Does it matter how many days have passed?

Question

Every time I go to open my inventory to check out some new gear I found, which is approximately every 37 seconds, I see the game clock staring back at me. Sometimes it's nice to know if it's day or night since there are certain magic items that give you bonuses during the day or at night, but does the number of days elasped since the game started matter?

enter image description here

  • Are there any quests that have hidden a time limit?

  • Are there any events that occur after a certain day?

  • Does something bad happen if I ignore the main quest for too long?

Asked by Sterno

Answer

After a little researching on the web I can't find much evidence that the days passed has a sizable effect.

From tvtropes.org:

There don't appear to be any time limits on quests whatsoever. Even when the quest in question involves providing first aid to a woman who got knifed and is lying on the street groaning and writhing in pain.

The only thing I have found it to be useful for is farming reagents

From trueachievements.com

Reagents are also on a 2 day respawn (Expect for Seaflax which is 3 days), If your farming a certain reagent be sure to sleep in a bed to make it spawn again.

Do workers only put in a percentage or work at the end of a turn if they used a movement point before starting?

Question

I have found that when a worker moves into a hex and starts work having used a part of their movement points, they will start work on the end of that turn, not the next turn.

This is similar to when a military unit heals on a hex and that they do not start healing unless they end the turn with all their movement points.

If a worker starts work when they have used a movement point (or percentage of) do they only put that percentage of work into their turns remaining?

For example, if a worker starts work when they have 1 out of 2 movement points remaining, do they only put in 50% which is half a turn of work?

Asked by Valamas

Answer

Hunting camps take 6 turns to build.

Started construction on a hunting camp with an unmoved worker. The progress display said 5 turns remaining.

Started construction on a hunting camp with a worker that moved into the square via road. The progress display said 5 turns remaining.

Roads take 3 turns to build.

  • First turn I moved a worker from plains to plains (1/2 move remaining) and clicked the build road button (2 turns remaining).
  • Second turn I moved that worker off and moved another one on (1/2 move remaining) and clicked the build road button (1 turn remaining).
  • Third turn I moved the second worker off and moved a third one on (1/2 move remaining) - when I clicked the build road button, the road completed.

This technique could be used to create a long road with workers that move every turn as long as they don't spend all of their movement to enter the tile.

Sum up: workers do not work partial turns. A worker spends its remaining movement for the turn to do one turn of work.

Are there any background walls which are immune to explosives?

Question

Explosives are powerful. Maybe a little too powerful for my liking.

I've set up a trap where mobs fall into a pit of explosive proof material (in this case, mythril ore), where I'm free to throw dynamite or bombs to my heart's content.

However, I want there to be a background wall so that mobs won't spawn inside the pit while it's closed off (using active/inactive stone blocks).

So far all my attempts have failed with the background being blown clean off the sky.

Is there a wall that will remain in place even if dynamite goes off right in front of it?

Asked by Mr Smooth

Answer

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. The only background walls completely impervious to anything are world-generated, unsafe walls (unless the blast reaches a hole in the wall, or an edge). However, these, by design, cannot be placed by the player at all, and in any case do not prevent monster spawns.

It looks like you're out of luck here. Bombs and Dynamite can blow up any player-placed wall.

What professions will help a Demonology Warlock?

Question

I am trying to phrase this question in a way that makes it not subjective. I am not looking for "the most fun" or "best" profession for a Warlock to practice in WoW. What I am looking for is to get more information on what profession will benefit a warlock the most in terms of content progression. Be it getting additional stats on armor or being able to create potions - what will help the Warlock the most if they invest their time in? I just recently hit level 85 and after reading about all of the professions, I am still not quite sure as to which will help me the most.

Asked by imaginative

Answer

The best profession, bar none, for content progression is Blacksmithing. The two additional sockets can be fitted with epic gems that provide a +100 stat point bonus to your Intellect, more than any other profession, and Intellect is the most important stat for a Warlock. That's because it was originally balanced around non-epic gems that only provided +40 Intellect each.

All of the other professions are balanced around providing ~80 stat points. If you compare the ring enchants (Enchanting), the upgraded Jewelcrafting gems, etc etc etc, you will find that the majority offer a selection of stats but all will total around ~80. For your second profession, to maximise your progression stats, you should pick a profession that will give you +80 Intellect. These are:

The worst to pick are the gathering professions because while Skinning (+80 Critical Strike Rating) and Herbalism (+480 Haste Rating for 20 seconds every two minutes, averaging out to +80 Haste Rating) give you DPS stats, they are not as beneficial as pure Intellect from Blacksmithing or Jewelcrafting, for example, and Mining (+120 Stamina) does not provide a DPS stat at all.

BF3 Exiting a vehicle - Stage Left or Stage Right?

Question

Is there a way to dictate which side of a vehicle you end up on upon exiting said vehicle?

Asked by Albort

Answer

You leave a vehicle into the direction you're looking at. So, if you're in a Jeep and look to the right, you will leave the Jeep to the right.

This feature is - at least for me - not that good. If I am the tank-gunner and - of course - the repair guy, I need to watch to the back of our tank to exit safely. Most of the time you will exit facing the enemy because you just hit the Exit button, but you'll get used to it (or die!) :)

How do I loot a chest on top of a teleportation trap?

Question

Given that I don't have magic resistance yet, and walking on to the chest always teleports me away, is there a way to do it?

Asked by Bruce Connor

Answer

A general point is to move the item off of the trap, typically by kicking. A chest, however, has a special kick interaction, so even with kicking boots, you can't move the chest off of the trap. If you have a wand of teleportation or know the spell teleport away, you can teleport the chest off of the trap, and then hunt down where it lands. As long as it doesn't end up on another teleportation trap, you're home free!

Absent of having a means of teleportation, however, the only other way to get it is indeed to have Magic Resistance such as from a cloak of magic resistance. Teleport control will not let you land on a teleport trap, whether you teleport from elsewhere or from the trap itself.

Can I purchase a digital copy of StarCraft 2 as a gift?

Question

Certainly I could buy a boxed copy. But is it possible to send a digital gift of StarCraft 2?

Asked by Mag Roader

Answer

Looks like it isn't possible, you have to have a battle.net account prior to buying a digital copy, but you cannot buy a digital copy for another battle.net account and you cannot buy a digital copy if you already own StarCraft 2.

However, if you live far away from the lucky recipient, you can buy a boxed version of the game, find the serial code, then send it (in a secure fashion) to the recipient - they could then create (or re-use) their battle.net account and add the code there, which unlocks the game. They can later download the game client from Blizzard, like any other digital purchase.

How are race/class combinations unlocked in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer?

Question

This ME3 wiki page has a list of possible race/class combinations, but by default only the human options are available (at least in the demo). How are the other races unlocked?

Asked by Bryson Duda

Answer

This might require updating after the game releases, but in the demo, you can get additional race/class unlocks by purchasing "item packs" with credits you earn by playing the game.

In the demo version, there's a "Recruit Pack" that costs 5,000 cr, and a "Veteran Pack" that costs 20,000 cr. Think of these like a pack of cards you might buy for a collectible card game - you'll get a random assortment of several different things, including the possibility of unlocking a new character.

Is there any reason to repair items before they reach 0?

Question

In KoA it seems like the most cost-effective method for repairing items is to wait until their condition reaches 0 and then use repair kits. Are there any drawbacks to this? For example, is the item less effective as it gets more damaged? Is it possible for items to be damaged beyond repair?

Asked by jwaddell

Answer

In my experience, the cost-optimal solution (when your Blacksmithing is high enough to repair your items with one kit) is to wait until they hit 0 durability remaining.

There is a warning when your items are almost broken, but I never really saw a significant difference in their performance at this stage. I'd routinely finish the fight I was in the middle of if I got this warning. The only difference I noticed is when they are completely broken. Sometimes in the heat of battle I'd miss the damaged/broken warnings, and notice that my weapons were doing almost no damage.

Due to the fact that equipment effectiveness is almost completely negated when items are at 0 durability, I never spent enough time in that state to gauge if it is possible to lose them completely. However, I seriously doubt this is possible. I believe the only drawback to being at 0 durability is the item being nearly useless.

I qualified my answer as being "cost-optimal" because this has practical implications. Once the durability of one piece of armor is critically low, it's likely that multiple pieces of equipment require repair. In practice, I tended to repair everything below a certain threshold once one of my items broke - this way, I didn't have to go into and out of the menu as frequently. Also, this kept me from situations where much of my armor failed at once, leaving me defenseless. Money tended to be less valuable than my time - either time spent paging through the menus or time spent loading if I lost due to equipment failure.

How can I complete “Omega: Packages For Ish”?

Question

In the assignment Omega: Packages for Ish, I picked up the packages he wanted from Illium and from the Citadel, and then I delivered them to him. I then chose the paragon option of talking him into not using them, at which point he thanked me for probably saving his life and left.

enter image description here

However, the assignment is still open in my journal. What do I need to do to close this out? I tried talking to Aria and to Anto after talking to Ish, but neither had anything to say about it.

Asked by Sterno

Answer

This is a known bug in Mass Effect 2, and as of the most recent patch/steam version, is still in effect. There is no current solution.

These are the possible paths to take when starting this mission for the first time. Bringing the package to Anto will allow the quest to properly close, but locks you into the rewards and responses from that decision - which you may not want.

From the wiki, these are your options:

If you bring the package to Ish, you can either:

  • Give the packages to Ish for +50 experience, +4500 credits, and +5 Renegade points.
  • Or convince Ish he's in over his head for +40 experience, +3375 credits, and no morality points; yet the mission remains open in the
    journal.

If you bring the package to Anto (one of Aria's bodyguards in the Afterlife Club) - which you can either do first or after convincing Ish to leave as described above - you can either:

  • Give the package to Anto for +5 Paragon/Renegade points.

  • Or extort money from Anto for +40 experience, +2250 credits, and +5 Paragon/Renegade points.

In either case, no one will hear from Ish ever again if the mission is turned in to Anto. Should you choose the middle option of "Take care of Ish", Shepard will simply suggest that Anto "clean up the mess" by killing Ish, which Anto does. And if Jacob is in the squad, he finds Shepard's choice to be harsh, though he still sees that Ish deserves such an end. If Miranda is in the squad, she'll say that "that's exactly how [she] expected Ish to go out".

How do I gain Owner Points?

Question

I have learned that various in-game items unlock using Owner Points. While I have figured out where I can see how many Owner Points I have, I haven't quite figured out how I can ensure I gain a lot of them. I figure it has something to do with taking good care of my dog, like making sure he is fed and taking him for walks, but beyond that, I am not sure.

How can I make sure I get as many Owner Points as possible? What do I need to make sure I am doing?

Asked by Ashley Nunn

Answer

Trainer points are rewarded for taking them to contests, and generally taking care of them. Some general activities that earn points are:

  1. Walks (50)
  2. Finding a present on said walk (15)
  3. Visiting friend (20)
  4. Place in competition (100 - 75 - 50 - or 25 for just entering)
  5. Petting, Feeding, Brushing and Bathing also reward points.
  6. When your dog meets another dog and they like eachother (50)

In order to maximize points ensure to always enter the competitions and train your dog well. Taking care of them daily (washing, petting , feeding) will obviously make your dog happier and will reward you more points for things you may miss in a day. This link has a pretty good list of ways to get trainer points and money. There is a trick on here, I haven't tried it (since I've only seen my cousin playing) that if you leave the brush on your dog overnight it will net you a ton of points -

"Brush one of your dogs with a rubber/wire (whichever is nescessary) brush and leave the brush on the dog when you go to sleep. Leave the charger in your DS. When you wake up in the morning, go to your game. You will have around 800 training points or maybe more than that."

~2000year 3D tank game where you can stack tank turrets on top of each other

Question

Do you know that feeling, when you really need to find something you have seen a long time ago? And no, I'm talking not about socks.

I remember myself playing this a bit childish, but in some ways awesome game, where you control a tank, and can pick up and stack turrets (and maybe something else) from enemy tanks you kill. Maybe they also had different platforms (and if it's one with wheels then technically it's not a tank, but hey). It was around 2000 (or maybe even earlier) and the game had 3D graphics.

In summary:

  • PC game
  • 3D graphics (although with very low polygon count).
  • Top-down view, almost everything on one screen (so, not huge maps).
  • A bit childish: colorful, the sounds are funny as well, especially engines.
  • Stacked turrets on top of each other on top of tank-like things, you control one of them, and can pick up more turrets from killed enemies.
  • World with water and other obstacles.
  • If you have a lot of stacked turrets on your tank, it slows down.

Please help me find this game, so I know that i'm not crazy (at least, not in a can't-remember-a-name-of-an-awesome-game-of-my-youth way).

When do Pokemon outbreaks change routes?

Question

I was trying to find out when the swarming on a Pokemon outbreak change to another route, but I could only find this information about "soft-reset". But nothing about the time to reset while playing.

Bulbapedia:

"The gates in Unova have a monitor inside that will alert the player where an outbreak is taking place. During winter, the monitor may occasionally not report on outbreaks, which is due to parts of Route 8, where Croagunk can be found, becoming frozen during Winter and not allowing the Pokémon to be caught there. All have the level range of 15-55. Unlike previous games, the Pokémon outbreaks can be manipulated by soft resetting the game: turning the console off without saving the game beforehand. When the game is restarted, there will be a different Pokémon swarming."

In Black-White (gen V) works like Gen II ?

"Pokémon outbreaks originated in Generation II. In that generation, if the player registered a certain Trainer in the Pokégear, that Trainer would occassionally call to tell the player that he saw or heard about a large number of Pokémon in a certain area; for the next 30 minutes after such a call (in real time, not play time), the swarming Pokémon would appear in the given area with much greater frequency than the usual 1%."

Asked by Michel Ayres

Answer

From the Discussion page of Pokemon Outbreaks (in regards to how to reset the swarm):

Actually, any sort of reset will work, provided you have not already saved on that date. I've taken advantage of this multiple times. If you save after the date changes, though, even if you haven't yet inspected a board, the swarming Pokémon will be set in stone. --AndyPKMN (talk) 14:16, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Pokemon outbreaks are set by the date, lasting that whole date only after the swarm for that day has been set and saved to the cart.

Why is my dog so plump? Does he need to go on a diet?

Question

I walk my dog twice a day and only feed him when he is hungry. I try not to give him too many treats, but when I was trying to train him to play dead, he ate quite a few before I figured out how to use them.

Now he is plump and I don't want him to be that way - I would prefer to get him back to his ideal physique that he had before.

What do I need to do? I tried long walks and more exercise but it doesn't seem to help - do I just have to keep working at it? Or is there something else I am missing?

Answer

If you noticed your dog is plump and want him to slim down, you simply need to walk him and feed him Diet Food.

Diet Dog Food can be bought from BARC for $5 after being unlocked with 850 Owner Points or by playing 6 days.

How can I move my PSP game saves onto my PS Vita?

Question

I have an old PSP and a PS3 and PC. I have a bunch of PSP game saves for PSN games (patapon ect) that I would like to move over to my Vita because they work on the Vita.

How can I move my PSP's save files onto my Vita?

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

Copying your PSP save data

Plug your PSP into your PC with a Mini USB cable (the kind that fits into the top of your PSP) and select the USB Connection option in the PSP System menu.

The PSP should show up as a connected drive in your My Computer menu. It's probably called "Removable Disk" if you're on Windows. Open that drive and navigate to the PSP folder.

Copy the SAVEDATA folder onto your PC somewhere like you Desktop. That folder has all your PSP saves and we'll copy them to the PS Vita soon. If you're concerned about how much space the data will take up on your PS Vita, check how large this SAVEDATA folder is, you're about to copy that much data onto your Vita. If it's too large, we can only copy the specific games you want the data for later.

Prepare your PS Vita to copy the files

Download any one PSP game onto your Vita and play it enough to generate a save file. Any game will do, it doesn't have to be a game you want to copy the save data for.

Install the PS Vita Content Manager Assistant for Windows or Mac OSX.

Connect your Vita to your PC with the USB cable and open up the content manager. Pick Copy Content: PS Vita System -> PC -> Applications -> Save Data (PSP/Other).

You should see the game you played earlier in a list; tap the PSP game to select it and hit copy. Click Okay to copy it onto your PC.

Find the folder on your PC the Vita copied to; it should be in your Documents folder in a folder named PS Vita, in that folder there's a folder called PSAVEDATA. In that should be a single folder named with random letters and numbers. Open that folder; this is where we're going to copy the PSP Save Data.

Copy the files onto your Vita

Open up the SAVEDATA folder from earlier, those are your PSP saves. Also open the PS Vita folder we mentioned before that has your PS Vita's copy of the save files (you want to be inside the folder with the name that's random letters/numbers). Copy and past ALL folders from the SAVEDATA folder into the folder named with random letters. Say Yes to any dialogs that ask if you want to merge/copy files; this means you're overwriting the Vita's copy of the save file with the PSP one.

Now just open Content Manager on the Vita again and pick Copy Content: PC -> PS Vita System. Pick Applications -> Saved Data again. You should now see all of your PSP save data. I recommend hitting Select All and just copying all of this data over. You can also pick and choose just the games' data you want to copy over if you want to save yourself some space.

Pick Copy and hit Okay again, it will ask you if you want to overwrite any data you have on the PS Vita for the PSP games; you want to do this, so click Apply to All and tap Overwrite.

Your PS Vita now has all save data from your PSP and you can keep it there forever, and it's also stored with your PS Vita backup. Any time you download a PSP game onto that Vita, it will start with the save data you copied from your old PSP, no need to repeat this for each game!

Answer

Yes, that is the only folder you need to copy to back up your saved games (I've done this before). Be sure to patch Halo after re-install before copying back the save data, as I believe the patch causes the game to overwrite that folder.

I just started playing Realm of the Mad God on Steam. The intro video shows the map rotating as players move around it, but I can't find any key (or key maps) which do this. Is it possible to do in the PC version?

Asked by Dan Rasmussen

Answer

Check the options. There's an option to set the map's default angle to 45 degrees (default) or 0 degrees as well as some options to change hotkeys and there's where you'll find the defaults for rotating the map (which I don't know off the top of my head but I believe they're Q and E). You have to unlock the map for rotation in the options though before you can use Q and E, this is of course assuming that those are the right keys to do it with.

Can I increase the number of allowed saves?

Question

It seems that, unlike the first game, Mass Effect 2 (inexplicably) has a save limit. I currently have 50 full save slots and the game will not let me make any others. In ME1, there was a PC tweak where you could edit a .ini file in order to increase the number of allowed saves. However, I can't find anything in the ME2 PC tweaks that will let you do the same, maybe because the configuration files are in a different format for this game.

Is there any way for me to increase the number of allowed saves without endangering my save file(s) for import to ME3?

Answer

Well, hopefully you'll find a better answer, but one workaround is to simply back up some of your older saves to another directory.

On Windows 7, my saves are stored in

C:\Users\MyUserName\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\Save\John_12_Soldier_260110

That last bit differs on a character-by-character basis. You could grab the .pcsav files from there and move them to a backup directory. Now you've got some archived saves and free slots. If you want to restore them later, you just drop them back in (though you probably need to make sure you aren't bringing the total over 50 if you do).

I finished the New Game + mode on bastion and went to the Score Attack mode, but forgot to get the Turret Opera achievement. It can be done with the Gel Canister secret skill, but it seems the Gel is only awarded on the NG+ mode. Since I wanna make the Score Attack mode my final playthough, does the Gel Canister make an appearance on this mode or should I restart a NG+ to get it?

Asked by ememorais

Answer

Turns out the Gel Canister is also available on the Score Attack mode. It's unlocked after the Arsenal is built on the Bastion. After getting twenty kills with one turret from the Gel Canister secret skill, the achievement was awarded.

Can the clock be goofed in Tiny Tower?

Question

Many "Persistent World" games like Farmville prevent cheating by requiring an internet connection so you're always playing by their clock; Tiny Tower however does not require an internet connection.

Does this mean it's possible to play with my device's clock and manipulate the game time? Does the game try to "punish" you at all for doing this? Animal Crossing for instance made the game very hard to play (billions of weeds grew) if you messed with the device clock.

Asked by Ben Brocka

Answer

Does this mean it's possible to play with my device's clock and manipulate the game time?

Yes. There is no punish for this as I have done this before to test the theory.

Your items will sell out, you will make gobs of money, and build times would be shortened (obviously).

Does the game try to "punish" you at all for doing this?

Not really, no.

BE CAREFUL THOUGH: If you build / start to stock items and then revert back to the correct time, you will show the total stocking time = stocking time + time skipped ahead.

To avoid this, do not stock items and then move back to the correct time. Let all stocking finish, or skip the time forward till the stocking is completed.

One other issue I seem to have was that no more customers will come by your stores....

This is fixed by closing out the application completely and reopening it.

Improving late game tactics

Question

I've been playing LoL for about a month now, and I consider myself pretty decent. I'm level 20 with more wins than losses, and have been using mobafire's guides everytime I play.

However late game I've been running into a lot of problems with being tactical. Sometimes my teammates will get pissed at me for not helping in team fights(when I'm trying to push a lane full of minions), jumping in too early, not going in for a kill even tho it would be suicide, or just getting caught up in a lot of bad situations where I die because I get stunned or slowed.

I guess I want to know how I can better my late game tactics.. does it come with just playing more champs and getting used to what all of them do so I know what to avoid? Is there a tactical guide I can follow or read? Maybe some of you could join me in game and give me some pointers.

Asked by Brent Hacker

Answer

Playing other champions really gives you a feel for how to handle situations. It is important to know what your champion is capapable of and what they are capable of. I can offer some tips though.

  1. Watch your map: This one is the most important, always watch your map. When more than one person is missing on the enemy team you should be moving to a safe position. Make sure you know where your enemies are or where they were heading last seen. Keep the map scouted and when 3+ people are missing you should be trying to bunch up aswell. If theres 3 or more people missing and you're pushing a lane deep then most likely they are coming to kill you.

  2. Know your role: If you're the tank, be the tank. Protect your squishies, stay close to them and protect them. They are usually your carries and thats how you will win the teamfights. Rally your team, don't be afraid to boss them around. "All push mid" "Group up". Late game power is all yours as the tank, you engage, you chose where and when to engage and where to push. Without you your team is pretty useless. If you're the carry, stick to the tank farm within moderation and keep an eye on the map. You're who they're disappearing to come kill. Stick to the brush when teamfights engage so they can't come in and just ice you and run away. Don't reveal yourself till some spells have been cast and they have already begun focusing another less squishy player. If you're support, keep the tank alive and watch your squishys.

  3. Don't wander: If its late game and you're all level 18 its time to be a team, move together, stay close. Don't over extend and wandering also involves watching the maps. If the enemy team is pushed into their base and fending off super mionons go steal their camps, but just always farm in moderation and never over extend.

  4. Know your enemy: Once again coming back to knowing the champions. If you're the tank and the majority of the enemy team damage dealers are ability power then stack magic resist, if you're a carry and a majority of the enemies are tanky high health grab a madreds and tear them down. Don't trust mobafire 100%. No build is gaurenteed every time. I say this all the time, LoL is dynamic and should be played as such. Build your build around the enemy team and what your team needs from you.

Also a side-note worth mentioning, once you can buy tier 3 runes build some pages for your favorite champions. Try to make ambiguous pages that can apply to for example all AD carries or all tanks. Some good purchase starting points are armor seals, armor pen marks, and magic pen marks. You can use them for basically any character.

How do I unlock areas in Find Mii 2?

Question

I was playing through the secret quest in Find Mii 2 and tried to go to the Shrine of Judgement, but I got a message saying it was locked, and to try again later.

How later? You can't exactly go back in this game, only forward to the next area, so if I choose a different path, I will have to wait until my next playthrough.

What do I need to do to unlock these paths?

Asked by Ashley Nunn

Answer

These locatons unlock in future playthroughs. Unfourtunatley when you finished the game (which I am assuming you did) and you selected the secret mission you made yourself ineligible on this playthrough to unlock the doors. See this IGN thread. It is generally suggested to playthorugh the game multiple times unitl you have visited all of the paths and THEN tackle the secret quests.

So basically if you want these paths to unlock you can't take on the secret quests you need to just select a new playthrough.

How fast will my items sell out?

Question

Is there a formula to how fast something will sell out??

It would be nice to somehow stack most items to sell out at the same time or create some pattern for max income.

Asked by Foxtrot

Answer

The Tiny Tower Wiki explains that each store has it's own demand (assuming demand is at 100% for that floor category), so sales at any given store are at a constant rate of 10 customers per minute.

Bitizen buy items randomly, so they'll buy a mix of all items and all items' stock will decrease at the same rate. Naturally items with shorter stock will sell out faster.

Due to how sales per minute is handled, you can also "watch" your tower's stock by watching Sales Per Minute; SPM actually calculates money earned per minute, so if your SPM is high, that means bitizens are buying more high priced items. This actually means that your low cost items are out of stock, and thus your bitizens can only purchase higher cost items.

From the Wiki, about Sales Per Minute:

Assuming 100% demand (10 bitizens / minute), a single business contributes to this number ...
30 if only 3-coin items are stocked
25 if 2 and 3-coin items are stocked
18 if 1, 2 and 3-coin items are stocked

The wiki also has an advanced Selective Stocking method you could use:

The natural rate of income of each floor is determined by which products are in stock. It follows that a fully employed and stocked floor will reap more coins than one with a single employee and product. However, If the player is able and willing to pay a bit more attention to his or her game, it's very possible to gain even higher rates of income.

Their method shows stocking only 2 and 3 coin items is most profitable because it yields a very high Coins Per Customer rate but doesn't close down the store as often as stocking only 3 coin items would. Note that this only works out if you're actively playing at all times, any time where the game will be left alone you should just fully stock the stores.

At what point does an egg become a wildcard pinata?

Question

In the original Viva Pinata for 360 at what point is it decided whether or not the egg will be a wildcard?

When the romance level is completed?

When the egg is delivered (ie created)?

When the egg is hatched?

I'm looking for some solid evidence that suggests when the randomness happens and when it's decided.

Asked by Bob

Answer

Based on the information from the wiki it seems that wild cards are purely random and that any egg can be a wild card. This could imply that the decision is made upon hatching; on the other hand an argument could be made that it is decided upon creation based on the fact that if one parent is a wild card then the egg has a higher probability of being a wild card.

One way to test this would be to save the game prior to an egg hatching. Then reset the game after the egg hatches and see if you have a consistent result. If you do then the egg is probably determined upon creation, if not, it's determined upon hatching.

What's a good strategy for completing the “Fly 1750m without collecting coins” mission in Jetpack Joyride

Question

This is the last mission that I have to complete, but I can't seem to come up with a good strategy to complete the mission. I always seem to inadvertently collect a coin or two along the way to 1750m. Is there some sort of winning strategy to complete this mission?

Asked by RESPAWN

Answer

First of all, avoid using any vehicles, they get hard to steer pretty fast and you might pick coins by accident. So unless you are sure you can control your vehicle, either avoid picking them up or destroy them intentionally as soon as possible. In any event, turn off the magnetic vehicle add-ons if you have any.

Use powerups. Buy the Head Start powerup and when using it stay close to the ground. In my experience, 80% of the times you'll reach 750m without any coins. Grab a few Quick Revive powerups as well, use them only if you've reached a significant distance without picking any coins (say, 1250m). In the event you have a choice between death and picking up coins, die and revive yourself. I'd avoid using the Final Blast unless it's a last resort, you may end up collecting coins while you tumble away, in any case, don't use it if you have a Quick Revive unless you've used that first.

Picking up tokens is up to you, they don't count against you, and you might get a revive or a Final Blast in the slot machine, but if you use them and get coins or cash them in you'd lose your mission. I'd say - prefer to use powerups before spinning the wheel for the first time.

The mission isn't that hard, I've completed it successfully several times (I finished all missions 8 times by now), it's just takes a mixture of skill, luck and clever use of powerups.

Should shops be open at all times?

Question

I recently started playing Tiny Tower. I only have a few shops at the moment, but I do my best to keep them open at all times by keeping them stocked. The only problem I seem to notice is that my bitizens often make comments such as, "It feels like (x) shop never closes!"

I know that if the shops close, I lose money. However:

Will my bitizens be happier if I let shops close? Do they even get time off?

Asked by Tristan

Answer

The great things about bitizens is that they never seem to need to sleep. Thankfully you don't have to manage your bitizens personal concerns in this game, as the focus is the tower. Your bitizens will work 24/7 without any loss of productivity, so long as you can keep your shops stocked. So, yes, shops should be open at all times.

If you see them complaining in the Bitbook, I think that's just the developers way of adding some personality into the game. :) The only way to make a bitizen happy in the game is to employ them in their dream job. Failing that, until their dream job opens in your tower, best practice is to match them with the area that they are highest in according to their profile. They will at least remain content until such time as their dream job opens and you reassign them. So long as you can match them with a job of interest level 5 or greater, they will be content. Anything less than 5 and they will be unhappy in their job.

What benefits do I get from replaying missions?

Question

Spiral Knights recently added missions, an award system tied to the missions you complete, and an arbitrary "prestige" value that certain missions award you that may or may not (i.e. some does, some doesn't) bring you one step closer to leveling up.

What can I gain from replaying a mission I've already completed? Can I get the mission rewards and the prestige again? Just the prestige? Does it count toward leveling up?

Answer

You do not get the mission rewards and prestige from replayed missions, however you do get the money and items you found within the missions. Thus, replaying missions may not be a way to profit from selling the rewards, but it makes farming Materials, Tokens and Crowns much easier by simply being able to make a pure Snarbolax or Jelly King run for example.

How to play a private match on android?

Question

I want to play with my friend and nobody else. If I make a public game, anyone can join. If I make a private match, however, according to any information I can find online, I have to "alt-tab to Steam, right-click on your friend, and invite to game". Which is great, except I'm on an Android phone. How do I play with my friend under this setup?

To clarify: I can host a game easily. I can join a game easily. But if I host a game that's of type Private Match, I'm alone in the game and can't figure out how to invite anyone else. A search for my username reveals no matches available for my friend to join. We're both on Android systems.

Asked by Yamikuronue

Answer

Well, it would seem that this functionality does not work. I can play with people who are not on Android, or I can play a public game, kick everyone else out, and lock it once my friend is in, but I cannot play a private match and then invite a friend like every other system can do. Anyone know how to file a bug report?

Does a relay route that hits multiple systems have any in-game effect?

Question

When traveling via Mass relay, it shows the route you're going to take and which systems it passes through.

enter image description here

Does passing through extra systems on the way to your final destination have any in-game effect, or is this essentially just for flavor?

Asked by Sterno

Answer

From what I could tell, it never made a difference for travelling. The multi-stage trips seem to simply be to keep the series' canon. From the mass effect wiki:

There are two kinds of mass relay, primary and secondary. Primary relays can propel a ship thousands of light years but only link to one other relay, its "partner"

As such, it seems that each relay can only be linked to exactly one other relay (though some locations may have multiple relays). Travel between two non-linked locations rely on heading through multiple mass relays.

What is the most effective way to build a destruction caster / 1 hander character?

Question

My character has destruction spells and 1 handed sword equipped at all times. What is the most effective way to build this type of character?

Asked by Apoc

Answer

This really depends on your objective, why did you choose destruction/one handed as the path to take?

The way I see it, there are 3 possibilities:

I. You want to soften them up before you engage them up close.

You'll mostly be focused on your weapon and use destruction simply to spend that mana or else it'd be wasted. With this strategy, focus more on your one handed perks, smithing (for better weapons, and armor), and health so you can get up close and personal. Find the biggest and best weapon you can get your hands on, alternate between lightning and/or frost depending on if you are fighting a mage or warrior to drain their mana/stamina. Putting down some runes/traps ahead of a battle is not a bad idea either.

II. You want to pull out your sword once the enemy gets too close for comfort.

With the right perks (i.e. destruction dual cast and impact), you can literally keep an enemy away from you as long as you can cast the spell. Your sword really is a last resort that you'd only use when you have no mana left or they're too close for your big aoe spells. In which case you'll want some nice enchantments on your sword for absorb health and stamina and gear to lower destruction spell cost. Stun on your sword helps too so you can run away.

III. You want to be the jack of all trades and deal damage no matter what the circumstance.

This is the most perk intensive build as you'll need both destruction and one handed as well as the supporting trees (enchanting and smithing) to make it feasible. You won't really be great at either as you'll lose the dual cast ability and the ability to bash with your sword and/or use a shield. There really is no reason to go this path since there are much better supporting spells for a one hander than destruction, but there's no reason you shouldn't since its rather hard to completely mess up a build in Skyrim.

The game's not that hard where you have to min/max everything, just go with it and see where it takes you.

How can you free yourself from a grab in SSBB?

Question

While playing SSBB, I noticed that sometimes CPU-opponents can free themselves from my grab (B+1 in the horizontal Wii-Remote mote, and I believe Z+A otherwise), while I or other humans who I play with cannot. Also, the time you can hold/beat opponents while grabbing them seems to differ all the time. I guess, either this is because we manage to free ourselves while bashing random buttons, or it is randomised.

Is there some trick to break loose from an opponent's grab or how does it work?

Bonus: (How) Can I prevent to be grabbed at all?

Asked by bitmask

Answer

The amount of time you spend in a grab is calculated with this formula: damage * 1.7 + 90

The result of this formula is in frames - there are 60 frames in one second. So, if you're at 0% damage, you will automatically break free of a grab after 90 frames (1.5 seconds). If you're at 100% damage, that time extends to 260 frames (4.333... seconds).

Of course you can break out faster than that. For each button you press, or cardinal direction you input with the control stick (up/down/left/right), you cut 8 frames (0.1333... seconds) off your grab time. So pressing any button 5 times during a grab will let you escape 40 frames (0.666... seconds) sooner. Obviously, this means you should be mashing buttons and twirling your stick to get out as fast as possible. There are a few more technical details about how exactly the stick inputs work that I don't think you need to know. Note that the C-Stick counts as both a stick direction and an attack button press, so in theory that should get you out even faster. The minimum time you can spend in a grab is 20 frames (0.333... seconds), this can vary by a frame or two based on character; I'm guessing one frame doesn't mean much in situations you're interested in.

Note: This only applies to regular grabs. If DK picks you up and carries you around, the formula's different but the concept is the same: mash to get out faster. This also applies to some special moves like Inhale and Egg Lay, as well as status effects like sleep and stun. Some special move-based grabs like Falcon Dive or Monkey Flip are inescapable unless the user gets interrupted.

Bonus: You can dodge grabs by rolling, sidestepping, or just being invincible. You cannot shield grabs (which is part of the point), and launch resistance like you see in Ike's Aether doesn't help either. You also cannot get grabbed if you're lying on the ground.

There are many differences between Civilization 4 and 5. Besides the obvious graphic changes Some of the most significant game play changes are:

  • 1 Military Unit per location, instead of infinite stacks
  • Global happiness instead of local happiness
  • Embarking troops instead of troop transport units.

An extensive list can be found on the civfanatics forum.

Upcoming expansions might add or remove some of the differences. For example an announced expansion will add religion to Civilization 5, something which was already present in Civilization 4 but absent in the Civilization 5 base game.

What exactly is a “clean hit”?

Question

Every once in a while I will get a "clean hit" message. I was wondering what specifically causes this, as I have managed to do it without even hitting my opponent. Does it cause any extra damage?

Asked by Maxx

Answer

Best I can tell, it's just a "Critical Hit" as most games would call it, a small random chance of extra damage. Apparently certain moves for each character have a chance of getting a clean hit, not all attacks.

From Penny Arcade's Forum (emphasis mine):

A clean hit is a completely random damage boost that can proc on 3 or 4 different moves for each character. These were said to be "signature" moves, ones that they would focus on and probably use a lot. Siegfried's 3b is a clean hit move, for example. There are also some weird ones like Pyrrha's b throw. It's a 20% damage boost and there's currently no way to predict or control it. As Daishi explained it the purpose was to give new players both a guiding light and a better chance to compete. Generally the amount of clean hits will average out for every player over time, but in a smaller setting it has the potential to be very random.

PROC is short for "Programmed Random OCurance".

Corroborating is this answer on gaming.SE:

Clean hits are apparently a pseudo-random chance of getting improved damage. There are some attacks that can increase this chance, and just inputs are said to slightly increase the chance of a clean hit.

Mobs do not recover health. Refer to this link. However, if it is a fall damage trap, they should ideally be dying when they hit the bottom anyway so them recovering health should be irrellevant. If setup right they die on impact, and you have the ability to get in there and pickup their drops.

What's the best counter for Void Rays?

Question

Any time I let a Protoss player live to mid-game, I seem to be swarmed by Void Rays, and while I can sort of react, it's generally a 50/50 at that point.

Let's say I scout a player with a single Void Ray and plans to build more. What should I do to counter them? As each race preferably, but I generally play Protoss as well.

Asked by UltimateBrent

Answer

You're falling into the trap of "What would be good right now." This is a mistake when evaluating strategy. Any choice at this stage will necessarily be too late as it requires a time and resource investment that can't be made instantly. Instead I would suggest the following:

Void Rays take a long time to build and represent a substantial Vespene investment. This should allow you to produce as substantially larger army against a Protoss player focusing solely on Void Rays. A small investment in defensive structures will keep off a small force of Void Rays, however any larger force of Void Rays is better handled by direct assault on the Protoss base as you can produce a more cost effective force.

Bear in mind that a Protoss player investing in a Gas heavy strategy (like Void Rays) will have an excess of Minerals. The result is that their defensive force will largely be made of Zealots. Take this into account. Additionally, they are also very likely to expand as expansions are made out of minerals and provide excess gas very quickly.

Finally, I recommend better scouting. Seeing an early second Assimilator is a tell tail sign of a Void Ray rush.

A word to Protoss players. A Void Ray rush is not a sustainable strategy, neither is mass Void Rays before you have a Mothership out. However, Void Rays do complement a Tier 1/1.5 force very nicely, especially Armored units with High HP.

Does my female character need to “date” Alistar in order to make him king?

Question

I want my female human noble to become queen with Alistar. Do I need to be romancing him at Landsmeet time in order to make him king? (I already know I have to complete his personal quest).

Also if I ask him to kill the final boss can my character rule as a queen alone?

Asked by happy_emi

Answer

If he dies in the final battle, you aren't queen yet, so you can't reign. You aren't married to him. If you both survive, the text at the end says that you marry him six months later. Anora stays queen if he dies.

The Dragon Age wiki says that you can make a political marraige even if you aren't in a romantic relationship with Alistair.

I don't see where it says anything about his personal quest, except that certain outcomes require him to be hardened. Staying with him as a lover, not a wife, requires hardening, (pun unintended), and a few other options won't happen unless he is hardened.

How can I check how long I need to wait for the next bank deposit?

Question

I never know how long I have to wait until the next bank deposit. I know it's meant to be every 20 minutes and that there are events that annoyingly reset the timer without telling you, so I was wondering if there's a way to check how much longer I need to wait for the next deposit (assuming it won't be interrupted).

I'd like something more specific than 'dawn, midday, and dusk' because those are just as hard to time as 'every 20 minutes'. Is there a timer anywhere I can have a look at? I've not found anything so far but I've only just started playing and was hoping that after two games they'd include something as simple and useful as this.

Asked by Alex

Answer

Unfortunately, no. There's no timer visible in the game.

When I was in need of money, I tended to just leave the game running and park Ezio in a haystack or rose bush near a bank. If you leave and eat dinner (for example), when you get back, you should have enough cash to continue.

So I've now got Serah to lv99 Ravager and lv99 Medic, and Noel to lv99 Commando and lv99 Sentinel. Is there any point in using the other roles? Other than just to level up the stats?

For example I notice that although Serah is lv99 medic, she only has about 7 skills (not at my ps3) which seems odd to me.

As this is the case I'm always running Relentless Assault(RAV,RAV,COM) which is working fine so far, short of swapping in Flanitor occasionally for some heals I've not needed anything else.

If I carry on with this play style, is there actually any point at all in me levelling up any COM monsters? I've been levelling and infusing my RAV to allow him access to the different element spells, but otherwise I can't see much point in using the other roles.

Do I just keep playing and will I get better monsters as I play through? So far I've not really needed to play about with Monsters at all, and I feel reading questions on here that I'm missing out.

I've not used the Wide or Cross paradigm styles either. I stick with Regular the whole time.

Answer

For the most part, infusing monsters isn't really required. You can run through the game with stock monsters without any difficulty. It's there to provide an extra level of customization.

I went through the whole game with a level ~40 Red Chocobo. These are late bloomers, so for the most part, his attack was around 200/250. Not very high at all.

You will get different monsters as you play; not necessarily better. Each one has it's own unique skillset and abilities.

My own experience shows that for the most part, Aggression (COM, COM, RAV) is enough for most of the game. Only for the really strong monsters (Tonberries, Steppe bosses, etc.) do you really need to tweak your paradigms and the monsters.

How to stop winter? (Or, how to change a single biome in Minecraft / bukkit) [closed]

Question

Possible Duplicate:
Can I alter the biome of an area?

After, copying my vanilla world to bukkit, the biome seems to have changed from tundra to snow (while the terrain is the same as I noticed by creating a new world with same seed). This means that there is a straight border between the tundra part of the world that I previously explored, and the snow land that bukkit generates now. It also causes WorldGuard to let my lake freeze since it is in a snow biome now.

Long story short: Is there any way to change the local biome back into tundra?

Answer

Currently there is no way to do this as biome data is not stored in the chunks.

In Minecraft snapshot 12w07a (i think it was this one), Jeb added a new world format which saves the biome data with the chunks. Because this snapshot is so new and the Minecraft Coder's Pack isn't released for the snapshots, there probably won't be a mod to allow this until Minecraft 1.2 is released.

I will update this answer if a tool to do this is ever released.

Does length dilation affect the Y axis in the Nether?

Question

It's known that traveling one block in the Nether is equivalent to traveling 8 blocks in the real world, and I can confirm that along the X and Z axes by building four portals: two in the Nether and two in the real world.

But I can't seem to corroborate the length dilation from the Nether to the real world along the Y axis (height).

That is, if I build the following portals:

  • Nether:
    • Portal 1 at n height
    • Portal 2 at n - 8 height
  • Real world:
    • Portal 3 at m height
    • Portal 4 at m - 64 height

I expect Portal 1 and 3 to link up while portal 2 and 4 should link up. But in my testing, if I use portal 1 or 2, they lead to portal 3, and if I use portal 3 or 4, they lead to portal 2.

Is there any evidence—in the form of a video, a world save file, or notch—that one nether block equals 8 real world blocks along the Y axis? I'm trying to determine if my error is in calculation or if it's in execution.

Answer

According to this thread in the Minecraft Forums that seems to have peeked into the code, length dilation does not affect the y-axis.

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/345806-nether-portal-science/

Summary version

  • Calculate coordinate of destination based on entry coordinate. (X, Y, Z) <---> (X*8, Y, Z*8)

  • At destination, look for the closest active nether portal within a 128 block radius of the player (257x257x128 area centered on destination) (the Euclidean distance (the 3D distance)). Teleport player there if one exists.

  • If no portal exists in the 128 block radius, the game creates one by looking for the closest possible nearby position within a 16 radius column (33x33x128 area) that has enough space to spawn a portal. And teleports the player there.

  • And if there's no possible spawn position with solid ground, it just creates a portal at the destination anyway, converting any blocks in the way into a portal.
