What are these things? When I get close to it I take damage, but I can't hurt it.
What does it do and what is it?
Answer
They are Demonic Altars which are not monsters - hence you cannot get the tooltip by hovering over them.
You use them to craft some 'boss' summoning materials such as the Suspicious Looking Eye for the Eye ot Cthulhu (10 lenses).
If you try to hammer them, you take half your health in damage.
