonic

Answer

It seems so.

The thread you mention actually states the listed changes are already implemented. Since there are no patches released that means all changes are done server-side only.

What does it mean to “promote a multiplayer character”?

Question

One of the ways to acquire the "Battle Scarred" achievement is to "Promote a multiplayer character to the Galaxy at War". What does this mean?

Asked by Brysonic

Answer

Once your multiplayer character reaches level 20, you can choose to "Promote" them. It's a bit comparable to the Call of Duty series' "Prestige" system, in that your multiplayer level for that class is then reset to 1, and you level up again to repeat the process.

Promoting imports them into your single-player game as a "War Asset" worth 75 points, which goes towards increasing your Total Military Strength. In addition, playing the Multiplayer maps will add to your Galactic Readiness multiplier. This functionality is what BioWare designed in order to have multiplayer affect your single-player game.

Promoting also adds 10 to your N7 multiplayer rating.

Share Multiplayer World

Question

A buddy and I have been playing Terraria together in a joint world. I hosted and so I have the world and can play in single player when he's not around. He'd like to do the same, is this possible?

I doubt we could both play it and then have it sync up the changes, but is there a way to send him the world file and then when we go to play together copy it back or something along those lines?

My solution:

I have used a combination of the answers below to make this game even more awesome. First I setup a Dedicated server as mentioned by OrigamiRobot. This was super simple and meets my requirements perfectly. I don't mind leaving my computer on all the time with this running. To do this I also had to do a couple of other things unique to my situation:

  • Setup a static route in my router for port 7777 to the machine where I am running the dedicated server
  • Registered with DynDNS.org to get a domain name to be used with my dynamic IP Address
  • I setup the DynDNS account in my router and I was good to go (This is needed so that my friend can ping the domain name and get my current ip address should it change in the future).

Doing that took care of my need to share the world file without us having to sync it between run times.

Looking at the other answers, Kissaki provided me with the folders I needed, and I used flying sheep's answer about symlinks along with Tom Wijsman's suggestion of using DropBox to share my player folder. I use the dedicated server to hold onto the world, but putting my player folder in dropbox allows me to play as the same character regardless of which of my machines I am using.

Asked by theChrisKent

Answer

At the bottom of www.terraria.org there is a link for the dedicated server. If you run that on your computer, he can connect to the world whenever your computer is on.

http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/Server_Console can help set this up.
