Question
My Windows 7 machine has a Windows Score of 5.9:
Now, I know that my hard drive is not that slow (it is a RAID 0), but will games of the future fail to run if the score is low?
What does this mean for gaming?
Answer
I don't think the Windows Experience Index is taken very seriously, though Microsoft is certainly pushing it, and it is meant as a suggestion when put on the box of a game, or as a scale for comparison when displayed on a computer for sale.
In any case, nobody can say for sure but I would say it's very likely that no game will ever enforce a certain Windows Experience Index, for this very reason. My computer's low score is due to some cheap RAM, but I still play games at high quality and I expect future games will continue to run decently well, or at least I will attempt it. I don't think a company would be stupid enough to release a game which enforces a certain minimum index, lest it would receive tons of rage from people like you and I.
But, who knows what the future holds. Some company might just be that unwise.
