Are there still servers up to play Battlefield 2142 online?

Question

I have just found my old pc game Battlefield 2142(from 2008). Can I still play this game on-line?(I will first have to find serial, so I can't just check)

Answer

Yes. In fact, I re-installed 2142 today and was plesantly surpised to find a large number of server still up and running. You will have to download the latest patch, 1.50, which is over 500MB and may take a while to download. There is a 1.51 Beta but not sure how many server support it.

Dec 2011 - now that Battefield 3 has been released there are only around 20-30 servers online with varying numbers of players. It's best to find one server and stay on that one, then you get to know the "regulars" and it's quite enjoyable with a good squad.

Any tips on getting people to play together in a squad on Battlefield 2 (or 2142)?

Question

I'm tired of joining servers and swapping around in squads looking for other people who want to stick together and play as a team. In my experience, just one good squad can win the whole round while everyone else is fighting over getting in planes and choppers. I'm about to give up and just start forming squads and trying to lead, but I really just want people to play together. Are there any tips for making this happen?

Answer

I can only provide you with some suggestions;

  1. Try to find servers that are focused specifically on team work, search for these on Google or websites dedicated to Battlefield multiplayer.
  2. Contact players whom you've played with that have an interest in team work like yourself and play together frequently on the same server. This is often easier if you know the players i.e. work colleagues, friends etc.
  3. Do try and lead, You can often surprise yourself with how well you can organise things with complete strangers. If you do a job that involves managing different people e.g. emergency services worker, then you will already have the skills to do this. If you are not then doing this can still be very beneficial because it will give you an outlet to practise and improve your communication and logistical skills.

Hope this helps.

Can I use my Battlefield 2142 account to play Bad Company 2 multiplayer?

Question

I had a blast playing Battlefield 2142 and all this recent hype for Battlefield 3 made me go out and get Bad Company 2 for PC. I've tried logging in to BC2 multiplayer with my old 2142 account, but the BC2 interface uses an email instead of the plain username that 2142 accounts used.

Can I convert my BF2142 account into a BC2 account?

Answer

Yes and No - yes you can use your old EA account to play BF2 and no you cannot connect with your 2142 account. Before there were 2 accounts: EA account for game-support etc and 2142 account to log in the game. Now it is just one - EA account (your email address is used a login).

You can access battlefield veteran page and use your 2142 account to get a veteran status for your EA account.

Battlefield 2142: Playable on Recent Macbook Air?

Question

Is it possible to play Battlefield 2142 (Mac version) on the most current version of the Macbook Air? Ideally, I would prefer to play on osX, i.e., not through windows.

Answer

It should be possible. The main factor to consider would be the graphics performance, which, given that the Air has a Geforce 320M should be fine.

The tech specs for Battlefield 2142, according to Apple's downloads page are:

Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later
Intel Core Duo processor or higher
512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
ATI X1600, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, or higher video card (Intel GMA950 chipset not supported)

The tech specs for the Macbook Air:

Minimum 2GB RAM,
Minimum 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor,
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory (meaning it'll deduct the VRAM is needs from your system RAM, which is 2GB minimum)

Should be OK!
