Question
I'm trying to track down an old myst-like (first person, point-and-click, puzzle-based / exploration) type of game I played on a Mac years ago. I don't remember exactly when, but it was probably in the 1994-1998 range - I don't even have the faintest idea how long after it was released I played it, though.
The primary thing I remember was the characters you interacted with - I believe there was an FBI/Man-in-black type and a strange child, who eventually turned out to be the same alien(?). There was also a train involved, although I can't remember if that was the main setting, or if it was just one area.
I vaguely recall there also being an suitcase of tools for puzzle solving and/or items you found for an inventory. I'm not very certain of that, though.
Any ideas?
Edit: The setting, aside from the shape-changing agent/child, was either relatively modern (70's-80's), recent historical (early 20th century) or steampunk. That's still pretty broad, but it's basically in the genre where seeing a large steam-powered train in a large railway station works. I'm pretty sure the initial setting wasn't steampunk, although it may have included elements of it as things got weirder as you progressed. It's also possible I'm mis-remembering sci-fi as steampunk and the train was perfectly appropriate to the setting. The world was earth-like if not actually Earth, though.
Edit 2: After looking at the list of First Person Adventures on Wikipedia, I can add the following thoughts: It wasn't full-motion or motion-capture. I think all the animations were quicktime movies, affecting just a portion of the screen at any time. One that seems to have stuck with me was the creepy kid rotating his head entirely around before floating through a solid door.
I don't remember if there was any dialog, but given that it did have a plot, there probably was some form of it. I highly doubt there was anything extensive, though, and it might have just been all text-based (notes, newspapers, and the like).
