Looking for a mid to late 80s arcade game

This was an arcade game ~1986-91, and I'm thinking more on the earlier side of that based on my age I would actually go to that arcade. This was a side scrolling game where you controlled a warrior of some sort with a sword and a shield, maaaybe a helmet. The character was large on the screen, as this was not a platformer. You would fight 1v1 against a similar opponent. During combat, you would adjust the position of your shield up and down to block an incoming attack, and would attack with your sword likewise. The more hits the shield would take, it would degrade and break apart, leaving you with something that barely covered your fist. This may have had a 2 player VS mode, though I do not recall. I think the color of the character's armor was blue.
