What consequences did the destruction of the Worldstone bring?

Question

At the end of Diablo 2

Tyrael destroys the Worldstone to prevent its corruption.

Has there been any official word about the consequences of that action? Or the lives of the people of Sanctuary has not been affected by it?

Answer

to quote the diablo wiki, it seems like nobody knows for sure but we might see that in diabo 3:

The full effects of destroying the Worldstone are yet to be revealed. Many speculate that Tyrael has somehow been corrupted by Baal or the corrupted Worldstone. All should be revealed in Diablo III. Even the characters in Diablo II aren't sure of what will happen now that it is destroyed, or even if it had to be destroyed in the first place. The Prophecy stated that the Worldstone would be corrupted, but apparently never actually said anything about it having to be destroyed.

maybe some beta-testers of diablo 3 (more than the open beta with level-13-limit) could give more information - but i'm almost sure this would be against the terms of use of the beta, so thats unlikely to happen.
