Question
I searched for the CD of the first ever version of Call of Duty (version 1) in many malls and CD stores in Bangalore, India but didn't find. It seems to be out of stock and will never come back.
- So any genuine online stores from where I can purchase? Do they ship to India? I have never ever purchased any tangible item online.
- Do they sell only the key? In that case they don't need to ship the CD to my house because I already have ahem.. a pirated copy.
As you guys know for playing multiplayer on most servers (not cracked ones) you need to have a valid CD key. Only players with a valid key can join a game. Otherwise you can host a game but most others trying to join are also without valid keys so they are kicked out automatically and so there ultimately are just 1 or 2 players. Of course there are cracked servers but there too it sucks because of so few players. This game is really worth the expense.
Unfortunately, my system configurations are very low and I am sure that this version runs fine. Does Cod UO also have the same system requirements? If so, I could purchase that. However I am very happy with that version still because I never really played much multiplayer.
Answer
I believe there are many brand new Call of Duty Deluxe Edition (original + United Offensive expansion) offers on eBay, these usually do not cost more than 15 USD, plus ~5 USD for shipping. In this case you get full physical media, including CDs, instruction booklets with valid CD keys, DVD box and so on.
Alternatively you can purchase original Call of Duty on Steam. This will cost you around 20 EUR. United Offensive costs another 20 EUR, but you can buy both in a bundle for 30 EUR. In this case you get a legit download from Steam, with CD keys and possibility to redownload the game any time you want.
Generally, if there is a possibility to buy only an original CD key, the game's publisher will allow buyers to download full game for free from their website upon registration. This policy is supported i.e. by Blizzard games (Starcraft, World of Warcraft etc.). Of course, there is no shipping costs involved with digital distribution (Steam, Battle.net, etc.).
