Question
I've logged a few hours into Minecraft and so far I've managed to dig a rather wide hole straight to the black stone. I know that in the game, you can mine much faster than a pick ax if you have dynamite, which requires a fair amount of gun powder and sand. Sand is easy to obtain but what about the dynamite. Do I have to run around killing mob after mob at night or is there a quicker way to get the gun powder?
Answer
Aside from using server commands, there are only three ways to get gunpowder:
- Creepers
- Ghasts
- Dungeon Chests
Of those three, creepers would be the easiest way to reliably (and safely) gut gunpowder. Your best bet would be to make a mob farm (also called mob traps or mob spawners). The general idea is to set up a dark room for mobs to spawn, and have them funnel into an area where they are either easy to kill or die due to the environment or traps.
This question covers how to make mob traps, which I also linked above.
