Silent Hill: final boss with almost no ammo

Question

So, I've been playing Silent Hill for the last two days and I finally got to the final boss, Samael (the one that attacks you with the blue lighting).

Somehow I managed to get there with just a few shotgun bullets and about 10 pistol bullets. I also have some rifle ammo but don't have the rifle itself. I can skip the boss attacks forever by running in circles, but I just don't have enough ammo to kill it.

I know about that trick that if you waste all the ammo just before you get to the boss, the game just skips the battle to the final cutscene. But the problem is that I have that extra rifle ammo but not the rifle, so I can't waste the ammo. Damn!

Is there any other trick to beat Samael when you have almost no ammo? Thanks!

Answer

So, in the end I just realized I had screwed up the game, so I restarted it all over again. Played almost four hours straight, this time picking up the damn rifle and saving all the ammo I could till the end, and finished it.

What an incredible game, it was well worth it.

(By the way, the boss was actually Alessa, and I got the bad ending. Will try to get the good one next time -- hopefully I'll be able to finish it a little faster ;)).

How Can I turn off the grain effect in Silent Hill 3 (PC version)?

Question

The question is simple. I tried the sh3 config utility, searched on google and sh wiki but no luck? Do you have any idea?

Please note that I'm playing the original, not the HD version.

Answer

From the game's Options menu, you need to go to the Extra Options Menu where you can turn the noise/grain filter off. On the PS2, you did this with the L1 button as described here. On PC, I'm not sure what button it is, but since the PS2 uses L1 and R1 to turn and the PC version uses Q and E to turn, I would try hitting the Q or E buttons from the Options menu to see if you can access the Extra Options.

How does the Silent Hill HD Collection compare to the original Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3?

Question

Have the story, controls, or game mechanics changed? How were the graphics and voice acting changed?

Asked by sean

Answer

The story, controls, or core gameplay mechanics have remained the same, however there have been various changes in other areas

Silent Hill 2

  • New voice acting, with the choice to use the original voices.

    Comparison video:

  • A lot of the fog has been removed from the town, which was resulted in negative feedback from the original director of the first three games (source).

    Comparison Screen shots:

  • Fog Horn removed from a scene:

Silent Hill 3

  • New voice acting, with no option for the original voices.

Both Games

  • The PS3 version experiences occasional slow down.

  • Finally, here is a video comparison of both games. The graphics in the HD collection seem a little more polished, but I personally don't see a huge difference:

Are any of the Silent Hill Games related ? No Spoilers please

Question

I was a huge fan of Silent Hill 1 + 2 but simply never got round to playing any of the others ... I was wondering if any of the games after 1+2 had connected storylines or characters ? (seeing as there are 8? games now ive found it hard to keep track of everything thats going on in the world of Silent Hill)

Asked by Craig Pilgrim

Answer

3 is a direct sequel to 1. Beyond that, there are some less obvious connections and thematic bonds but none of them can be said to be beyond-a-doubt connected. There is a very strong argument for 0rigin being in continuity with 1 and 3, a weaker one for 2 and 4, and beyond that who knows...this is a pretty loaded question because it's a major point of contention in the fanbase. Like a lot of things in Silent Hill, nothing's ever spelled out clearly.

In Silent Hill 1, what plot guides are there to get the best ending?

Question

In the very first Silent Hill, a part of the game takes place inside a hospital. In the hospital director's office, a strange red liquid is spilled on the floor and you must collect it in an empty bottle in order to get the game's best ending (by using the liquid to save officer Cybil instead of having to fight her, which also saves you a very nasty boss fight. This is not the sole requirement for getting this ending, however).

As far as I can recall from my first play-through, I did not see any hints that I should collect this red liquid (it didn't even occur to me that this was an option). Are there any in-game, plot-consistent hints that I missed?

I do recall there is a side-quest which hints to the red substance's purpose, but it only takes place after visiting the hospital. Am I only supposed to be aware of the red liquid's purpose on a second play-through?

Answer

Essentially, you just have to get lucky and pick up the liquid. I did the exact same thing, inspecting the liquid and simply moving on - and there's no reason to believe that anyone else would do differently if uninformed.

The same thing happens in Final Fantasy XII, when you have to know not to open certain treasure chests early in the game, with no clues whatsoever, in order to get the most powerful final weapon. This is just another one of those missible things that you have to catch, but with no clues as to how.
