“extended persistence” in Back to Karkand

Question

In Back to Karkand trailer one of announced features is extended persistence. What does that mean?

See:

EDIT: It's now official: http://bf3blog.com/2011/11/battlefield-3-assignments-a-new-way-of-unlocking-weapons/

Answer

From reading the Patrich Back interviews, (although he never explains it in back and white), what I get is that "extended persistence" is referring to the new an unlockable items and rewards that carry on through the back to Karkand pack, keeping us playing the game. This includes assignments that you can accept and complete for various rewards. He goes on to say that evrything you earn in Karkand will be contributed towards your soldier’s global score.

Here is one of the interviews: http://www.gameinformer.com/games/battlefield_3/b/xbox360/archive/2011/03/04/talking-battlefield-3-multiplayer.aspx?PostPageIndex=2

I hope that helps.
