Steam version of Fallout / Fallout 2 in a window

Question

I've been looking to run Fallout / Fallout 2 in windowed mode; I have the steam version. Has anyone had any experience getting this to work? I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

Asked by Tyler Szabo

Answer

There is no way to do it with stock Fallout 2, but there are mods available to do it.

For example, this one: Timeslip Fallout 2 engine tweaks for Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Running Costume Quest in Windowed Mode

Question

I play a lot of "casual games" (think Diner Dash), and they all feature a way in their in-game options to run the game in windowed mode.

I bought Costume Quest yesterday for PC from Steam, and wanted to run it in windowed mode, however, unlike other games I play, I cannot find a way to tell the game to run in windowed mode.

Is there just a setting I am missing? Or is it something Steam doesn't allow?

Answer

You should be able to run Costume Quest in windowed mode by setting launch parameters.

To do that in Steam, open your Steam library, right-click on Costume Quest, select Properties, and press the Set Launch Options… button. Enter –window and click OK. The game will now launch and stay in windowed mode until you remove this from your launch options.

Is it possible to run RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 in windowed mode?

Question

Is it possible to run RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 in windowed mode?

I have Windows 7 and the game works, but since my resolution is bigger than the game can handle, I would prefer to play in windowed mode instead of having the game scale.

So is it possible? And how can I activate it?

Thanks

Answer

No, it's not possible at all to run RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 in windowed mode. The only thing I could think of, while drastic, is running the game in a virtual machine like VirtualBox or just Windows 7's XP mode and thereby 'faking' windowed mode. I'm not sure what that'll do to performance though.

How do I run Deus Ex: Human Revolution in windowed mode?

Question

I've been poking around in the options menu, trying to find a option for window mode. But, I can't seem to find any.

So, is there any way to get this game running in windowed mode?

Answer

Fullscreen is not supported out of the box but there is a dirty hack:

  1. regedit in cmd

  2. look for folder computer\H_KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eidos\Deus Ex: HR\Graphics

  3. look for fullscren (double click, set value to 0, LEAVE REGEDIT UP)

  4. open explorer to steam>common>deus ex: human revolution folder

  5. Hold left shift while double clicking dxhr.exe

Important Notes

  1. You have to run this in DirectX 11, anything else seems to make it exremely bright for no reason.

  2. Do not alt-tab, ever. ever, EVER, EVER!

  3. You may have to repeat steps 3 to 5 (which is why you leave regedit up)

  4. You will most likely have to keep repeating this process, I saw someone on reddit earlier say it wasn’t working, you just gotta keep at it brosephs
