How do I get the Walkies achievement?

Question

Jetpack joyride has a new Achievement based on Flash. How can I get Walkies? The description says:

Take Flash on a 10KM Walk

Does this mean I have to travel 10KM in a single run with Flash?

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

First you have to own Flash; he's the robot Dog that costs 8,500 coins in the Gadgets menu. The achievement is only possible with Flash equipped to a Gadget slot.

All you have to do is travel 10,000 meters cumulative with Flash equipped. You don't have to reach 10,000 meters in one run, multiple runs still count toward the total. After you've gained 10km in travel with Flash you'll be awarded the achievement upon your death.

There's a counter in My Profile under Gadgets that lists "Total Distance run by dog"; this is the count that matters. The counter appears to go up whenever Flash runs, not Barry. I'm not sure if it goes up when Flash jumps yet.

Why doesn't Barry shoot his shotgun sometimes?

Question

I noticed something different in Jetpack Joyride. Until now, when you were riding the Bad as hog, Barry would shoot his shotgun at scientists (complete with a one-handed Terminator-style swing reload), but now it seems he just runs over them.

Was this an intended change implemented in a recent update oris it an issue only I experience? Was the game censored or something?

Asked by JohnoBoy

Answer

I noticed this same problem immediately after updating. It seems to be a gltich, after one run with no shotgun Barry has been shooting scientists every time with the hog. Not sure what makes him not shoot, however.

Confirmed just now, version 1.31(1)*. I wore the Barry's Head/Suit and Machinegun Jetpack items if it made a difference, and used the Free Ride gadget to ensure I'd get a vehicle. In the 2 runs I got a Hog, both times Barry used his Shotgun like he used to.

A totally scientific sample of 5 tests seems to indicate that this is caused by your jetpack. With the Golden Piggy Pack Barry doesn't shoot scientists on the Hog, with the Machine Gun Jetpack, Laser Jetpack and Rainbow Jetpack he DOES shoot scientists. He did this twice on each jetpack, so I'm pretty sure this is the cause. As to why, I have no idea. The Golden Piggy Pack is the only jetpack I saw that makes Barry not shoot.

What are the Special Gadget Combos?

Question

I just noticed in the My Profile tab the Gadgets section of your stats lists "Special Gadget Combos found". It my swapping of equips to get Mix and Match I must have unlocked 11 of them.

What's a Special Gadget Combo and what ones are there? Do you get a special effect when using one or are they just gadgets that work well together?

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

The Special Gadget combos give a special title in the Gadgets section on the main Menu. Here are all 20 combos and titles I've found by trying all combinations. Please note that I've used the game's order or gadgets and avoided duplicates, because X + Y combo equals Y + X combo):

  • Air Barrys &
    • Gravity Belt - High Mobility
    • X-Ray Specs - Futuristic Vision
    • Ezy-Dodge Missiles - Air Dodger

What's “Another Way In”?

Question

There's a new achievement and I'm stumped as to how to get it:

Start a game without breaking the laboratory wall

I assume it has something to do with the new Gadgets but none of them sound like they'd help. How do I get this achievement?

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

You need to get all the way up to the free ride gadget, then keep playing games until you get the teleporter vehicle then you can do the achievement.

How can I get Angry Wings?

Question

There's an achievement called Angry Wings I just can't get:

Get the Profit Bird Twice in One Game

I've gotten all the other achievements (except the new gadget ones) ages ago, but I've never managed to get the Profit Bird twice in one game yet. Is there any trick to it? Is there a set rotation of vehicles I need to keep track of to try and catch it twice in one game? Is it totally random?

I just got the X-ray specs so I can track which vehicle each power up contains.

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

Its mostly relies on your luck :/

Try starting the game until first vehicle you get is Profit Bird, then just start destroying all the vehicles as fast as you can,if you survive long enough you will get it again.

You should destroy vehicles because when one is gone new starts to spawn and it is never the same as previous one.

What's a good strategy for completing the “Fly 1750m without collecting coins” mission in Jetpack Joyride

Question

This is the last mission that I have to complete, but I can't seem to come up with a good strategy to complete the mission. I always seem to inadvertently collect a coin or two along the way to 1750m. Is there some sort of winning strategy to complete this mission?

Asked by RESPAWN

Answer

First of all, avoid using any vehicles, they get hard to steer pretty fast and you might pick coins by accident. So unless you are sure you can control your vehicle, either avoid picking them up or destroy them intentionally as soon as possible. In any event, turn off the magnetic vehicle add-ons if you have any.

Use powerups. Buy the Head Start powerup and when using it stay close to the ground. In my experience, 80% of the times you'll reach 750m without any coins. Grab a few Quick Revive powerups as well, use them only if you've reached a significant distance without picking any coins (say, 1250m). In the event you have a choice between death and picking up coins, die and revive yourself. I'd avoid using the Final Blast unless it's a last resort, you may end up collecting coins while you tumble away, in any case, don't use it if you have a Quick Revive unless you've used that first.

Picking up tokens is up to you, they don't count against you, and you might get a revive or a Final Blast in the slot machine, but if you use them and get coins or cash them in you'd lose your mission. I'd say - prefer to use powerups before spinning the wheel for the first time.

The mission isn't that hard, I've completed it successfully several times (I finished all missions 8 times by now), it's just takes a mixture of skill, luck and clever use of powerups.

Does Jetpack Joyride end?

Question

I've noticed increasing sectors numbers in the background of Jetpack Joyride.

Do these sectors ever end? Can you escape with the jet pack?

Answer

30,000 meters then a wall of zapper kills you

Is there any way to control which vehicles I get?

Question

In Jetpack Joyride, there are a few in-game missions that require you to have a specific vehicle. (Some ask you to drive it a certain distance, or to hit a certain number of scientists, etc.)

Is there any way to make sure you get the vehicle you need? Or are you just stuck playing over and over until that vehicle pops up?

Answer

None that I've found. You always have 3 missions though, so you should always be able to work on something.

How do I access the new missions?

Question

There was an update to Jetpack Joyride released today, which makes me consider replaying the game (I lost all my progress when I updated to iOS5).

However, I am a bit confused by how I actually get the new missions.

The update text includes the following:

Please note that the new mission system is only playable AFTER prestiging at least once. If you have already prestiged and get the update, any mission you get after your current missions will automatically transition over to the new ones, yay!

What do they mean by "prestiging at least once"?

Answer

Prestiging in Jetpack Joyride means you have completed various given missions and earned enough stars to level up past level 15. The levels 1-15 require earning progressively more stars to move to the next level. The missions to earn stars are things like:

  • Fly 300M in the Profit Bird in a Single Run
  • Rub your head against the roof for 1000 meters
  • etc.

If you level up past level 15, you will be given the option to Prestige. Once you do so, you get a shiny badge on your profile, and then you should be able to access the new missions in the update.

After you Prestige, Level 16 is like starting back out at Level 1, when you hit level 30, you can Prestige again, rinse and repeat. I do not know if there is a cap, but I'm at level 57 currently.

How do I get the Good Work, Woody achievement?

Question

It says to run into the bottom obstacle three times in a row. I tried running into the lowest zapper I saw as soon as possible three times in a row and that didn't do it. I tried letting missiles hit me as I was walking and that didn't do it.

How do I get this achievement? Am I just missing something really simple?

Answer

You have to die three time by running into a low zapper obstacle without ever flying.
Just start a game and don't press anything (make sure you don't have a head start), most chances the first obstacle you'd hit will be a zapper (missiles don't appear that early), do that three times and the achievement is yours.

What is the name of the genre of games similar to Jetpack Joyride?

Question

I'm trying to figure out what the genre of games is called in which the only (or primary) control is to hold a single down a button to move the vehicle/character up and when letting go of the button, you float or move down. You generally try to avoid obstacles by moving above or below them.

Examples of this genre would be The Helicopter Game, or Jetpack Joyride. There are no doubt many others that you may have run across over time as well. I just didn't know if there was a genre name for them. I've seen things like 'cave flyer' or 'dodging', didn't know if there was anything better or official to classify them.

Answer

They are usually called "endless survival games" and are in the same vein as Canabalt or Robot Unicorn Attack.
